White on White...Rogers dad question for you

Hello,
I am just wondering if you use white on white at every bath? Can you do that, does it hurt them. I will probably wash my dog once every 2 weeks. I am also wondering what kind of a dryer you use. There are some out there for 200$ and then there are ones that look pretty good for about 50.

Thanks so much!

Lauren

It won't hurt them but like any non bleach whitening product may begin to turn them blue or purple if over used. What I do is use my regular shampoo etc as the main shampoo and while he is lathered up I apply the whitening shampoo in much smaller amounts every bath, this seems to work and so far Roger is not purple. I currently just have a home dryer that I wedge between a chair cushion or whatever will hold it where I want it. I want one of those stand dryers that you can position around. Carl Linden says the Oster professional is his favorite. I would get the best I could afford at the time it usually seems to work better in the long run.
Have fun
Lauren and Roger's Dad,

Okay I have to chime in here. Roger's Dad is certainly correct in saying to wash with the regular shampoo first and then the whitener. However I really think that it is essential to rinse out the regular shampoo first, otherwise you are hindering the efficacy of the whitening shampoo. Once lathered up the shampoo's active ingredients will form a chemical barrier arround the hair and will severely limit any other soaps, detergents etc from getting through to the hair and doing their job. When you rinse the regular shampoo out first that chemical barrier is removed and the next set of cleaners have much better access to the hairs and can do their job. While this will take more time in the bath it will render the whitener far more effective and you will end up using less of it. And we all know that the specialty shampoos such as whiteners are quite expensive. I have nothing against spending whatever is necessary to care of my kids but I'm not going to invite extra expenses for the sake of it.

If you are worried about the whitener being too harsh on the coat monitor it's condition over the course of a few uses and if it is actually getting dry and brittle then use a bit more conditioner on the whites and let it "soak in" a bit longer.
This has been covered fairly well in several thread in the grooming forum, including "White Whites" and "Peroxide On Whites" which are now on page 4 of the grooming forum (no new posts there for several weeks).

Dryers have also been faily well covered under the threads "dog Dryers Any Good" and "Blow Dryer", both now sitting on page 5 of the grooming forum. A number of the threads have also included links to supply stores which have dryers and cover most of the market. Browse through those and you'll get a good idea of what the options are.

As always I am willing to discuss this further online or through PMs.

Thanks and Cheers

Carl
Thanks Carl, logic and science usually are good tools and in this case coupled with experience is probably well heeded. I have done it the way you suggest and it does work well but my back keeps telling me, short cut, short cut, sometimes I listen but in the future will ignore it if possible.
Have fun
Chris
