How many dogs??

Yesterday while driving across town DH asked, "Guess how many dogs have been in our life." I knew he had been checking records after Glacier died but I thought it was just looking at vet bills (one should never add those up!) "I dunno" was my intelliegent response. "We've had 66 dogs in our life." WHAT????? "Between one's we've called family and those who we fostered, it is 66."

I realize to breeders that number is minor, insigificant but to us who are not into showing, breeding, etc it was quite an eye opener. Then I began to wonder how many noses kisses I've given over the years, belly rubs and butt scratches. How many times have I cleaned ears, clipped nails, scrapped teeth, and tended dingle berries or worse. How much dog hair have I brushed out or clipped out? (lets not talk dog poop) I've wondered how many times I've been bitten......and only once..........Jack.....only because I pushed him too far.

Thankfully he didn't ask me to name all the dogs. Family dogs, yes, I can do that in order, but not the fosters.

I don't know if we'll get more dogs after these three go, if not, it's been a delightful time.

That is quite an accomplishment and think you're probably like me, cannot imagine not having a dog in my life. Sure there will be a time when that happens but sure hope not. Figure with Butchy being so young yet we might not have to experience it either.

Not sure yet if we'll get another dog since Tripper is gone but it would have to be older and a rescue of some sort. Would love another sheepie.

That's a delightful number, Susan!! :clappurple:
(But thank goodness you didn't have them all at once.)

Thank you both for opening up your hearts and home to all those dogs.
I'm sure many wouldn't have had a chance without you.
Jim said, "God bless her." when I told him. :aww:
Thank you Jaci.....coming from you and sheepdog central!! Gee Ron, picturize it that way, that is a lot of dog poop! That's what we call this place, Dog Poop Acres. (of course we pick it up and bury it)
:cow: :cow: :cow:
Thank you for opening your home to so many in need! :)

I don't think I will count right now
You are still active......so the number would be impressive!! We haven't had a rescue in....well, since Jack. That's 8 (?) years ago.

I haven't check DH's figures to determine how many were OES and Great Pyrs.. and those several "other" breeds. It isn't important. Just remembering all those big black noses and eyes going from fear to trust.

dang I love dogs!
Congratulations to two wonderful people :clappurple: :clappurple:

WOW but I cant see you without a doggie baby to love, I always thought for myself when I am old and feeble, a small breed to love

Eh....NOT 8O :twitch:

If I count my first dog ever from when I was a child, and throw in fosters, along with dogs I have actually owned and/or bred, or who have just lived with me, I don't think I hit a third of that and even most breeders these days would have to work for some time to hit that lifetime number.

That's a lot of dogs by any standard. Wow.

Just be grateful hubby didn't multiply number of dogs with average vet bills per ;-)

Oh my you guys rock. :clappurple: :high5:
6 is my lucky number! Turns out it may be the lucky number of 66 dogs...

Lucky dogs!
66 is a lot...I've never counted, but I fear we would be in that neighborhood as well

I learned from my dad...never to count or add up animal expenses. His theory was you have them and it's just part of the family budget to take care of them. :D :D
Just wanna point out that the pyramid had exactly 66 blinking cows.

66! Wow.

I couldn't agree more all rubber noses are worth it, seeing them trust again :hearts:
You made me cry a little

All paws that ran across your heart were very lucky ones :high5:
Bless you both. My dream is to go with family ( which includes my dog ) at my side. :hearts:
8O 8O I've had 1.5 dogs... Mady of course. And the dog my parents rescued through me in a sense. I lived at home a couple of years while they had that dog (a sweet gorgeous unknown mutt with some sheepdog in her named Rosie).

Maybe it's 1.7 dogs if you consider Virginia and Morgan we had for a month. :(

Were most of the dogs sheepies and Great Pyrs Susan?

Yes, mostly OES and GPs. Multiple Siberians (6??? I'd have to think on that) , one St.Bernard, one Newfoundland, one Irish Wolfhound, one tiny thing probably multi mix of hair...Lasa and ??,....the rest OES and Pyrs. Both breeds are like potato chips, they are so compelling, you just can't stop with one....though this one who keeps kicking my cane onto the floor right now will be named MUD in a moment. The only grace is it usually falls on his head!

and if one of them doesn't stop peeing on the mat by the front door, I'll make that 2.7 for you..and a sheepie to boot.

(In all fairness, it might be UTI, I'll give him another chance)
