Back to Work... NOT!!!

With money being tight after the baby was born I decided to return to work... which is only one to two days a week... Not bad at all and I need the money. So I called my boss and told him my Paid Family Leave runs out on May 6th and I can come back on May 9th. He told me this past Monday he was given his two week notice. That all full time employees were let go. They are now doing a corporate restructure and the postition I had might not even exist anymore. 8O
I did apply for another position yesterday and would be working at home instead.... Maybe having to go out in the field once or twice a month.
Wish me luck!!!!

Wow!!! What a shakeup! I hope everything works out ok! Keepyus updated.

Karen
Yikes! That's quite a shock! 8O Good luck with the new position!! I hope it works out well for you. Please keep us updated!
That sucks. :( But hopefully the job you applied for will be a lot better since you'll be able to stay home.
Work stinks. Stay home if you can!

*Disclaimer* I am having the worst week at work possible so my attitude towards jobs is poor at best!
I hope everything works out for the best for you.... I know the feeling, my work is shutting down on Aug 19th, if not sooner... honestly I'm hoping for sooner...lol.... summer off, hang out by the pool, play with the kids and the dogs.... waaaay better than work. I really can't stand my job though, so I'd be happy if it closed today.
I'm off on vacation this week to do dog show stuff...lol.... it is nice to be here and not there, I'm not looking forward to going back on Monday.
As I recall, don't they have to hold a job for you???
Oh no...I hope everything works out for you!
Thanks Everyone!
Willowsprite that sucks but it sound like your happy about it. At least you can relax and collect unemployment.
Josh, they did hold the job for me but... It was decided on Monday that they were doing the changing the program. So now there are a ton of people out of work. Which really sucks. I work for a company that does outsourcing. I worked indirectly for Hewlett Packard. HP pulled the contract on all full-time employees, now they are working with my company to produce a new coverage model... So as of right now the job I had doesn't exist. They might bring it back, but I will not hold my breath. I wasn't too happy with it because I had to drive 100 miles to my first store. I had 30. The only good thing was my Mom was in that area and could have babysat for Hayley while I worked. If I get the position I applied for... It was for a territory much closer to home and I would be working at home. I will not hold my breath thinking I will get that position either...but it would be nice
Elissa
Stay home with Hayley if you can. I'm self employed and I have to say work does stink sometimes!
No, no unemployment in my situation... as I have been offered a position in another office. I said yes to keep the door open if necessary, but I plan to be home wiht kids through the summer, not only because I enjoy it, but because it is necessary for them... they've dealt with a lot over the years, and I can't trust a sitter to understand that and deal with my two boys appropriately. It also would cost a fortune in daycare. Then, in the fall, I may go back to the new office, or perhaps do something else. I'm still undecided on that, since I so fully dislike my job. LOL
I'll say a prayer for your work at home option, wouldn't that be great :D Start your workday with a cup of cofffee in your bathrobe :D
That does sound nice doesn't it? LOL And to get paid for it is even better! :)
As I leave my house every morning at 5:45 to start work at 6:30 it shoooooooooore do!
Elissa,
I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that the home-based position comes through. If not, are there any other options within your company, or would you have to look elsewhere?

Stacey,
I hope you can stay home with the kids this summer and that all else with your job turns out well. I know how unhappy you've been with your job. Are you still pursuing the self-employed dog stuff ideas?

Chris
Sort of.... I know after the Frazzling experience that I can't do doggie daycare at home. It's too much without a proper set up. I may look into grooming though.... I've also been looking into some computer-based opportunities. I've built a few websites over the last ten years, and I think I am getting better at it, though Ron has come to my rescue with the last set of frustrating website problems....lol... (Thanks Ron! :D ) Anyway, several people have asked me to build sites for them.... so that may be an option as well for something on the side.
I guess I want the best of both worlds, a little money, but also the flexibility to be here for my kids when they need me, and the time to do dog related stuff too.
I have a science degree, so I seriously considered going back to school and further pursuing the medical track, however, at my age, it just seems like a lot of effort and money to put into something that although I would enjoy immensely, would interfere with family life and my goals with my dogs. I used to be so job oriented, I basically lived at work for years, and realized too late what you compromise in the end. I don't want that again. Money means nothing if you are not happy with your life and if aquiring it means your family does without the most important thing of all, stability, and each other. So now I guess I have learned, I don't live to work, I work to live.

Well said!
Good for you, Stacey! You have your priorities right. The website building sounds promising, as does the grooming. Good luck!
Chris
Stacey,
There is always time to go back to school later. My Aunt just got her Master in Psychology and she is in her late 60's.

Update on my situation: I got a call from my company today. It was regarding the job I applied for. I spoke with the Regional Manager and was told they would let me know by Monday.
WISH ME LUCK!!!!

ELissa
GOODLUCK!!! :D
Thanks :D
Cool! I hope it all works out!
Fingers and paws crossed! Good luck!
Chris
Good Luck Elissa!! :D :!:
Good luck Elissa! :)

I found out last week that our company is NOT closing down after all... *sigh* LOL I am kind of disappointed to be honest.....lol.... I was excited about new opportunities. Ah well..... I suppose I will stick with what works for now.... but I am thinking when summer comes (if ever, we've had snow all week and it is just finally warmed up today) I still have to take from the end of June til the beginning of September off, though now I'm not sure how my boss will feel about that. I haven't decided when to talk to him about it. If I talk to him now, it may make things difficult for the next couple of months if he says no. If I wait and talk to him 2 weeks before I need to be off, and he says no, I can then give my two weeks notice and end on a good note. My boss is really great, so I don't think it will be a problem, but you never know.....
Thanks Everyone... Still waiting to hear and it is driving me crazy!! I have no finger nails left...lol

Stacey, I hope they don't give you a problem. Everything will work out the way it should in the end. I'm sure of it

Elissa
Well here we are Wednesday now and I was supposed to know by Monday either way. I guess I didn't get it :(
I hope you're wrong... have you given them a call back? *hugs* waiting sucks.....
Thanks Stacey..
I contacted the HR department today and am awaiting a reply.
:( Maybe tomorrow!!! Waiting is hard!!!
Tasker's Mom ...waiting just down right sucks :( lol
I just really want to hear already.
Elissa, did you hear anything yet? *fingers crossed*

I really hope it all works out for you.

I have good news on my situation, I decided to go ahead and talk with my boss, and told him that because of our family situation right now (my husband being out of town for work and only home about every other week for a day) that I may need the occasional day off here and there (my son got suspended twice this month) and for appointments etc that I might have had hubby's help with if he were here, and he said not to wrry about it.... then when I mentioned needing the summer off to be home with the kids he said "Take all the time you need and come back to us as soon as you can"
I was so happy. I could've kissed him. LOL I just said thank you and went back to work though.... I was amazed how understanding he was, and it has relieved so much pressure for me... a huge weight lifted off my shoulders.
Of course, now I can't wait for summer! LOL
