Hello from Australia!

Hi,

My name is Rochelle, and I live in Sydney, Australia. I came across this fantastic forum today, and I just had to join this great virtual community!! Reading many stories on here, and looking at many pictures, has brought back many beloved memories of my first pet ever...an Old English Sheepdog 'Pegasus the Big Mac' aka 'Sherlock'. My earliest memories of life, my fondest memories, all contain Sherlock. I feel very blessed that a bobtail was at one stage part of my life, and I hope to get another one in the near future.

As I said Sherlock was my first pet, he was 3 yrs old when i was born. He was meant to be a show dog, but he developed a white patch on his rump at 8 months. The breeder then decided to sell 'Pegasus the big Mac' on, luckily for us!! At the age of 9 months he made his appearance at home, absolutely spoilt rotton like my mum and dads first child!

I believe Sherlock had a big impact on my life, and is the reason for me practically owning a zoo my entire life!...(well mum and dad blame Sherlock for starting my interest in animals!) Currently we have Molly, our Border Collie x Lab who just turned 10 yrs old, 7 rescued guinea pigs - Olive, Brambles, Nutsey, Primrose, Penelope, Pixie and Ellie, 3 Eclectus Parrots - Rosie, Charlie and Lola, and finally Zeus our little red siamese fighting fish...

After coming across this forum, I went on a little hunt, and found many old pictures of Sherlock (which I will share with everyone), but after talking with the family, we have decided that a bobtail will be our next dog of choice...you just cant go past their joyful nature, the gentleness, but most of all their massive coat!! Everytime I see an OES, I just want to give it a big cuddle like a teddy bear!!! lol...(bad when Dulux paint ads are on so often here - always showing OES puppies and cute dogs!!)

It was 1993, and I was in Kindergarten when we had to have Sherlock put to sleep, as he had developed a malignant tumour. The tumour started in his ear, which was excised at first, but sadly it was too late and had already spread throughout the rest of him :( He was the most beautiful dog that shaped my life in so many ways. He will be forever missed by my entire family. (Sorry I have made this sad!!...lol)

I have uploaded pics of Sherlock into the gallery, they range from when he was a puppy, right through to his grand old days...hopefully I can dig some more up soon :) In my avatar is Sherlock with my grandad Mac :)

Anyway, I really do look forward to getting to meet everyone on here, and hopefully soon I will rejoin the ranks in currently owning a bobtail :D

Cheers,
Rochelle
P.S...just in case you are wondering, we decided years ago that the next OES will be a male, named Holmes...lol

Sherlock was a beauty. It is a marvelous tribute to him that you are still in love with the OES breed. :hearts:

Welcome Rochelle!
I love looking at old pictures. Your beloved Sherlock looked like quite the character, exactly what most people fall in love with, their character.Thank you for sharing your pictures of Sherlock.
Looking forward to hearing more from you and your soon to be Holmes.
Robin
Thankyou for all the warm messages!! I absolutely love this group!!

I am currently stuck doing some uni work...and at the moment procrastinating!!!! lol...

Robin - yes sherlock had soooo much character! I remember him loving to play around in the creek at the end out our street, getting all wet and dirty (as you can see in some photos)...yet there was NO WAY he would sit on damp grass at dog training every saturday morning!! lol...Molly our current dog is the complete opposite!! lol...

I can also remember Sherlock following my sister and I around the backyard, with his lead in his mouth, as my sister and I walked our toy dogs!! hahaha...we could have taken him for a walk instead!!! lol....

Auntybren - thats great to hear you have family over here, and have been able to experience and see our country :) I absolutely love Sydney Harbour...I was lucky enough to live on the lower north shore, from where I could see the harbour, harbour bridge, opera house, ANZAC bridge and the city. It is wonderful on a summers night, when the city would let off fireworks - most of the time just for the heck of it!! lol...(most of the time it was because a boat came in or something...lol)...but it was always very special to see. We now live about 30 mins out of the city, in the bush, but we have great views of tranquil rivers...much calmer than the city :)

I had better go and finish the essay :(
Thanks again for welcoming me into this wonderful community!
