Minnesota

I see there is a wildfire in northen MN, we had NW winds during the night and we were getting the smoke and smell from the fires. I woke up and thought someone had a bonfire going or something was burning. Very strong smelling and we may have the same tonight. Had ash in the western part of our state so hope they are able to get it out quickly. Worry about the animals.

Yeah there sure is. Pagami Fire. Good way to follow a fire is in Inciweb.......http://inciweb.org/incident/2534/

Eventually they'll have a tie in with Google Earth as the map they are showing right now is too small to really understand where......for us unfamiliar with upper Minnesota.
Yes, they were evacuating up by Ely. :(

That area is the south side of the beautiful Boundary Waters area.

This is the area in the winter -
We were up there for a weight pull -here's Chewie with his medal:

And then we volunteered at the race the next day!

Amazingly beautiful up there....and very, very dry :( :(
We are getting the smell and the haze all the way down here in the Chicago area. All these fires around the country, very sad. Hope it's out soon.

Fires are so scary. Having had a house fire recently, I can only imagine the magnitude of these large fires. I can just suggest to anyone, if you are recommended to evacuate, please go. Take your animals if you can and get the heck out...

My prayers are going out to those in these areas...God Bless...Be safe...Praying for the animals safety as well...
When I got up this morning I thought someone was burning a bonfire...or leaves. It looked kinda hazy out there too. I even checked to make sure the neighbors house was not on fire.

Dh called a little later and told me its from Minnesota and the wild fires. I didn't think the smell would get this far.

Same here in SE Wisconsin. Could barely stand to be outside this afternoon, and this is how many miles away? Wow... :(

You can tell I'm a transplant: I've never been up to the arrow head or boundary waters during winter. Earliest has been April (chunks of ice in Lake Superior); latest: late September. I know I am not really tough enough to make it through a winter up there, but every time we go up, I keep trying to think of ways to be able to afford to live up there permanently. Or 6 months there, 6 months in the cities, if my fantasies involve a really big lottery win. It's a beautiful, beautiful place, and fills my heart with such peace every time we go up.

We were up on the Gunflint trail in early May, before most leaves were out. You could still see scars from previous fires a few years ago. But still so starkly beautiful. It feels as though there is no time up there. Only a change in seasons.

Down in the SE corner of MN, we aren't getting any of the haze or fire, and haven't even read much about it in the papers. Hoping it is out soon, and that everyone is out of harms way.

Honestly, if you ever want a quiet, laid back vacation, away from the world, there is no place like northern Minnesota. I am partial to the north shore, myself and Ely, but it's all beautiful.
Wow that fire grew! One good thing it seems to be staying low, creeping and burning underbrush. That is actually good, clearing it out so larger, or crown fires, can occur. May snow come early up there and squash this fire.

In fact they are predicting another La Nina winter, more moisture up north.......hopefully including far upper midwest......and little again down here. Poor Texas.
That smoke plume on satellite was pretty interesting - stayed so focused and intense. :?

I bet being downwind was pretty nasty. :(

We are more dry here than normal - no measurable rain for 4 weeks now. My pasture is toast...having to hay the animals already :( :(
4 or 5 years ago there were big fires in Florida, and I recall walking outside one morning and seeing our neighborhood covered in what I thought was a fog, but one sniff told you it was smoke! WE couldn't believe that it travelled from that far away to Atlanta, Georgia. We had air quality warnings for a while; be careful up there you guys!!!
Remember you were getting the smoke and stink from the huge Arizona fire way up to Dawn (in so. Minn.) and beyond. Wind will carry it great distances. It does give pretty sunsets and sunrises.
