wanting to adopt a young OES

Hello everyone. I am looking to adopt a younger OES. I currently have a 7-8 yr old male, who was a rescue. He recently lost his best friend to lymphoma. Anything from 3 months to 2 years would be perfect. I live in Waukesha WI and would be willing to travel to pick up. I have had 3 rescues in the past, and am open to another rescue or a young pet that someone is looking to re-home. Thank you for any help you can provide.

Hi.

You may want to start by contacting your local rescues.
See http://www.oldenglishsheepdogclubofamer ... ntral.html for contact information.

You could give Joan, the head of WI rescue a call to see if Moose is still available (he's 2 1/2) The SE WI OES club does rescue in this area. Joan's in Franksville and Moose is being fostered pretty locally to you as well - unless he's been placed and no one told me. I forget to check with Joan at the Waukesha show a couple of weeks ago.

I'd also check with Sally Carr/IL rescue and Nancy of Minnesota rescue. At least for starters. Nancy inevitably has more dogs than either WI or IL. They're usually listed on petfinder.com

As for Moose, last I heard he was being fostered by a Golden person who thought his "upbeat" personality quite wonderful. He may be a bit on the high strung side for an OES, so if you're looking for an easy going couch potato, he's probably not you man, but he is apparently very sweet.

Good luck!

2 1/2 yo unneutered males can still be wild and crazy.....but it's on the down side. In rescue the nuts are gone so the guys regain their brains and become great dogs. Good luck in your search!
As you say, being a rescue, he is neutered, thanks to my vet ;-) But he is who he is, and neither of us expect any significant changes for lack of hormones. He lives with an even younger, intact male OES (show dog) who my vet bred who is nowhere near as high strung. Maturity may slow him down a little, but his basic temperament is on the "lively", shall we say, side. Better to know that upfront.

Jack came already cut......and had been for some time.....but he was a wild guy too. Great angst in the beginning......like biting me.......but now we are good buds, except he still gets growlie when upset with me.
Thank you for the names and suggestions. I have contacted a few of the breed rescues in the area. If anyone hears of anything though, I am all ears!

I wish you the best of luck and my prayers are with you that you find your perfect Sheepie. OES are puppies until at least their 2nd birthday...Chauncey was more like 3 years old ( they are late bloomer's ) so don't set a specific age for your new family member.
