Tummy problems

Ecco has been having tummy problems on and off for a week now. We have been doing home treatment, e.g., holding food for 24 hours after vomiting and rice + boiled hamburger for dinner. She gets a little better and then sick again.

In the meantime, she is still drinking water and still eating when she is given food. She doesn't seem lethargic, still chases the cat and plays with her sister. :wag:

Ecco is a poo eater. :twitch: Not random poo, just the stuff she finds in the backyard. Because of this, we are diligent about picking up after the dogs immediately. That said, I don't think it's a parasite, since the inevitable passing of said parasite to other critters has not happened. Everyone else is fine.

It all seemed to start around the time when the temps here got high. We don't have central air in the house, but keep the window unit running and fans on. Her coat is not too long, about 2 inches now. I was wondering, though, if this sounds like distress from heat. I am going to clip her down today, with the hope that this will help her feel better.

Has anyone out there experienced there sheepie getting affected by the heat in this way? Anyone have additional suggestions for us?

It's kind of unlikely it's the heat, though a hair cut will probably feel great to her in any event. What kind of tummy problems - i.e. which end(s) is it coming out of and what's the consistency? Is she just vomiting and nothing else? In which case I'd be a little concerned about a possible obstruction.

It's mostly been diarrhea. Yesterday she vomited up her dinner, too. I think I will also try a probiotic along with the haircut.

Poor girl :(
Give the tummy 24 hours to settle, at means NO food. I know, we think they'll starve..and they may even tell us that too. But uprights know better.......no food of any type, just water. If doggie is also vomiting the water, then the vet needs to be contacted. Things can go wrong quickly from dehydration. After 24 hours, time to go back on the rice diet for 3-5 days. If all well, then slowly bring back kibble.

If the nights are cooler, you can try giving her the rice meal at night instead during heat of day.

Also check the rear end frequently. Our hairy friends can get pooped caked back there so nothing comes out or they must really strain.

Pooh eating can be a sign of pancreatitis---during the nonacute stages. The dog is unable to digest food properly they go back and try it again. Probably not that, but good to keep in back of mind.
Probably time to see the vet if it continues but here's info that might help.

Is there any chance she might have eaten something that's caused a partial
obstruction? Corn cob, toy, sock, etc...

Once she's straightened out, ask your vet about using Prozyme. The two
here that were poo-eaters are now reformed because of it 8) You can
order a free sample from the company-

Hoping she'll be feeling better soon.
I think i might try that prozyme. Maybe it will help with the poo eating :clappurple:

I don't think she ate anything that would cause an obstruction. She's not one to eat her toys...that's more her sister's territory. And she NEVER chews, eats, plays with anything that isn't one of her toys.

Well, we've gone 24 hours without food and had the bland food with probiotic for dinner. Keep your fingers crossed...

If she's not feeling better by Monday, I'm going to take her to the vet.
