How do you know if your dog is suited for agility/rally/etc?

After reading Karen's thread ( viewtopic.php?f=9&t=33650 ) about Baxter and the responses from Dawn ad Judi, I wondered if Brick could benefit from a structured activity.
The thing is, he's never been one for training. I don't know if it's my fault or if his attention span is too short. I know he understands his commands as I can get him to do them with an edible reward. Without the reward, forget it. And if he is focused on something else, forget it.
Also, I was never very successful with the "come" command. He knows it, because I can get him into a stay, walk away, and then say "come" and he will. But if he's outside and I want him to come in, forget it. He pays no attention. Most times I have to go out and get him. I have to reel him in with the cable but as he gets close to me, he just falls over & plays dead.

So, like I said, after reading Karen's thread, I wondered if Brick could do something like rally or agility.
But I can't believe that every dog is suited for that.
How can you tell if your dog is suited for these types of activities? Is there someone who could evaluate him and let you know if he could do it?
At the dog park, there are a few rally-type apparatuses (apparati?) and he either walks around them or under them.
Is there other activities that may be better suited for terriers?
I wish there were "going to ground" trials. :)

For a moment there I was thinking about Brick-agility-and terrier nature to go to ground......Brick in the tunnel.....would he come out? As a terrier and his drive to catch things, would he be suitable for lour coursing? Granted, he'd have to do that off leash and would he come back?

Yeah, he can't be let off leash.
I believe he will stay within a 50 ft or so radius of me, but that doesn't help when I need to gather him up for whatever reason.
Plus I'm not confident that he would stay within a certain radius of me or wouldn't run away.
