What are you listening to?

What's everyone been listening to lately?

I've been listening to Kay Hanley's latest stuff.
Kay was the lead singer for the '90s alt rock band Letters To Cleo. They had one big hit back in '94, Here And Now.
LTC broke up back in 2000 and Kay went on to a solo career.
She was the singing voice of a cartoon girl in an early 2000s cartoon (Molly O from Generation O). She was the singing voice of Josie in the early 2000s movie Josie and the Pussycats. She has released 3 solo albums over the last 9 years and is now in a band called Palmdale.

If you like the girl fronted, alt rock sound from the '90s, you'll love Kay.
Very hooky, very catchy.

Check her out.

Laugh all you want, I've been listening mostly to kids movies music lately. I love the original soundtracks of Tangled, How To Train Your Dragon, Kung-Fu Panda, Tarzan, etc.

Also, my all-time faves Sting, Earth, Wind & Fire, Native American music, and the Classics.
Rockin' out to Springsteen here in the heartland! Darkness on the Edge of Town, Lucky Town, and Born to Run have been in heavy rotation lately. :D

My own private tribute to the Big Man, Clarence Clemons.

Laurie and Oscar
I love classic rock. I used to roadie for a sixties cover band who nailed all my favs. Yeah that job ruled. I got paid to sit on stage and listen to four friends play my favorite songs, (oh and we only played places where the band a crew got free drinks!!!)! Down side to this is after three years of sitting next to a big guitar amp, my hearing took a hit on the left side. A small price to pay in my opinion. So on that list is everything from The Who, to the Beatles, from Lovin Spoonfuls to Credence.

But what I listen to more than anything it a mix of surf music and rockabilly. Surf ranges from local band like the Space Cossacks to the standard great like Dick Dale and the Ventures. On the rockabilly side I stick to old stuff like Link Wray, and the Reverend Horton Heat. And you can't claim to like rockabilly and not dig Brian Setzer.

One band I stumbled across is one with Billy Bob Thorton singing lead. His band is called The Boxmasters. These guys are more old school country than normal but their lyrics are a hoot.

I am also a huge Springfield fan.

I can't remember where I heard about it but I found a youtube of Johnny Cash singing U2's One. My parents, or at least my dad, loved Johnny Cash when I was a kid and he was one of the few country western artists I liked, but to tell the truth, I hadn't given him much thought in years, aside from enjoying Walk the Line biopic. Anyway, that song triggered a minor obsession with Cash and his later music.

Also have been indulging in The Pretenders, and Gordon Lightfoot lately.
We've been listening to Schubert ALOT!!!!
Love all the songs from the 60's.
On my ipod right now (I only included artists with multiple songs) are:
Avenged Sevenfold
Bloodsimple
Eisbrecher
Flogging Molly
Megedeth
Metalica
Nine inch nails
Pantera
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Rise Against
Saliva
Saving Abel
Seether
Toadies
Van Halen
Velvet Revolver
Weezer
Wolfmother
This stuff is mostly pretty old - I need some new stuff!

Shellie
Whitesnake. They have a new CD out called Forevermore. I love David Coverdale's voice!
Iron Maiden- my favourite band :hearts: :hearts: I'm still hyper from seeing them on tour here in the UK three times- my first ever Maiden gigs. I won tickets to go right to the barrier on two of the nights :D :D :D
There's nothing on my iPod newer than the mid-80s. This morning on my 9 mile drive to work I listened to The Beatles and ELO. The only times I listen to music is while driving or on the treadmill. Never have it on when I'm puttering in the house. Weird.
Even if you have not been a Glen Campbell fan, you must check out his latest and last album Ghost in the Canvas. He is 75 and has Alzheimers and is on his last tour. The CD is achingly beautiful. He still plays with virtuosity and his voice will break your heart.

So if you want to experience some new music, this is it!
Joe Bonamassa :hearts:
Funny you should ask, but my 2nd burst of uncontained excitement (see my Introduction from my earlier post tonight) is I got a cruise for my 40th birthday!! :go: Not just any ol' cruise...but a "music" cruise! 4 nights of music, 10 or so bands, 50 shows....but most exciting is Michael Franti!! I saw him for the first time in May at a festival down here on the beach and I was hooked!!!

Check it out at

The funnier thing is when I "opened" my surprise...I was overjoyed and then immediately I panicked and said "wait...we are still getting the puppy...right?" (as I spent the first 1/2 of the party showing off the website and mom/dad and all of the breeders beautiful dogs). But, as it turns out...yep....I get both!! woo hooo
Unfortunately, it means I probably won't get to travel up north to meet my breeder in person (I don't know the rules of divulging names of breeders who are members, so I am not doing that yet :D )....but I have learned lately...never say never.

So...long story short...I am listening to Michael Franti, G Love & special sauce, Widespread Panic, and lots and lots of Glee music (I have a 14yr old daughter...so I cannot escape the Glee soundtracks!! lol )
Um, I will pick up your puppy for you! Sure, I will pick him/her up and bring him/her to my house, I mean, I will deliver him to your door. I promise! :crossed: :sidestep:
It is really odd--but I have been on a Motown binge lately!! Been awhile since I really listened to this music but have really enjoyed it lately. Guess it brings back some really good memories! :D :D

Typically I listen to a real variety --jazz--blues- rock-lots of Jack Johnson and Van Morrison in the summer. I think I find myself choosing music that I think goes with the season--LOL! Not really sure it makes sense to anyone else!
I'm a rocker, new, old, classic.... anything. Currently in my CD in car, Foo Fighers "Wasting Light". Don't laugh, I don't have an Ipod. Don't need one.
My favorite concerts I've been to; AC/DC (2), Motley Crue, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Tom Petty (3), John Mellencamp (2), Aerosmith (Las Vegas) just to name few that come to the top of my mind.
I'm always flippin channels on the radio in car, love to get a good tune on my way to work.
