Gout

Preliminary diagnosis:Gout

My big toe has been giving me some big pain, enough to wake me up at night. This started a few days ago and I at first thought maybe an ingrown toenail. Check it...nope. Just feels like someone took a hammer and slammed it down on my toe

Went limping into work today and was asked why are you limping. Big toe hurts...Do you have gout?

Went to goggle...match up the symtoms but not the causes. Look a little further...it seems that chondroitin can cause gout. I have just started Gulcosamine Chondroitin to see if I can ease some of the aches from jogging.

Diagnosis: Gout

Treatment: Stop taking Glucosamine Chondroitin.

Outlook:Big toe will stop hurting. :D

Hope that fixes it. My dad suffered from gout...bad stuff. :(
Hopefully stopping the chondroitin will stop the gout! That is nasty pain.
Gout. Sigh.

If the pain doesn't go away immediately, you should hop on over to the doctor and get some colchicine. It is VERY expensive right now...

But, it will stop the inflammation (the pain) very quickly.

THE classic question the doctor will likely ask you: "How do you sleep at night? What do you do with the sheets?" Gout is usually so painful that even the touch of the bedsheet is excruciatingly painful.

The root cause of gout is believed to be caused in most cases by high uric acid in the blood. However, the trigger that causes crystals to form in the joints (usually starting with the big toem but can be in any joint) can be any number of things. For instance, taking a diuretic or stopping salt intake can cause a "fluid shift" that can trigger the gout.

Other things to avoid: Liver. Turkey. And I guess chondroitin for you.

Once you've had a flare of gout you are much more likely to have another. :-(

Let me know if you have any questions, I've got experience.
Wayne gets gout. Nasty, comes on very quickly and hurts like hell.
As Ron said colchicine or at a pinch indocid is the next most helpful anti inflammatory for gout. Paracetamol is a big fat waste of time for gout pain.
