Vacuum purchased pre-dog

Our vacuum was purchased pre-dog and was fine for our all hardwood floors duplex. Chowder is know quote tall and finally calm enough to let us brush her, yet there is hair everywhere. I am in need of a better, pet hair friendlier, vacuum. What does everyone use? Sadly, I can not afford a $500 Dyson.

I bought my Dyson at Big Lots a few years ago for 200.
Works perfect.I do not know if you have a Big Lots near you but it is worth a try to look or call.
we love our Kirby. check CL and see if anyone is selling, then take in to local distributor and have it tuned up. will last for life!
What helps me is to daily run the hand push carpet sweeper about. Just a rolling blade and catch pan, but it is amazing how much dog hair it grabs......and dirt. Cleaning the brush is easy especially if you get the little comb attachment. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_3_11?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=carpet+sweepers+manual&sprefix=carpet+swee

Your old vaccum may be just fine one you eliminate the dog hair cloggers. I did use an Oreck for years, but if I didn't use the carpet sweeper first, the dog hair would grab the brush bar putting stress on the drive belt, snapping it like a twig. I'd go through belts like.....well, lets say I got real good at replacing them quickly.

Hard floors just take a dust pot.......whatever you want there. Furniture is just a clothes brush or even a hand brush with a dust pan...or even a clothing sticky roller. You can go back over with your vacuum attachments.

Now I use a Dyson and a Rainbow I've had for nearly 40 years.

The only problem is the bag which fills up fast with our Lab. good for getting up the pet hair, which they both chase & try to bite it
We have a Sharp. Works great on hardwood and carpet. i can get you a model number tonight.

you can easily get an older model which are also awesome for high $200's (Dyson). to me that's very reasonable if you're wanting one that works the way I believe most imagine in their head they want it too ...keeping in mind how long you use one too. We bought ours in 2005 and it's just now needing to be replaced (hose broke yesterday as a matter of fact but the vacuum part itself still works fine) and I'm not someone who used theirs once in a awhile. This thing got its work out regularly. In any other home, I bet it could last 10 yrs.
Last month we ended purchasing an older Dyson that was refurbished and came with a 2 or 3 year warranty. It is a Dyson ball and was an AMAZING decision. Expensive but picks up all her hair easily.
I always giggle when people answer older posts ...and that's what I just did. Glad to hear you got one and like it!! :)
