update Gigi and water therapy

Well finally the vet's office had their water treadmill fixed. I was told it took a long time due to a part that was almost impossilbe to find. The other person who was to come to my house and excercise Gigi could never make it when I could.

So Gigi and I went to the vet on Tuesday afternoon for her exam and therapy. I had been told this was a great vet and I agree now. First their ortho specialist examined Gigi and called the ortho surgeon in Orlando for a conference while viewing her xrays.

Gigi has not shown any signs of pain since we first went to the ortho in Orlando. She took the meds for two weeks and since then no pain.

The dr here (well in Rockeldge) felt she does not need therapy at this time. He did see there are some limitations (she yelped) to her hip in certain movements but no need for therapy yet. Her muscle structure of both legs is great and even. He was impressed with her strength. He stated to me that she can do anything - let her be a dog. Also I am to walk her as I have in the past. YEAH! This will be progress he said, but she is ok now. If there is a pain flare up, she has meds when she needs them. Then rest her at that time.

He did mention that she should loose weight. She is 66 pounds. She looks thin to me. He wants 6 pounds off. That is a lot! For those of you who saw her at Sheepiepolooza, what do you think? She was the smallest one there.

Well I thought this was good news.

With structural issues, thin is what you want. Really thin.

I never really felt over Gigi, so I can't tell for sure. How tall is she?

Chewie is the weight and condition that PT's love (I hear it every time Lora runs her hands over him - she LOVES his condition and says he would be her perfect conditioned dog advertisement :cheer: )
He's 23.5 inches and weighs in between 66-70 pounds. And he has bone, so it's actually a light weight for his build.

Sister Martha is a smaller bitch, she's a bit over 21 inches and usually weighs 52 pounds. And she's a playful couch potato!

They feel to be each carrying the same amount of padding, but one is muscle, the other is fluff....

Although Martha is improving since she has crazy Poppy - the just turned 2 yr old Australian Cattle Dog - to keep in line! :cheer:

And VERY GOOD NEWS about Gigi, BTW!!! :aww: :cheer: :aww: :cheer:
haha duffy was told he is again a fatty at 80# we need to get them together to run around
Carol,
Glad to hear Gigi is doing well.
I didn't feel her over so I'm not sure of her size.

I will say that Zeke is about 23-24 inches at the shoulders and weighs about 57-59 lbs.
So he's small. That's my theory why all the other boys were trying to mount him. They probably thought he was a girl.
Mady is 73 pounds, but she is all muscle. Sheep herding and daily trips to the off-leash dog park where she trains with Kee-va, the Irish Setter, has her nicely muscled. Our vet calls her 'athletic' which kind of cracks me up. All that to say that I think that it is hard to compare Gigi to another dog. I did snuggle her alot and she didn't feel overweight to me, but it seems like your weight wants her to run just the tiniest bit lighter, to make it easier on her joints. I know that losing five pounds makes a difference for me!
I will measure her height. I think she is thin. Matter of fact I was worried she was too thin. I can feel her ribs. I add canidae can food to their candae dye food. The vet said to stop the can food and use pumpkin instead. Anyone ever try that? I can see bogye' s face all orange now! Urghhhhh
