Chewie's haircut

It was time for a major trim before carting and sledding season. He was getting pretty hairy, thick and hot. :?

Here he is "before" - on this past Saturday:

I tried to get some outdoor pictures, but it was too dark after work.

I bribed him with some chips in the kitchen...

As you can see, I still need to even him up a bit. This is after the initial trim, then a bath. I had hoped to retrim tonight, but I had to make an emergency dog run for my friend Mary's dogs - they are gone on vacation.
So I had to make do with these pictures....but he really needs the chest and head neatened up. :?

I should be able to fix him tomorrow night!

I know it's for a purpose but I still like them with more hair! :D
Chewie is still a handsome guy though! :hearts:

Cindy
chewie is cute no matter what length!! I like a puppy cut myself its easier and you can see the lines of the dog But I like puppies (under a year) to be fuzzy.
Mady still thinks he's a handsome devil! :hearts:

Wouldn't he get cold with winter on its way? Seems counter-intuitive to trim him down at the end of summer. :lmt:
Oh, I like more hair too. :D
But I hate seeing my hot boy miserable doing sports and just in life, just for the sake of hair.....so compromises must be made 8)

I'll like it better in another month...it should work out well - that the temperature drops proportionately with the rate of hair regrowth!! :high5:

Now that the temps drop, we can start carting. 2-5-8 mile runs - depending on how many dogs we have in the team. He gets very warm, plus the hair mats like a nightmare in the harness d/t friction on those long runs. Weight pull isn't an issue, as it's so short time and just walking speed. But once we start logging miles, this is the best.
He has a high metabolism - he still searches out the coolest spots and avoids carpet, furniture and dog beds. Lives to lay on the cement or tile, or wood in a pinch.
Before the cut, I could see his energy and motivation just dropping as the hair was getting longer, thicker and warmer.... :( :(
All good reasons to clip your athlete shorter. He's handsome no matter what length he's in. :aww:

I've noticed here that longer hair saps energy too. Hmm... maybe I should purposely keep a few in longer
coats? 8) They also tend to have a wetter face from panting and drinking more. It's most noticeable in
Kobuck due to his dense coat. He's such a busy boy, always where the action is, so I keep his body hair
short all the time... and his head big.
Chewie is always so cute no matter what his hair is doing.
Chewie looks adorable!!
Chewie looks great!

I am fond of the year-round puppy clip. Though it gets quite cold here north of Chicago, Oscar is always warm. Our house is kept at a balmy 68 degrees in winter, going down to 64 degrees at night. I run around in sweat pants and Oscar is panting. Quincy was the same way. They both sought out the absolute coolest place to sleep, even in the dead of winter.

Laurie and Oscar
Hairdoos should suit life styles, and haidoos shouldnt hurt!
Lets be right even shortish, sheepies have a fair coat and will still be better than most breeds in the cold (unless its a #10)
If it what has to be done for the dog to love its sports, its got to be better than hours of dematting.
Is there and pulling comps in the uk?
Billy would be ace as it his undisputed at tug of war lol and can even drag a 16 stone human off a chair and across the carpeted floor!
Nice haircut x
Karen, I'm pretty sure there are WP's in the UK.....

There is a group called United Pulling Federation - they have pull events in the US and UK:
Season runs November 1 – September 30 and have events in the US and UK.

ooooooooh Chewie looks very cool and groovy~
Do the wiggle dance babe
Look at him showing off his muscles in his fancy new haircut! The other boy dogs must be jealous of how buff Chewie is!
His haircut looks very handsome ....... but.......something seems a little off about the picture of this BOY dog.......... :lmt: .........

Could it be? :twitch:

OMG.... it is! 8O

He is wearing "piggies" with bows!!!!!!

Otherwise I would say he is very handsome.
I'll have you know those are MANLY bows!

They are blue, have paw prints and spots...and the centers are little white SHEEP!

:high5: :high5:
He looks fantastic, Dawn. I wish I could trim mine so well. Maybe I'll give it another try after I start walking again.
:hearts: I'm just totally besotted with Chewie and his 'painted on' nose :hearts:

Those pics are great, I can't wait to see the sledding pics too :D
