Winston, Tiffiny, and Rick

My name is Rick and my puppy Winston is having a TPO this Wednesday (8/2/11) on his right hip. He is an 11 month old OES and has become the life of our house. He is a wonderful pup and we want him to have a healthy long life. I have started a little charity to help pay for these surgeries because they will be very expensive. Please check it out, Thanks!

Hello Rick,

I'm sorry that you and Winston are going through all of this, but we don't know you at all here and can't endorse your cause. Is the breeder aware of the problem? Is s/he helping? Does your state have any puppy lemon laws?

People are of course free to support your plee if they like, but oes.org doesn't know who you are or anything about your circumstances -- (and even the x-rays on your site are generic).

Good luck
that is a strange first post......would have thought someone would research OES and hips come here and asked questions about their pups hips and recommendations, suggestions from others who had gone through something similar. Nope just hello and can you send some money. very strange. :lmt:

That's what I thought Gail.

If there is a puppy that needs help, I hope it gets it.
Thank you all for your recommendations, I do appreciate your feedback.
Ron, I understand no one knows us on oes.org which is why I joined yesterday. I had no idea this forum existed until I did a Google search. I do not have a copy of Winston's x-rays as Dr. Claude Gendreau has both our sets when I put the website together.
Gail, thank you and yes I reached out to Sally Carr at OES of America 2 weeks ago. I spoke to her via email and my wife Tiffiny spoke to her over the phone a few times. Tiff also spoke to Jerry (a breeder) that Sally knows in Il for advice.

Winston is having surgery today at Veterinary Specialty Center in Buffalo Grove, IL. with Dr. Gendreau per Sally's recommendation. We also met with Dr. Gendreau last Wednesday for his opinion and he is performing the TPO this afternoon on Winston's right hip.

Our vet is Northwest Animal Hospital in Des Plaines, IL and Dr. Courtney reffered us to his surgeon in Northbrook, Il, A Dr. Scott Averill DVM at Animal Emergency & Referral.

We have contacted the breeder and are hoping to receive some kind of financial support (although she seemed very apprehensive to do so). She did NOT have Winston's parents screened for HD and my wife remembers her mentioning that they were screened. Unfortunatly it is not in our contract. The contract does however say that she would replace the pup for a new one. As many of you can imagine "returning" Winston for another pup is not an option and we have decided to have his HD addressed sooner than later. Not that we would even consider another pup from that breeder.

I have posted Winston's "charity" on facebook and I have a small collection jar at my work. We have some money but it is difficult to come up with $8,000 for both hips to be corrected before he reaches the max recommended age of 15 months.
Thank you for checking out my website, it is very basic and I am sure I probably should elaborate more, I just wanted to share our story with other OES owners.

Great website by the way!

Hi Rick.

So sorry to hear that you are dealing with a hip issue with Winston at such an early age. I thought Dr. Gendreau sounded familiar. Our OES, Oscar, was just at VMS for pancreatitis a couple of weeks ago. His dermatologist, Dr. Karen Kuhl, is there, as well as his internist, Dr. Mimi Noonan.

Thinking of you and Winston today and hoping all goes well.

Laurie and Oscar
Welcome from Texas :D
Hope Winston's surgery went well :phew:
Winston is going on week number 3 after his right hip TPO. He had the stitches removed this past Wednesday and the cone is coming off this weekend. He had his first 7 minute hydro-therapy under water treadmill session Thursday morning and did well. I also plan to build a small balance board to help him transfer weight to his right leg in order to strenghten it aside from his therapy. More to come! :go:
Thank you for all the well wishes!
So glad that Winston is doing so well! Hope he continues to make really good progress!
Winston does not need the left hip TPO!! we confirmed it with 2 surgeons at Veterinary Specialty Center. There is a small pop in the left hip when he pivots a certain way however they believe he will be ok by strengthening the muscles. He is near the end of his underwater treadmill therapy and we are now going for short jogs down our block.
Thanks again everyone for the positive thoughts.

Here he is shaved down to even out the short hair from his surgery

I'm sorry that you guys and your poor dog are going through this but on the other hand maybe more people would donate if it was a paypal to the vet that they can check out instead of straight to you to.
people can easily lie over the internet.
:clappurple: :clappurple: :clappurple:   what great news for all of you
Welcome. He's a gorgeous boy and so glad he's doing well!
