Recommended daily dosage of bully stick?

So, at 4.5 months old, Harriet is working hard to cut her adult teeth. And in the process of doing so, has chewed, in her rare unsupervised moments; a kitchen chair, the coffee table, and the wooden leg of a living room chair, despite there being any number of approved chew things laying about (nylabones, kongs, etc). Apparently, wood is delicious OR I'm raising a black and white beaver...

The one thing she will sit and chew contentedly for prolonged periods of time (so, I can go upstairs and brush my teeth without fear of furniture destruction) are bully sticks. SHE LOVES THEM. I'm just curious, how much is too much? Right now, we've been limited her intake to a couple of 20-30 minute chewing sessions per day, though she would gladly chew them all day every day. Is this too much? Too little? Does it matter?

Just curious!

Awwww :aww: Harriet is so beautiful!!! Sorry to hear about your furniture,.....our Millie also loved to chew on anything, including wood when losing her baby teeth. You could try spraying bitter spray on your furniture.?

As for the bully sticks.....is she eating the whole stick each chewing session?

Harriet quite likes bitter spray. It makes her sneeze and then she proceeds to lick it. She's a strange little animal. We've resigned ourselves to buying new furniture in a couple of years once she's a little more mature.

As for the bully sticks...one will generally last for 3-4 days with a couple of chewing sessions per day, so she's definitely not eating the whole thing in one sitting.
Nothing helpful to say except that first picture is so friggin cute!! :aww: :aww: :aww:

    What a funny girl!!!!!!

I would say that as long as she is still eating all of her dog food (the bully stick is not replacing calories that she should be getting from her food) then the bully sticks are fine. You may want to run it by your vet to be sure.

Millie eats her bully sticks in about 20 minutes flat!!! So she only gets one as a special treat.
What size stick are you using? From the pix, it looks like a 24 incher? Of course, she is a pup so the stick mught just look larger than it is

We rely on bully stick alot in our house. On nights when I'm tired or its raining, they use up alot of energy chewing a bully! Here's what I've learned about bully sticks...

All bully sticks are not the same! Some brands last longer, some brands are smelly, some not, some give my dogs the runs after, some don't. After trying many different brands we like least the ones from Pet Co which are smelly ANd seem to result in an upset tummy the next day...

We do like the 12 inch, Premium from Pet Extras ( on line www.petextras.com). I find they had the best prices and if you buy in bulk - as I do with 2 dogs _ there is a discount.

I also like the red Barn brand which I think last the longest although may be smelly. Bravo and merrick are okay too.

My dogs are not the biggest chewers so a 12 inch lasts over and hour or two and with that I take it away once it gets too small. I don't think it matters if they chew one everynight as long as they are not finishing one every night.

For chewing, you might want to try a Kong. To avoid excess calories, instead of filling it with treats, just put some peanut butter, yogurt, whip cream, apple sauce or something over the two holes with just a small cookie sticking out and freeze it overnight...

Also since she likes the bitter apple taste, try some Vicks rubbed onto the chair legs...No way will she like that 8O
