Don't tell Amber...

Last night one of our charming houseguests, Virginia, hopped up into bed with us and stayed there the entire night. Mady doesn't sleep in the bed with us, she is one of those dogs who looks for cold tile to sleep on. I know that I should have told Virginia to get off but she was so freaking cute as she quietly and carefully circled around looking for the coziest spot and snuggled in that I figured five minutes couldn't hurt. Then we fell asleep and she stayed there the entire night. Have we ruined her for Amber? Will she go home and start insisting on sleeping with Amber and Steve?

Hey hey hey!!! This (like ALL the original absolute "deal-breaking" rules with Mady) was Kim's fault!! I come in the bedroom after brushing my teeth and Virginia's up on the bed snoozing. It's all Kim!!!
Wow!!!! What loyalty!!!!  poor Kim...get blamed for everything~~~~ :( :( :(

((again))).............BADDDDD...David!!!!!!!!
if there's room and the dogs are clean and well behaved? I'm all for letting dogs sleep on the bed. You know the old saying: Let sleeping dogs lie...in bed!

I just think that you may be responsible for having to buy Amber and Steve a bigger bed.
All I can say is Good Luck to Virginia if she thinks she will even "fit" in our bed. Lately Steve & I have had very frequent middle-of-the-night visitors - namely one Samantha, Megan & Brandon. And as I am sure you can imagine, when three children crawl into bed with you they do NOT sleep straight! I awake to a foot in my face, head on my legs! You get the idea. So Virginia, as far as I am concerned, you are more than welcome to take my place in my bed and I will gladly sleep on your doggy bed. I am sure I will get a much better sleep :)
Amber- do you have a good doggie bed? I got the ones from Orvis with the tempurpedic mattresses. People thought I was spoiling the dogs. Little do they know that I have napped in those same dog beds a few times. Its worth investing in something nice, so that you can use it yourself!!!
This scene sounds all too familiar....even the human kids years ago...sigh....
Somehow everybody fit.

I have tried the last few nights to chase Virginia off of the bed. She obediently hops off, then walks around the foot of the bed and hops back on the other side. Last night I was proud of myself as I made her stay off, but David says that when he came to bed, she was curled up at my feet. I know that she was there when I woke up this morning. I feel kind of bad-Amber lets us have her dogs for some summer sheepie fun and we ruin them! Although Morgan has shown no interest in sleeping in our bed and neither has Mady. So we have only ruined one sheepie.
Yeah, I'm in bed, I'm comfortable, I'm falling asleep. And Kim is whining "get Virginia down, she's on my side, wah wah wah" So I shuffle a little bit, and say "there, she's down now." Which of course, was a bald-face lie, I had absolutely no interest and nothing to gain from the effort in getting Virginia off the bed, and I know if I get her down, she'll just walk over to the other side of the bed and hop on again. So I go to sleep, I assume Kim goes to sleep reassured in her delusion that Virginia is off the bed, and I get a good night's rest. Virginia was sleeping in her spot in the bed when I woke up this morning, and I assume she was there all night.

I figure, as long as two-thirds of the occupants of the bed are getting a good sleep, there's nothing to complain about (especially when I'm among those 2/3rds). 8)

:lmt: um, don't mention any of this to Kim please.
I won't breathe a word......

Good luck to you David on this one :sidestep:

ROFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, that would have been my approach to the situation as well.

I might not have mentioned it to my 3000 or so closest friends, just so I could keep up the pretense. But, then again, I probably would have  8)

A temperpedic Orvis dog bed 8O 8O 8O Thank you Allison, says Charm, :santa:

Yay Virginia, rest well!!!!
I need to buy a new bed. Of my very own. How the heck can one sheepie take up so much room on the bed? How is it that Virginia does not shove Amber or Steve out of their bed, since she is not IN their bed,but she manages to make it so that I barely have an edge to sleep on? And those of you who met me at Sheepiepalooza know that I need more than just an edge to sleep on. I have somehow communicated to this girl that she is in charge. But when she looks at me with those big brown eyes, I am powerless. Morgan just looks at me from the sidelines and shakes her head in disgust at how pathetic I am. Mady just goes to her usual sleeping spot on the tiled floor. David just laughs...
Ryleigh sleeps with us. It funny how I will sleep in a ball or with no covers because I want to make sure Ryleigh is comfy cozy and happy. :lmt: and we have a king size bed. :twitch:

Ack! I was hoping that a king sized bed was the answer!
it depends on where she wants to sleep. If she stays in the middle all is fine. We all 3 have room, but sometimes she wants to sleep where my legs are suppose to go so I'll sleep in a ball so she has room. oh and you have to get the covers where you want them BEFORE she lays down. Once shes asleep there is no moving her. :phew:

Extra blankets/sheets at the ready is the solution to this problem. Then you can grab it and cover up to avoid frostbite :D

I share a king size bed with Izzie. She usually lets me have a whole 1/4 of it to myself. I will "be mean" and make her move over if she tries to sleep too far onto my side. I feel bad for about a second, and then remember that I am just asking her to move over to her side of the KING BED that she gets to sleep on. :cow:

She looks like SHE owns the bed and that you should feel fortunate to get even a quarter of it!
More complaining from a certain person this morning... "she's pushing me off the bed!" wah wah wah. I don't buy it, because Virginia just takes a sliver of room, all tucked up alongside me.

We actually bought a new bed, a king size, it's being delivered Friday. It will be worth every penny if it stops the whining that's disturbing mine and Virginia's sleep!
ruh-roh,
does it come with divider panels just in case? :sidestep:

OMG! You two are a stitch!

Sybil lets me sleep on my queen sized bed. Most nights. One night when I got pushed out and was too tired to fight back I rolled over onto the luxury dog bed I bought for Belle (which she doesn't sleep on, because she's too busy sleeping on my bed.) I talked Maddie (who will sleep on it) into letting me share it with her. She agreed, though she was a little put out.

Honestly, I'm not proud of myself for putting up with this kind of tyranny, but most of them are such great snugglers I don't sleep well if they're not there. On hot nights when even Sybil and the rescue dog refuse to sleep on the bed, I've caught myself waking up and mumbling: "hey! Where did everybody go???"

They're usually snuggled on Liz' bed trying to make the most of her fan. Fickle critters.

I like that I know where Izzie is if she is on the bed....if I don't know where she is....trouble could be brewing  Since I am used to her being there I find that I wake wondering where she is on the rare occasion she decides to sleep in Melissa's room. :?
ok this is weird i think dreamer and duffy were reading this post while i was out cause for the last 5 nites they both are sleeping with me i woke up in my KING size bed and i had maybe 1/12 of the bed :cow: i need to shut down my computer when i leave !!! thanks guys

I am always amazed at how brave (or daft) you are. Do you think that your forum friends are going to protect you from me? I am pretty certain that they are on my side. I FEED YOU!! You should never anger the person that feeds you!

On another note, I do think that it is a bit annoying that I have been begging for a real bed for years and have been stuck sleeping on a FUTON mattress. I am a gainfully employed woman of a 'certain age' sleeping on a futon! Miss Virginia arrives and it took her only two weeks to persuade you to buy HER a king sized proper bed. And she is NOT EVEN OUR DOG!! Although I am thinking that she Amber will never get her back now that Virginia has her own king sized bed at our house. For the record, she takes up more than a sliver of room and she is, night after night, entirely on my side of the bed. I know that Amber is laughing at us about this. I swear one day I will be top dog in my own home.

Kim that is an admirable goal, but I gave up on that 20 years ago.
Well we're making progress. Last night Mady was watching Virginia all snuggled in bed, and she decided she wanted in as well. Up she came. I had Virginia at the head of the bed stretched out, Mady lying alongside me sleeping with her head resting on my chest, me lying kind of diagonally across the bed and, uh, Kim lying horizontally, grumpily, at the food of the bed... Well, I'm thinking we went from 2/3rds or 66.6% of the occupants of the bed being happy to 3/4 or 75% of the occupants of the bed being happy. 66% to 75%! That's definite improvement! Now if only we could find a spot for Morgan to nuzzle in, we'd be at 4/5--80% occupant happiness!!! 80%, that's like an A-. I'm not a crazy perfectionist, I can live an A- life and be satisfied! :yay: :yay: :yay:
I was soooo mad last night! David and the girls looked the picture of contentment while I was wedged at the foot of my own bed. I am not a tiny, wedgeable sized girl! I would like to know how a 75ish pound dog can suddenly weigh a tonne when I am trying to shoo her off of MY bed? I could not budge her. I even tried my scary angry voice. I am going to start to go to bed with cookies and toss the cookies onto the floor, maybe that will work. How did this all go so wrong? How can letting a dog on the bed ONE TIME result in me losing my spot on the bed? I think that I know who is to blame.
is this about how it looked?

shhh dont wake the baby...

even when camping Ryleigh wants top bunk with my daughter.

Yes, that is exactly the facial expression. The 'this is MY bed and we both know it' face.
haha I get the butt end facing me most of the time. I guess Im used to it, untill the nights she has gas. :sidestep: :twitch:
