The weather is insane...

Winnipeg is known for its cold winters, but we also have insanely hot summers. Today, it hit 47 degrees C with the humidex which is the equivalent of 117 degrees in "American." (lol...easier to spell than the long form of degrees F)

Remind me of my sweaty outrage in January when I have the audacity to whine about windchills. And if you're nearby enough, drop in and give me a kick in the @$$. I would love some pretty little snowflakes dancing in the polar wind right about now. :tree:

Grumble grumble drip drip grumble grumble.

WHAT!
117 degrees?!?! I wouldn't have thought that was even possible way up north there. Wow!
Here in Minnesota too...although we are not really that far from each other! 8) 8)

Oh, the joys of being in the center of a large land mass continent....

It's 6pm, 99F and heat index about 110F....thank goodness our humidity is down today - this is the BEST day since last FRIDAY   :cow:
We are having a "cool spell" this week it is only 96-98 with a heat index of 107+! It has been miserable! I am not a fan of summer with the heat and humidity at all--add to that the bugs and weeds...I am a fall and winter girl!

Maybe we should cool off by posting some pictures of the extreme winter weather we all experienced last winter! I was going to change my avatar to a summer version but decided I was cooler when I looked at this one! :D :D
Ohhhh. That's the heat index.

reading comprehension > me
I'd settle for a drop of rain................
Yes that includes the humidity. Without it today it only hit the eqivalent of 100. Why does that not comfort me?
Well, its 11PM and in my little corner of Manitoba it hasn't cooled down at all for the evening - with the humidity it feels like 43 (109 American).

Hate to say this, especially after all the flooding etc we've been thru, but we could use some rain so its a good thing we're under a severe thunderstorm warning tonight.

On the upside, we took the dogs to the lake today and as suspected, our scruffy Duffie didn't really care about the water. Even in this weather he wouldn't go in past his knees.
I'm feeling the same way.... I love winter, I'm like a little kid when it snows, and I don't mind the cold really until it starts feeling like -40 with the windchill.... this heat is killing me though. I hate it.
I'm re thinking my dream to retire to Hawaii, now I'm thinking Alaska would be wayyyy better.
I tip my hat to all of you who can endure heat and humidity. I can do heat......but only dry heat.

I wish you relief.
You're all warmer then we are here in Florida. Our temps are staying around the low to mid 90's. Nice out to me.
NOT looking forward to my energy bill.....

We're supposed to get (severe, of course) thunderstorms early tomorrow morning, bringing relief. Today is supposed to be the worst day yet, but that conflicts with other news that shows temps cooling. Yesterday was less humid but still very, very sauna like. Good for the skin, though. My face feels very dewy and fresh---when it's not dripping sweat.
We're so hot that they have stopped showing the heat index.
105 and 66% humidity - you don't have to be told that it is hot. They do show us how many days in a row that we've been over a 100 so far. Sick.

I had to go to the lakehouse to water the wilting shrubs. Sink holes appeared - cracks in the soil. I tried filling one up with water - stopped after 3 minutes when it never came close to filling.
Ick. We are at 93 so far (1pm), and I'm so glad I'm at work, in the good AC!
My window units just can't keep up. :( They've been running non-stop since Friday (not normal in MN) and only keeping it into the 80's the last few days. The one into the living room is actually out onto our screen porch, so we have a drip catching pail to keep the floor dry...and it fills ( a gallon) in just a few hours! That is a LOT of moisture removal!

Our animals are all doing good so far, lots of fresh water, shade and no activity. :crossed:

We are supposed to get a break here by tomorrow - still upper 80's and into the 90's, but a safer humidity level. I can't wait!
Those just getting this to the east - stay safe and stay cool..as much as possible!
It's terrible here too and we've had rain everyday which is good but it just adds to the misery. Today is the worst I think and of course we had to go grocery shopping and needed to stock up on quite a bit.

Starting tomorrow the low is suppose to start coming thru, luckily were north so maybe it will hit is quickly and then down to the bearabel 80's. Don't need anymore of this at all.

Garden is growing tho.
We just hit 102F. Actual. I refuse to look at the heat index. 8O

OK, I lied. I checked. It's now 103 F, feels like 118F and a dew point of 76%

Agility class just got cancelled. That's a first for heat in my memory. 8O

Not that I can complain. I'm inside in A/C. Critters are home in A/C. I couldn't live like this long term, though. :twitch: :twitch: :twitch:

Movin' east...Yay!!! :cheer: ..... :sidestep: :sidestep:

Classes in Mankato at the KC got cancelled for the week...1st time ever too. The kennel club doesn't have AC, and in a tin warehouse type building. Positively a furnace.

Yeah, my energy bill is going to be sky high. This is the first time EVER that the AC has been on for a whole week, and the first time EVER that I will say "Thank Dog for AC".

I like the warm weather but this is a little extreme even for me.

Kristine, I was pretty sure that even Sue(the die hard) would cancel. Running dogs in this kind of heat is dangerous. I would have bailed.
113 here right now and getting worse :(
I've been a longtime supporter of The Weather Underground website. They seem to have a great history with their accuracy. At 12:30PM, we're looking at 93 degrees with 65% humidity making it a ripe 114 for the heat index. I went out for a bit about 30 minutes ago and it didn't seem that bad and I HATE hot and humid weather.

I spent 2 weeks in India about 10 years ago and was miserable the whole time. It was a constant 90+ with through the roof humidity from dawn to dusk and later. It sucked. It was on of those experiences where I'm glad i did it but will NEVER do it again.
