When exactly do the teen age years strike?

Ok
Frankie is 2 years and 3 mos old. He has started to become an absolute holy terror on 4 legs. He sits in the kitchen and barks at me no matter what it is I'm doing. Just now he had his feet up on the gas stove top. He has never been a counter surfer, now at least once a day he has his feet up there. He gets way over zealous with other dogs, so he can't play anymore. When it's time to go outside, he runs around and refuses to go out the door, until you close it and walk away.
And he's mouthy bark bark bark all the time.
I thought the teenage years were earlier, but maybe I was wrong.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance

My thought is he's having delayed onset d/t his chronic pain from his hips. Now he finally can act on stuff!

Chewie was truly the perfect child - he totally skipped that phase.... :sidestep:

I know, my next puppy will be my payback!! 8O
Troy just grabbed Frankies collar to go down the deck stairs and he growled at Troy. I don't know whats up with him. Or what I should do. Could it be health issues?

Macy skipped it too, just like their great aunt Belle. My payback, I figure, is Sybil ;-)

Yes, it could be delayed onset JD. Or it could just be he's maturing into his real personality Gotta love'em. Or take up drinking as a hobby, I suspect.

Tiggy was still like that at 2!

Somewhere around her 3rd birthday (it was gradual) she toned down. She still barks with excitment when visitors come but part of the problem is they don't come often enough so it's a BIG deal. She still chases and barks at any dog that runs, especially the little ones.  So she plays on her own too. With us and her squeakie ball.

But it was only 3ish months ago that I had a panic and started asking DH if he thought she was sick as she'd been so quiet for the whole darn day. After I'd harped on for an hour or two about her being sick DH was sick of me so he went and got Tiggy's lead out of the draw. 8O She wasn't sick!!!!

I'm thinking Dawn might be right and he's only now comfortable enough to act up. Especially the counter surfing his hips would have been too sore for that before. Welcome to the wonderful world of norty sheepies.
Oscar is still in the Terrible Twos. :D And he's seven! 8O

Seriously though, if it were only the barking, I might think you were dealing with Frankie feeling his oats, more behavioral in nature. But based upon the growl at Troy, and Frankie's previous health issues, you may be looking at something medical, or a combo of the two.

When my vet is assessing for pain, he takes his hands and moves them slowly and methodically down the spine (from head to tail), then down each leg, while Oscar is standing. By Oscar's reactions (stops panting, turns to look), he knows if he's hit upon a tender spot. (Other dogs may growl or startle, but Oscar is very low key with his responses.) I know vets are trained to do this, and know what they are looking for, but it might not hurt to try this with Frankie, to see if there's any particular spot that is giving him trouble.

Personally, I try never to grab a dog by the collar, unless there is an emergency. I think it startles them, especially if they only see the hand coming for them out of the corner of their eye, or not at all.

Hope you sort this out quickly.
