Is it okay?

Hi everyone, I have a chance to adopt a year old male OES and I am wondering how well my rescue OES Sam will do with a male OES in the house. We have never had 2 males living together - only have had one male and one female. I am a bit concerned if 2 males would be an issue or if the OES laid back attitude will prevail in this situation. Any guidance will be wonderful.

Thanks, Martha and Sam :wag:

Do you know how each of them typically do with other dogs?
Two males can do just fine together!
i had never had 2 males before and now i do not understand why i never did my 2 boys love each other can you get them together first
Sam does great with other dogs, he was used living with our old female - she would boss him around and he took it all in stride. The other OES is a puppy - 1 year who has been raised with another dog who has recently passed away. The present owner says he gets along well with others. I am wondering if the energy level around here will go up and be too much to deal with or if they will be alright together. Guess the only way to know is introduce the dogs to each other.
my sister has 2 male Boxers and 1 male Dalmation and 1 female mutt. They all get along great. 3 are rescues only 1 "paid" for. I think my 3 females have issues. Maybe rescues would let you have them spend some time together away from your home first. Just a thought...
Mine are 2 males and they get along fine :)
Energy levels are high as one is only 16 months old but nothing i can't control with a raised voice

If both dogs are used to other dogs they should be fine but it is always better to see if you can introduce them first in a play area to see how they react with each other.
Brick & Zeke (both males) lived together just fine.
At home, they kinda did their own thing (you'd think they didn't like each other), but when out, they never strayed from each other.
My two boys get along just fine, they aren't oes. Wolf hybrid and hound. Hybrid is 1 1/2 yr and the hound is 5 yrs.
Make an effort to do the introductions right (just to be safe) and all will be well. We have two males now, and have had two males in the past. Every combination was just fine. They always end up best of friends. And in each combination they worked out a dynamic that was right for them. They were all a little different, but it was all good.

We've had great success with boys together.
I have 5 males and 1 female - and fosters of both sexes (but mostly males) coming through my house quite often......if the group is well socialized and stable, there is no gender issue what so ever. :)
The meeting did not go well, Bear the young OES we were thinking of adopting was very very aggressive. My poor dear Sam was intimidated. On top of all of this, Bear has never been to the vet. I am not willing to expose my dog Sam to unknown health issues. Felt bad for Bear, he needs strong decipline and I think he will be fine. So, the search is on for a girl.
Don't assume all males will be problematic. Could easily have been just this one combination.

Our current rescue (Rudy) has huge issues with being other dog aggressive but has loved our other sheepieboy Hudson since day one. To be clear Hudson is the one dog he likes...and he's no fan of cats or large ctows either. Go figure.

I am sorry to hear this meeting didn't work out. Good luck to you with your search.
I'm sorry that the meeting did not go well.

I have two males and my rescue Gar is very attached to my other male Simon. Except for one tiff they get along great. In fact Gar gets very anxious if Simon gets out of his sight or goes somewhere without him.
