Strange Behavior (growling)

Hi, everyone!
It's been a long time since I have posted!
There's so much going on!
Now I don't just only have a big handful dog! I have a parakeet and just got my very own horse!! :D
I'll try to post pictures later :-)
Anyway, Aska just turned two!!! At September 1st!
And she's getting all hairier and fluffier , and is still the kind and loving little girl!
But recently she has been kind of strange and just weird!
She doesn't like other dogs AT ALL!
She only plays with one dog but he doesn't like to play with her!
She doesn't mind another dog sitting next to her , but if they try to come near her or smell her she'll growl and sometimes barks at them.
It's been like 4 months or longer since her last period (don't know what it's called in english for dogs :S ) .
And our garden is open to our neighbors and they have a dog and always in the morning Aska used to run out and play with him but now she just ignores him! :(
It's so sad, he's so excited to play with her and he's always barking and calling her, but she just lays down and is kinda irritating him!

So, if anyone has had the same experience or knows why she's acting this way, please tell! :D
I think that it could be that she just doesn't have the energy to play or is just getting older and doesn't have this play need in her anymore :/ ?

thanks in advance :wag:

Did she have a routine before? Has anything changed in that routine?
No, we don't have a routine.
Only when she eats, she always eats around 8 pm. Thats the only routine I guess :?

Please everyone... tell me what you think about this :)
Thank you !
It sounds like she is growing up and being a bit "bitchy" about other dogs in her space. As a pup they are so much more ignorant and tolerant...as dogs age they are less accepting of some things. Some dogs have a bigger personal "bubble" around them than others.
She's likely just telling them "get out of my face" or the ever popular "quit sniffing my butt!".
And as an adult, her play drive may just be a lot less now.

Watch the behavior of the dog approaching her - are they respectful, or are they just pushy and not paying attention to her?

An excellent article for you: http://www.nesr.info/images-english-she ... say-hi.pdf

It should be required reading for every dog owner. I use it as a handout in my classes.
That article was revolutionary for me, Dawn. I recommend it often.
Very interesting article and I will try very hard to remember this if we're ever in the situation or if Butchy does this to another dog. So far, so good.
You may want to have her thyroid checked. Less energy and sudden intolerance of other dogs are rather classic signs in this breed.

Or she could just be bitchy

Great article Dawn...thank you for the "heads up." I agree, all new puppy/dog owners really need to read it. :wag:
Thank you Dawn!
That article helped ALOT!
This is like she telling me about Aska :)
Now I understand why she does this... she doesn't do this to all dogs, so thank you !!

The dogs she growls at are pushy or trying to play and licking her or something like that, and most of them are pups..
so this makes a total sense in the article!

I will for sure post this on facebook !
This is something I think every dog owner should read!

My guess is that not nearly all dog trainers know this.. many people I know throw theyr dogs to the ground if they simply growl... I don't like seeing that and the poor dog probably has no idea why hes being punished for protecting him self...
