Kuching Borneo

We are staying in the Kuching city in the province of Sarawak. The hotel is right on the river and we are on the 7th floor giving us the most beautiful views of the new parliament house. I think it is the most magnificent building I've ever seen.

I can't get good photos out the window so I've downloaded off the web.

This is almost the view we have except that we are up higher.

It is absolutely beautiful at night. Photos don't do it justice.

Have to go to the gym now, there's too much great food.

Amazing.....so how does one get a husband to have that job???......
Todd IS unemployed and free to relocate :lmt:
... and they say nurses can get jobs anywhere.

David would love to come manage our farm for a bit too..... :sidestep:
Wow Mim it tis quite breath taking! Thank you for sharing your vaca with us.

Wayne is quality manager at Swinburne University in Melbourne and they have a campus here. He comes over once or twice a year for quality stuff. I didn't usually make it as it was often last minute and I couldn't organise a locum that quickly. So I've only been once before over 3 years ago. I usually stay home and look after the furkids.

There are lots of westerners work here. You better get Todd job hunting. Chewie will NOT like it though. Too hot and humid all year round. There are hardly any dogs here though so if you bring your whole gang you could maybe set up a petting zoo. That would be right up Chewie's alley as long as you had 24/7 air con.

Kuching means cat. There are quite a few cats wandering around. I call them sheepie cats as their back legs are longer than their front so they have a sheepie top line and their tails are naturally short, not bobbed but much shorter than your average cat. There are statues and pictures of cats everywhere. They are Kuchings signature.
Maybe I missed it..but how is Wayne???????

BTW...what a great vaca for you guys, even though he is 'working'......
What a beautiful building. I have to show my geography ignorance--where is Borneo and it is a republic, or does another country "own" it?
The Vice Chancellor here at Swinburne Kuching took Wayne to see his doctor day before yesterday and a penicilling jab and different antibiotics have worked wonders, Wayne even went to work yesterday. He will get things checked out more when we're back home but for now he seems well on the mend so we can continue to the holiday part of the trip for him next week in Saba.

Borneo is above Indonesia almost smack bang on the equator. So it's a lovely 30 odd degrees C every day and humid with the odd shower or thunder storm passing over on many afternoons.

Part of the large island that is Borneo is Malaysia and part is Indonesia. There are quite a few Chinese and Indian people live here so it's an interesting cultural mix. This means there is the most fantastic food here. I think I've put on weight already despite going to the hotel gym every day. The gin and tonics every afternoon aren't helping either. I'm staying off the scales though I'll wait to get the bad news when I'm back home.
That is all so cool!

Kuching the cat....interesting. We have Tipup (the cat) and he rules all...sounds like Borneo would be his kind of place!! 8)
What a fascinating place, Mim. I'm so glad you shared it with us.
:P :P :P 8) 8)

OK stop!!! Love the enviroment and love borneo and the tropics 8)

Now when you go to the orangatan mission if you dont take photos I wont speak to you again, my dream you are living with a visit there :P

for those elsewhere, borneo is most part indonesia and I think and Mim can correct me, Malaysia has a part claim to that island as well.

Mim if you return a "Bronzed Aussie" this early in the season I might have to go and get a "Spray Tan" so I dont look so like death pale winter white skin shade while standing next to you :? 8) .

The Merlot is waiting upon ones return, stop twisting my arm!!!! Geez I had a phone call from your fur kid too :| "Dear Lisa I have my nose out of joint as my mummy is living the high jet set life and did not TAKE ME, paw signed "Miss Tiggy"" the forgotton child !!!!!!!!!!!

Have fun, out to lunch and you corrupting MOI again when you GBH (get back home) :twitch:
Hmm, this is twice that Lisa mentioned being corrupted by Mim. I wonder if it is the other way around? Tiggy would know, I bet. I wish I were in Borneo now so that I could ask Mim myself. I can only imagine that the food is delicious. I am jealous.
^^^^^
Food is delicious.
Twice!!!!! No way much more often. Lisa is a fibber!!! Tiggy will back me on this.
See my post to David re visiting Borneo.

So you're in the Malaysian part of Borneo. Yep, G'n'T's (with lots of ice!) are the perfect choice for the equator, Merlot, dare I say it, would be too much in the heat and humidity. Something with a lot of freshly squeezed juice and rum would work too  . But really Mim, stop all this talk about alcohol, you Aussies and yer' booze!

Do you know Borneo has the oldest rainforest on Earth? I'd absolutely love to go, it is literally, the opposite side of the world from here, you're so lucky to have it in your Neighborhood! And I'm with Lisa, orangutan's would be a priority! I'm a huge huge HUGE primate fan, and orangutan's are the best!

And I would also be willing to visit and take care of "Shangri-La West", a.k.a Dawn's farm, while she visits. No orangutans but it's a pretty cool place too!

(and I'm with KIM, OMG Australian winter  boo-hoo-hoo, have to roll down your sleeves in the morning...   )

No you're right, merlot is not quite the drink of choice for the weather and also as Malaysia is Muslim a bad bottle of wine that would cost $10 in Aus costs about $50 here. I accidently paid $20 for a GLASS of very bad Sav Blanc (so bad it was unrecognisable as Sav Blanc) the other night.

No I didn't know that. But I did know that orangutan are our closest relatives 98% the same dna. I think the 2% is red hair and an opposable big toe. The young ones are soooo cute.
