Brick's urinalysis results

Just called the vet.
They got the results back.

Everything looks great.....................except the specific gravity.

The next step is to do bacterial cultures of the urine to see if there's anything bacterial in the pee.
Those results will take a day or 2.

So we keep looking.

I'll start transitioning him back to his regular food tomorrow morning.

Me too!!!!

Huggs to you both!!!!!

Wouldn't it be great if it is "just" a bacterial infection. Unfortunately those can be difficult and dangerous. We got Glacier over the pseudomonas infection..........the meds were not cheap! She now has a discount card in her name at Walgreens pharmacy.
Hope you get some good results back :D

Well, I you got some great news today! :clappurple: I understand the culture for any bacteria in the urine. They will probably want to take it directly from Brick?

As I said, mine came up with bacteria when I brouhgt it yet clean when they took it. Mine is female and it turned out we had to go on a low dose of hormone due to some irregularity in her confirmation back there and weak muscles or something causing bacteria to seep up into the urethea...something like that. Anyway, she is on a very low does of hormone replacement twice a week...doing fine and no problem since.

Hope you find some answers. Sometimes not knowing is the worst part...good luck but great news on the blood work!
Happy for the good news! :clappurple: Keeping positive thoughts coming your way!

*** UPDATE ***

Finally heard back from the vet regarding Brick's urine culture.
They weren't able to grow anything so he tested negative for E. Coli bacteria.

Next they want to do a urine cortisol creatine ratio test to look for hyperadrenal coticisim (sorry if I spelled it wrong, she left me a voice mail and she speaks fast) which I guess is Cushings.

As an alternative they could do additional blood work to determine Cushings but the 1st test is less expensive.

OR they could do a water deprivation test but they'd want to do that in the hospital to monitor his levels.

What sucks is that I didn't get to talk to the vet today. She must've called early when my phone was off and I didn't notice a message was waiting until well after they closed. Now I have to wait until Monday morning to talk to the vet.

For some reason, I'm not too concerned. I don't know why that is. Maybe because his poops and pees are back to normal.
I kinda doubt they'll find anything.
I'm kinda thinking you're right.

Kristine
You can buy urine dipsticks that test for specific gravity along with a bunch of other tests...

I agree, that seems like a good sign.
Sounds good, hope you get some good news when you are able to speak with the vet tomorrow. Good poops and pees are important.

Good poops, pees, pups and peeps!
Just talked to the vet.
She asked me how his poops & pees were.
I told her that they've returned to normal.

She said we can hold off on the creatinine-cortisol ratio test for now and to re-test his pee in a week to 2 weeks.

At this point, she thinks it may have been viral and if not that, then just a strange blip on his health history.

I'll take another pee sample in next week and we'll see what that gives us for specific gravity.
Great news! :clappurple:

Cindy
That sounds like a good plan...and your vet seems like a good Vet! Not testing over and over unles necessary! Glad poops and pees are back to normal... :yay: :yay:
Please give brick a big hug and kiss!
So glad to hear that Brick is back to normal. Sounds like your vet is alot like mine. Doesn't like to do unnecessary testing, but always lays everything out for me so that I can decide.

The viral theory gets my vote!!!!
