First night with Caity, or So you want a puppy...

Below is a video I shot EARLY in the morning after Caity went outside for her second trip of the night. This is what we got to listen to for a good 10-20 minutes. After that, it was bliss for another two hours. She would wake up with the same audio track and we'd take we out. And then the fun repeated... Listen about half way into the sound, she starts howling! I've never heard a sheepie howl before. She actually did this last night while we were sitting in the living room. Out of the blue, she just pointed her nose up and started howling. So I howled back at here and we had a howling contest...

This morning we got here up and asked her if she wanted to go potty and she headed for the door! The most recent one, I opened the door and she pranced out the door, down two deck levels to the grass, squatted and squirted all on her own! She's already learning!

She is quite vocal isn't she, had that playing and Butchy was racing back and forth trying to find the puppy.

Sounds like she's getting the potty idea quite well and it's nice weather so that should make it that much easier.
awwwe the sleepless nights. Although I have this feeling that it won't be as bad tonight.
Just the thing Mady's mommy needs to hear!!!!!
I can hear Zoey breathing in the background... "Dad, what is up with this?".. or is that U?!?!?!
OMG!!!!! Her little puppy yips just pull at my heart strings, so sweet. Waking up three or four times a night could get old.......until you see that cutie pie so happy that you got up to let her out. :aww:

Glad she is learning so quickly. :cheer:
The first night is usually a rough one. I put Teddy's crate near my bed where he could see me. The few times he started crying, I shushed him and he stopped right away. The first and second night was near my bed, the third night was in the hallway, but he could still see me and by the fourth night he was in the kitchen crate where he still is. Better luck sleeping tonight!

As soon as I started playing that video, Teddy went running to the window to find the puppy! Then he came over to my laptop and was tilting his head back and forth listening. Very cute!

Caity is very cute! Can't wait for more pictures!

When we got Brick (and my sister's doodle), I put the pups in a box right next to the bed and left my arm in the box.
Kept them mostly quiet.
Owwwww, so heartbreaking. Like Teddy, Charm felt Caity's pain. She began panting and searching for the sweet puppy :hearts:

Our Chloe would howl when she was distressed. Probably Caity was missing her pack. The few times we boarded Chloe, she would howl until they placed another dog in with her, then she felt better and stopped. She had many anxieties though.

Better catch a nap today
:hearts: :hearts: :hearts: You were warned

She is so sweet!

I was so spoiled with Finn, he likes to sleep like his Mommy 8)
Quin would lay against the crate and Finn would sleep all along :hearts:
Hahahaha! Love it!!! :aww: :aww: :aww:

Lily did the same sad howl when we brought her home, the first two nights. She broke my heart so I let her sleep in the bed with me.
We just got our Lolly last night and we went through the exact same thing haha
It was so hard to not give in to her...
:aww: :aww: :aww: :aww: :aww: :aww: :aww: :aww:

..more...please??????? :plead: :plead:
Sounds like you're making progress with the potty. :high5: Listening to the poor sweetie made me want to go pick her up. China was laying under my chair and started to respond right away to the puppy's crys. China has a mothering/nursing personality. Asia was laying under my desk sleeping, and barely moved until near the end of the video. Asia's the youngster here so doesn't seem to be effected. lol

When Asia first came to us, China used to eat her food out of her bowl and always left some back. She would look directly over to Asia and lift her head up and down then walk away. Asia would then go over and finish China's food. I always thoug China was Asia's substatute mother.

I hope you get some sleep tonight.
I didn't listen to the video as I can not bear to hear a sheepie crying  The first night is soo hard...They are freigntened, away from their litter mates in a strange home, with strnage noises, etc...I put both of my dogs when they were pups, in their crates in our room next to my bed. they slept like babies. I took them out, on leash, with me with them, for the first couple of weeks to get them adjusted. it was difficult. But they learned right away. And they also learned when on the leash, its time for potty!

Good luck with your new baby...The sleepless nights will end, don't worry!
Oh trust me, we're not complaining. I just figured this would really stir some emotions with those who have been here...

We knew going into this what to expect. Honestly, I think that she fell asleep as quickly as she did, we're doing ok. Also, Jen and her Motherly instincts of Doom are on full alert, so I'm sure we'll, Caitlyn included, be just fine.

I really dig the howling too. She started howling for the neighbors when they first got to see her today, it was a hoot.

vance,
some people deserve what they get. :wag:
^^ :?

Anyway, I listened again and it is just so sweet but, maybe only if I can choose when to listen.
:P
That poor baby! Everything is so new and scary.

I always put the crate next to my bed and except for one or two times out for potty they never made a peep.
guess vance is too tired to post
I am VERY tired. But never to tired to post.

I just uploaded a bunch of photos to my Photobucket account. Check them out when you can. http://s51.photobucket.com/albums/f359/Hulick/OES/

Hope things are settling down for you all! She is adorable.
So here it is one week after bringing little Caitlyn home & she's finally got the whole 'when you go in the crate at night, it's time to be quiet and go to sleep' figured out. I'm actually laying on the couch now, she's been in her crate for a good 20 minutes w/o a peep. I got banished to the couch on account of the grandkids sleeping over.

We're still dealing with house breaking and we knew this would be what it is, so we're not complaining.

Zoey is dealing very well although I know sometimes Caitlyn can really push Zory's buttons. But Zoey is quick to correct. Only Caitlyn doesn't always get the message. She is learning...

Sounds like things are going great. It is wonderful to be able to raise a puppy with a good older dog to help them learn the ropes. Beautiful pup you have there!
I'm so sorry, but it made me giggle! Tonks and Luna howled the entire car ride from the breeders back to our house- fortunately only about 30 minutes. But they've never done it a single day since.

And having siblings, they never fussed much at night. YES they had to go our every two hours, but they never made the sort of late night racket that comes from being alone for the first time, because they've always had each other. You're a stronger person than I am- I'd have folded and gone to cuddle with Caitlyn!!!

Actually, Jen did buckle. It was either the first night or the second that she brought Caitlyn into our bed. That lasted about 10 minutes as Caitlyn thought it was play time and wouldn't settle down... so back to the crate she went. Within five minutes, she was out.

Last night, when I was sleeping in the same room as Caitlyn, I had all the lights off. Typically, we leave one light on and have since we moved in 13 years ago. Jen and I are convinced this made a difference as evidenced here; I got up just after midnight to let her out and not again until 6:30!!! I do remember waking up to a whimper or two, but it never went anywhere. So, with the lights out is what we're trying tonight. Wish us luck!
