Nose work class

I'm starting a Nose Work Class tomorrow with Mattie. I want her to have something to do. She always wants to be included in the things I do with Frankie. She loves to sniff around so hopefully this will be a good fit for us.
It's a class to teach dogs tracking.

I'm update tomorrow.

I know several people doing it and they love it.

Lucky you, it's not offered near me (only over an hour drive away).
Then again, maybe a good thing, or I would of course try and squeeze that in too!
COOL! Good for you! And keep us posted,

Kristine
Excellent!! I'm really looking forward to hearing all about it.
It's hardly offered anywhere here and I'd love to try it, Tiggy spends half her life sniffing out things. I think she'd be really good at it.
Have fun Mattie!

OOOOOOH Sounds like fun!
Schubert can't even track a kibble a foot away from him!!
This sounds like fun! Let us know how it goes!

I don't know if his deafness has anything to do with it, but Oscar has an amazing sense of smell, compared to other dogs I've known. He will wake from a dead sleep, realize that his daddy is home, and go tracking, nose to the ground, through the house looking for him. When he gets to an area in the hallway where there are options, like going up, down, or into the master bedroom, Oscar sniffs in each direction and then makes his move, without even lifting his head. He always picks correctly. It's quite impressive, if I do say so myself. :D

Have funn with Miss Mattie!

Laurie and Oscar, the Furry Bloodhound
We are back from class. Mattie was a good girl, only snarfed at one of the dogs once. Other than that she was pretty relaxed.
Mattie could care less about sniffing anything out.
It didn't matter what kind of food was put in a box for her to find, she would much rather lay on the ground and look cute.
They've decided she could either be a cheer leader, or a model.
Yes I do believe I have a lazy sheepie.

The trainer thinks it's just not for us. She suggested one last class of hers that we can try. Tuesday we are going to try a freestyle dance class. If that doesn't work, then we will just let Mattie do what she likes to do. NOTHING......

There is a little American Bulldog Cocker Spaniel mix in class that's deaf. She is awesome when it comes to tracking. She could find the box with food anywhere. I agree with you Laurie it has to be because they can't hear, they have to rely on there sence of smell even more.

Mattie sounds like Chewie's sister Martha (she's my daughter LeAnne's dog).

The only sport she is interested in is herding. She goes bonkers crazy for it.
Anything else...forget it.
She also is a therapy dog and loves that, but that's apparently not a sport....that is people paying the proper attention to her she deserves. :roses: :roses:
