I have an announcement. Guess what?

I've decided to go ahead and take the plunge into the show ring with Teddy. My breeder told me several times how nice he is and said to think about it. I did show my first OES for a few years but that was back in 1982! I was in my early twenty's and had a good time doing it.

So apparently I've lost my marbles again and said, okay, we'll give it a go and see how he does.....lol He will be six months old on July 11th so his first show will be a three day show for the weekend of July 15th. I'll have the support of my breeder Karen at that show to get my feet wet again. He'll be competing with his brother so this should be interesting.

I'm already stressing about his coat! :twitch: I started confirmation class last week and am still doing obedience class also. Gee, I don't expect too much from my puppy do I? 8O

I'm excited and nervous and the same time. YIKES! :cow:

I'll keep you all posted next month on how we do. So let's all have a big cheer for Teddy! :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:

Cindy

Good luck and have fun with it!
Robin
Thank you all for the cheers! :yay:

I just went into the spare bedroom and took a picture of my cork board of Sampson's ribbons and show photos. Thought you might like to see the memory wall. Dig my "perm do"....hahaha!

Sampson was born 4-20-80 and died on 3-27-93

Cindy
WOW...I hope you have a spare wall for all of Teddy's Ribbons, trophys and pictures..... :clappurple: :clappurple: :clappurple:

Now, now...

I'll try to find my old list of excuses to breeder why hair is missing... :lmt:

I think some of the highlight's went something like this:

1) Dog was abducted by aliens. For some reason they have a leg coat fetish...? :cow:
2) But everyone shows them stripped!! (so it's not just the neck/shawl and the hair was stripped by brambles dog ran through and not a stripper. What's the problem, lady? )
3) I think the hole in the hair on his flank accentuates his muscle tone?

Dawn and/or I can probably dig up plausible explanations for why it is NOT YOUR FAULT his whites turned green after taking an unplanned dive into an algae filled pond a week before a specialty in the event the panicky whitening efforts fail and other useful emergency tips ;-)

Have great fun with him. Don't worry about the cross-training. Mine are usually doing agility and obedience at the very least while I'm showing them. Keeps them on their toes.

Will we see you at the Wisconsin OES specialty at the end of July? There are puppy sweepstakes.

Kristine
wow you are a pro can't wait to see the pics hoping not the antics section

I like the list! Yes, I left the leather buckle collar on him too long and his neck hair is pretty short! Yikes! And of course as soon as I decided to do this, the other day he bit hair out of an area on his chest above his right leg! Double Yikes! I know he's just a puppy and he will go thru coat changes but he's killing me already.....lol

I checked the schedule for that, it's Friday July 29th correct? I'm off that Friday and can show that day, but I'm working the rest of the weekend. Does everything fall on that day for the specialty? I've been out of this showing thing for awhile so I'll need some help with understanding the premium's again....lol

Cindy
Imagine you are a 'Palooza and everyone is oohing over your little bundle. I'm sure Karen will help with the coat.
I saw Teddy's litter brother 2 weeks ago at our kennel club show. He came along for socializing. If Teddy is 1/2 as cute as his brother....you'll have it "made in the shade!" Have fun with your boy!
Cindy - Waukesha has been having a double show (2 shows) w/ their specialty. So 2 shows on Friday, w/ the option of the regular all breed show classes on Saturday and Sunday. You can get 4 shows in the weekend.
But if you are only free Friday, just enter the 2 shows. They follow one another, so as long as you have him all primped and handsome, might as well do it twice!!

Chewie showed there and won each time - in fact both his majors came there if I remember correctly :D :D

I also showed Simon the basset there in rally - in fact that's where I met Kristine and Gale - we all were in the same rally class. A month later, puppy Chewie came home
Thanks Dawn, good to know!

I just got done cutting grass, now I need to get Teddy brushed out and then we leave for obedience class. Talk with you all later!

Cindy
That is soooooooo exciting!

We will be cheering you on from St. Louis!!!

:cheer: :cheer: Go Teddy Go!!! :cheer: :cheer:
Very exciting news! Enjoy yourself and just let Teddy be his usual charming self.
Thanks for all the support and cheers! :cheer: :crossed:

Teddy is really doing this because he wants to impress his girlfriend Charm. :hearts: :hearts: :hearts:
He has to do something to keep the long distance romance alive. :aww: :aww:
:ghug:
Cindy
What a romantic dude!
Robin
:cheer: :cheer: :cheer: GO TEDDY GO!!! :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:

Teddy is going to look so adorable with all his ribbons!!! Charm won't be able to resist the handsome boy!
Cindy, you have what's called a 'ringer'. Teddy will shine and you won't have to worry about it.

Vance
I think all you guys should take turns judging him. He would have his championship in no time! :hearts: :clappurple:

:ghug:
Cindy
He already does!

Ha! Good idea! :aww:
What Dawn said about Waukesha. Friday really is the most important day. The WI specialty typically draws a really nice group of people, and check with Karen first, but if she's OK with it and you decide to enter and Karen doesn't have a chance to trim him up first, I'll ask Sunny Debelak to check in with you and see what can be done to limit the appearance of any interesting hair growth patterns till you have a chance to really grow him out. Between Dawn and especially myself she has LOTS of experience

More importantly, people locally tend to be nice to newcomers - I probably wouldn't be showing at all if not for local support. It really is a good place to get back into the ring. Just don't be shy. The breed NEEDS people like you. Plus sweeps, especially, is a great way to get a puppy's feet wet in the ring so to speak.

I won't be entered since I'm don't have anything to show in breed at the moment and little girls will almost certainly be in season so no obedience etc either. But I'll be running around helping and free to help show you the ropes and introduce you to people if needed. I'm a firm believer in things need to be fun or why bother doing them, and that means there needs to be a nice social aspect to showing. Hope to see you there.

Kristine
Thanks Kristine, that sounds great! I'll take all the help I can get. Karen said she likes to support your club but can't this time as she'll be on vacation in Florida. I should be seeing Karen the weekend of July 15th to help with the trimming. But if I need some help again at your show I'll be sure to let you know.

I will send you a message with my number since I have some questions about the entry form. I want to make sure I enter for all the shows correctly for that day. I look forward to seeing you there! :excited:

Cindy
Sounds like a fantastic support group along with a ton of fun!
I am excited for you!!!!
