Brick can be so puzzling

Brick was whining a bit this morning around 6 AM (he woke me up).
I take him outside thinking he has to potty but he begins to try to eat the grass. I pull him away and he keeps trying to get to the grass.
I take him off the lawn and try to get him to pee on the retaining wall (which he does sometimes), but he was trying to get at the grass between the sidewalk cracks.
I finally brought him in with nothing done.
Went back to bed.

He wakes me back up at 8 for the same thing.
Take him outside and he's lunging for the grass. I keep him from eating it and finally get him calmed down a bit.
Being that it's morning and quiet, I can hear his stomach rumbling every so often. I put my hand on it and sure enough I can feel it rumbling.

So I ask him if he's just hungry. We go back inside and I fix him his breakfast, which he scarfed right down.
A few minutes after he finished we went outside and he had a nice pee, without trying to eat the grass.

I said to him,"Brick, if you're hungry, why don't you just do what you've always done when you're hungry? Bark at me while leading me to your bowl, and sometimes mouthing my wrist. What's with the desire to eat grass?"

So about after an hour after he ate, I took him for a walk where he peed a little more and pooped a little.
While the poop isn't like it normally is, it's been kinda consistent over the past few days.

I'm wondering if I should start transitioning him back to his regular food (plus I'm getting tired of cooking for him :) ).

Welcome to my world. MO is a grass eater. She has a tender tummy and when it is bad, she will wake me up at night. I let her out knowing she is heading for the grass. I go back to bed. An hour or so later she is back, mouth fresh with vomit. She goes back to bed. Hopefully just one trip per night. Another might be just another vomit time. (and hopefully she can wake me before she pukes in the house) I can hear her tummy rumbles from several feet away so can tell: pee or vomit trip.

Throughout the day she will grab a mouthful, maybe just out of habit. Woe be to her during winter when there's no grass.

Since the vet couldn't find anyreason for all, she recommended Pepic AC day and night. That has helped........not perfect but most night calls now are just a quick pee and back in. Of course since Brick is under vet care right now, I'd only ask about the Pepic, not start it first. There is a generic form of Pepic so it isn't too awfully expensive.
I would put him back on his regular food and don't panic if it throws things off for a couple days....
my dogs have always eaten grass, these 2 will also eat anything green. I put it down to the tortoise eating weeds and they just dont like sharing... :cow: I was always told to let them eat grass if they want to..
My other sheepdogs were also grass eaters but this one not only likes it, she uses it to barf.
