Calling All Book Club Members!

Okay. I found a book I think mught be good for us...Hopefully you didn't read it yet! I will admit, it has a "dog" theme to it about search and rescue. At least that is what I got from reading the preview.

"The Search" by Nora Roberts

Want to go with that????

Works for me!

I thought I had ready every Nora Roberts book out there...somehow this one snuck by.
Works for me, will be ordering it from the library tomorrow.
The library has an available copy, so hopefully it will still be there tomorrow night. If it is, I'm in.
Sounds good. I just got the book, so just let me know when you all want to start :D
I see Kindle has it, which is great for me.

Yay!!! I just got it from iBooks for my iPad. :D Gotta love technology. :high5:

Jenn
Oh Great! I am so excited. I haven't read a book in such a long time, I thought you all read this one already! Sounded interesting to me...dogs, rescue, crazy puppies...Yes, its about Labs but still, doggys live on!

I am ordered it tonight...

I anticipate the first official read won't be until October 1st...unless everyone gets it before then...

Again, the book is "The Search" by Nora Roberts
I've got several books going right now, so won't be reading this one early. Have to clean up my reading list. If I love a book I read it right thru even if it means a couple of long nights. If I don't care for it, I stick it out but it takes forever......I have several in that category...just plowing through.
I'm in. I will try to pick up a copy of it this week.
wait... when did we start a book club? DID we start a book club? Can anyone join? Are all the books dog themed? I'm so lost!

No worries  Last Wednesday "Ashley" presented the idea of starting a book club and a few of us decided to give it a try. Of course anyone can join, the more the merrier    Not sure if we are going to try and stick exclusively to dog themed stories, but the main character in our first book is a dog trainer.

I don't believe that we have a firm start date yet, so you haven't missed anything. Please join us :high5:
i noticed nobody mentioned this book has romance, ladies. 8)

I must confess, I will giggle if I see David reading a Nora Roberts book. Then I will tell all his friends!
I will check my library and see if I can download it. Otherwise I have a friend who has a copy. I will just borrow it from her. Can't wait for us to get started.
Kathie
Yup, works for me tt. I'll pick it up this week
Nancy
DarthSnuggle, anyone can join. We will be starting the read October 1st to allow people to get the book from the library or whatever...

I wasn't anticipating all books having a dog theme, just happen to find this one and though it was perfect for our first book. I didn't know it had romance in it...hope not too mushy! Unless the romance is with the dog!
From her website's description
http://www.noraroberts.com/books/thesearch.html:

"To most people, Fiona Bristow seems to have an idyllic life-a quaint house on an island off Seattle's coast, a thriving dog-training school, and a challenging volunteer job performing canine search and rescues. Not to mention her three intensely loyal Labs. But Fiona got to this point by surviving a nightmare...

Several years ago, Fiona was the only survivor of the Red Scarf serial killer, who shot and killed Fiona's cop fiancé and his K-9 partner.

On Orcas Island, Fiona found the peace and solitude she needed to rebuild her life. But all that changes on the day Simon Doyle barrels up her drive, desperate for her help. He's the reluctant owner of an out-of-control puppy, foisted upon him by his mother. Jaws has eaten through Simon's house, and he's at his wit's end.

To Fiona, Jaws is nothing she can't handle. Simon, however, is another matter. A newcomer to Orcas, he's a rugged and in-tensely private artist, known for the exquisite furniture he creates from wood. Simon never wanted a puppy-and he most definitely doesn't want a woman. Besides, the lanky redhead is not his type. But tell that to his hormones.

As Fiona embarks on training Jaws, and Simon begins to appreciate both dog and trainer, the past tears back into Fiona's life. A copycat killer has emerged out of the shadows, a man whose bloodlust has been channeled by a master with one motive: to reclaim the woman who slipped out of his hands..."

:lmt:
omg, lanky redheads and hormones. :sidestep:
Went to my local small town library...the book isn't part of their collection, but got it requested through the library system!
I've read the book already... but I'm looking foward to everyone's thoughts
Good, you can join into the conversation.
Yes, if you read this book already, you can still join in our discussions. Just don't give the ending away :) I think this will be fun!
I got my book today and I ready to start reading tonight....thought I would get a head start.
I started the Kathy Reich book last night.....I should finish tonight and will probably sneak some chapters in our book.
Got The Search from the library last night (along with a few others) so I'm ready to go! Book is due back October 17.
Just placed a request with my Library :)
Just ordered mine from Amazon....Maybe we should discuss the next book or two so people can reserve at library or order?

Which one are you reading, I'm a couple behind I think. She also has a couple new ones featuring her neice so will read those too.

There are just too many good ones out there, going to be very sad when I can't read any longer.
Flash and Bones

Set in Charlotte with NASCAR backdrop. It wasn't as fast paced or in depth as some of her previous, but fans will still enjoy it. Niece was hardly mentioned.
I have to order that one and also have to read 206 bones.

Virals and seizure are two new books featuring the neice, Tory Brennan, must be a new series.
Sounds good, I'll be starting to read on Sunday. Thanks for getting this organized, I'm looking forward to it.
Reading about Viral.....it's a teenager based series, excuse me, young adult. Hey, something other than vampires!
I didn't read that viral was for young people so will probably forgo that series and stick with the others.

Glad you mentioned these YA books by Kathy Reichs. I have a 13 year old daughter who is always looking for something good to read!! :clappurple: They will make good stocking stuffers for Christmas.
I want to join. I just go a chapters gift card for my birthday. I will get the book. WHen does it have to be read by?
We start Oct 1......you don't have to have begun reading......I assume. I'm not the coordinator so really speaking out of turn.....as usual.
Not that I know what I'm doing, but I was thinking once we all get the book, we'll discuss it as we go along. Maybe a few chapters a week and then get together here to discuss? If you read ahead, no problem. Just give anything away!

Should we start a new topic with the name of the book once we get going so we don't have to go through all these posts to get to the discussion?

Also some books for the future....possibly...

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins ( sort of Sci-Fi but comes highly recommended)
The Christopher Killer ( forensic murder) by I forget!
Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children
No Water for Elephants

Anyone have any suggestions for the future read????
Don't have a lot of suggestions but there is a series of books that I've read and never thought I'd be interested in by Shirley Rousseau Murphy. They are the Joe Grey books about talking cats that solve mysteries. I don't know if anyone else would be interested but do know there are cat lovers here. The latest one that's not in my library yet is "The Cat, the lady and the liar.

Like I said, I never thought I could even get interested but they really held my interest. I learned things about cats I never knew.

Are we going to keep an animal theme or are we going to try all different ones?

Oh and another one I want to read is the Chalk Girl by Carol O'connell. Another series but one I really loved.
Sounds like fun but, I don't do much reading these days.
When I do, I love Stuart Woods!!!
I wasn't thinking of keeping the animal theme. In fact, I was thinking we should "open" the books to different genres - even if its out of your "usual" so we can "expand" our reading...But whatever everyone wants to do is fine with me. I just want to read more books and thought a club where we can discuss the book would help keep me focused...
Count me in too!!!! I'll pick up the book this week!
I have been traveling for a week so am a little behind on forum activity!! Caught up on this section and will get the book and be ready for Oct. 1st! :D :D

I borrowed the book from my sister-in-law and read the first chapter. This book will definitely be out of my usual reading. In fact, this may be the first book that both me and my sister-in-law have both read! (And we both read a lot!)
David, glad to see you have joined us - even with our first sort of "chick" book...maybe the next book will be your choice for being such a sport!
I haven't been around the forum much lately...but now I have the time and ready to read!

thanks for the suggestion,
peg
I got my book today  But boy, I will add, the print is small in the paperbook version

Anyway, we are to start rading October 1st which is this upcoming Sat. Just not sure how many chapters we should read and discuss next week. I figure 100 pages a week is okay? Not sure how many chapters that is...Anyone can help me here :cow:
  Welcome to mature eyes world. It only gets worse.

It's also the main reason I went with an e-reader.......you can adjust the font size!

Might be time to try a pair of dimestore readers.....just for small print books.
Downloaded the book to ibook! All set and ready to go!
Oops I've jumped the lead a bit. I'm halfway through the book already.
And I see I just got a call and VM message from the library...brb

Hoping it's a call my book is in!....... (I'm at work)

YES! My book is in. I can get it Thursday, my next day off :clappurple: :clappurple:

And, for those with Kindles - we are apparently now LIVE in libraries, she left a message also that all the software is there and she has done it w/ her own Kindle. Whoohoo!
  I'm nearly finished. It's ok, I can go back and give a more critical look at the book now.
Late bloomer here. 8) Just went and got the book. Guess you can count me in too.
I haven't even had a chance to get the book yet.
My refrigerator went out and the new one they delivered has 3 dents in the front. i am off to get that taken care of maybe then I can pick up the book. :D :D
I'm picking mine up at the library tomorrow but we will be leaving for my dauther's place on the 30th so don't know how much reading I'll get done during the following wk. Will try to keep up.
I'm in.

Happened to call the library this afternoon and the book had been checked in this morning. Looks to be an easy read. I didn't realize it was going to be a hard cover book.

Especially loved the picture on the back cover. I won't say anymore until the discussions. But I had to say that!
Got the book from a library, I'm currently reading another book but I read fast, a book in a day or two usually.
I'll keep an eye out for when things get started though.
Hoping everyone is well on their way to getting their book! I received mine and after looking through it, I'm thinking....

How about our first discussion here October 8th? I was thinking we should be able to read up to page 145 by then which will bring us to the "Part Two" section...I started reading it and its farily easy to get through. So far...

So, everyone on board to discuss "Part One" here October 8th??? I'll start a new thread before then with the subject line of Book Club - Week 1

Thoughts?????
Sounds good. Thanks for giving us sections or chapters since my e-reader doesn't have page numbers.....and wouldn't they vary from paperback to hard bound as well?
I get mine tomorrow from the library.
I'm a fast reader...usually finish books in a day...or less.
I try to restrict myself, or I get nothing else done!
Got it!

Yes, nice picture on the back cover.

I'm working a 16 hour shift Saturday, so I'll likely read the whole thing....
I'm a fast reader, and will have to entertain myself, as my client will likely be on his computer and reading too....lol
Well, can't wait to hear what's on the back cover. Her picture, yes, which curiously corresponds to her female characters..........but is there more related to the book? Will find out.
It's a picture of the author with her two labs on the back cover.
Hopefully everyone got their book. For anyone not familiar with what we are doing and still wants to join us...We are reading for our first book, "The Search" by Nora Roberts. The plan is to start reading this weekend. Next week we will discuss up to Part Two - which in the paperbook edition is about 154 pages. If you read ahead, that's okay too just don't give anything away!

I will make a new topic line during the week for our discussion. I think this will be fun to get everyone's take on one book and will help us stay focused on our reading - something I tend not to do enough of lately!

Enjoy Part One!

Sorry, Sheepie Boss, I wasn't sure if I should say more than what I said, not sure of book club etiquette. Just couldn't contain myself when I saw dog pictures. I know, :cow: I'm a fanatic.
I finally got my book. I hope to start reading it tomorrow,
I started reading it yesterday, half way through it now. I'm loving it so far :) When are we going to start discussing it? I guess we should wait til everyone has it and has started reading it? Or just put a spoiler notification in the thread so that if anyone doesn't want to know what's happening in a given number of chapters they won't click the thread.....
It is proving to be very amusing to watch David read this book. I am pretty sure that it is the first romantic book he has ever read. I can tell when he gets to the romantic parts by how red his face gets. He asked me now on earth he was supposed to talk about THOSE parts of the book with the nice sheepie forum ladies.
I'm a little slow, I just downloaded it on my Kindle. Now off the the bathroom, er, library to read.

lmao that's cute....
^^^^ I bet, that will be interesting.... :D

I knew if I took it to work I'd get sucked in...yep, finished the entire book today
Read up to the Part one marker and never looked back!

Guess I'll have to re-read to see what is legal to talk about! 8O
We'll give David the heads up if we start to discuss the sexy parts! Ha ha...I am reading ahead also and will probably finish this weekend. But no giving anything away. Let's try to keep on track with the discussion starting the end of the week to just "Part One for the sake of the others...I might add, so far I am enjoying the book!
I finished it this morning and loved it....

Yep, downloaded it last night and had to force myself to stop...ok I stopped a little further. If I like a book, I get sucked in and like Dawn...get nothing done.
