Shurtling

What IS shurtling anyway? I read that Heart will soon be shurtling Harry. Should I be concerned for Harry's safety? For Heart's reputation as a lady? :twitch:

I was wondering the same thing.
Shurtling is something that Heart and Tiggy  have down to an art form!

They channel a shark and a snapping turtle and take your fingers off along with the treat you offer them. Were does it say that Heart will be shurtling Harry? (found it)
AH---em....

Yes, as MIM mentioned there are a FEW sheepies who have learned the fine are of SHURTLING!!!

It IS a talent that is very hard to master,......
The SNAP has to be timed to perfection!!!

If the shurtle comes out too early, it is call
'shurtling the wind' ~~which is extremely embarrassing that the execution was premature....

IF the snap is too late, a ""Shurtle excellent"" can easily take off an EAR (of another sheepie) OR a finger (from the hand that feeds)~~The real danger in this is the shurtle would surely never get a treat unless the hand is covered with a Kelvar glove (the OVGLOVE)...And of course if it happens with another sheepie, the shurtle will get blackballed by all the other sheepies for being so dumb as to even try a "lagging shurtle!!"

No...my friends, The 'shurt' MUST be time exactly to the second.

EXAMPLE:::: Harry is ALWAYS aggrevating Heart :hearts: ..In his mind, the only reason for Heart being there is for Harry's pleasure! Harry will approach with a bow and a rambunction BARK!!! BARK!!!! BARK!!!, to which Heart will respond with a distinctive lip curl and tongue swipe!! WARNING the dear boy, that although 'MOM" brought her over,,,,,,NO ONE ASKED her if she WANTED TO GO!!!!!!!!

After a couple of minutes of this foreplay DANCE...Harry goes after Heart in a feverish vengence....

(NOW this is when the SHURTLE rears it's ugly head!!))

Harry will buzz past my girl and in one fell swoop WE (Judi and I) hear the Jaws of destruction..the nashing of the teeth!!!!! NOT once or twice,,,,but as many as 4 shurts in a matter of nanoseconds, like a machine gun or a AK40!!!!

:yay: :yay: A successful shurt... after Judi and I discuss the execution and the recovery....Heart :hearts: waits for the official points she will be awarded and she always scores between 7 and 10 (perfect score!!!)

So...I know this response is a little wordy...but I wanted you to REALLY understand the mechanics of a DARN GOOD SHURTLE!!!!!!!
   :ghug:
Not all sheepdogs dislike Shurtles - in fact some live to be shurtled by the Shurtle.

For them it is all part of the fun -

Here is Harry aggravating his favorite Shurtle

Oh and David....... Heart the Shurtle is on the left and Harry is on the right.

Very nice Shurtling explanation Val.
Thank you Judi...coming from a coshurtle judge, it is high praise!!!!!!!... :D

And thank you for pointing out to our new friend (David) who is who!!!!!!!!
So Harry is the kind of dog that inspires perfection in the professional Shurtles? What would happen if Harry were with Heart AND Tiggy?
KIM....That would be EPIC!!!!!

We would certainly have to televise this event!!! MIM???? NOW you have a real reason to visit!!!!! :clappurple: :clappurple: :clappurple: :clappurple:
Harry would be in heaven. :hearts: :hearts:

Today at our Dog Scout picnic in the park I had him off leash. I was setting up a few pieces of agility equipment because our troop leader wants me to get certified for a couple of agility badges so I can evaluate other dogs who want to earn the badge. Well our bad wild child was all wound up going over the jump and then running for the mini A-frame. He was just about to go back over the jump again when.....

Lo and behold ...... he spotted a Shurtle 8O

It was enough to distract him from the jump and then he was running amok barking at the Shurtle to chase him and she took the bait running behind him with her leash dragging.

Of course neither Val and I could get them to stop and all of the other Dog Scout owners looked horrified at the mayhem that ensued.

:twitch: :twitch:

I don't think the rest of the world is ready for Shurtles and Shurtle Hunters.
I'm not really sure that we want to try the experiment of putting Harry, Heart and Tiggy in the same place at the same time. It could be very, very bad but yes probably worthy of televising. I remember Judi commenting on Harry's lack of impulse control and thinking that when it comes to Tiggy the words impulse and control are never used in the same sentence.

I friend of mine visited with her two goldens on the weekend. The 14 year old took one look at Tiggy and went and lay down in the corner  Disnae is 3 months younger than Tiggy and she was overwhelmed by the Tigmonster. We ended up crating Tiggy for a while so that we could all have a rest and Tiggy could attempt to calm down a tad.

I am sorry Mim but that cracks me up.

Harry sometimes gets those kind of reactions too.
Don't worry Judi, we were laughing about it as well.

Felicity and I are terrible anthropomorphists (sp?) So we were explaining to Wayne exactly what Harriet had to say about the situation.

It went something like "Oh my gosh, look at the crazy young thing. I can't believe what the young people of today get up to, they are so rude and bad mannered!!!! Well I have NO intention of putting up with that kind of behavior, their parents might think it's acceptable but I most certainly do NOT. I'll just go over here out of the way where it's quiet and have a nice nap. With any luck the monster will be gone by the time I wake up. Hrumphhhh"

That is the way Pearl deals with Heart and Harry....but, Harry being, well, Harry, there are times when he just doesn't get it....

.AND THEN...he GETS it from PEARL~~~~ Worse than a SHURTLE, is is a SNASP~~~~~~
(which is NOT just a snake BUT AN ASP!!!!)
NO warning, NO lipcurling...just deadly and quick~~~lunging to quickBITe..her prey doesn't know what hit them until they feel the PAIN~

~~She DOES connect and her bite hits the most vunerable spots...EARS and one time with Heart, her TONGUE. TO the point of bleeding~~ and boy does the tongue bleed!!!!!!

NO permanant damage, mind you...but her 'victims' remember their encounter for a very long time!!!!!
Do they ever try to pester Pearl again after that?
Welll Harry has a look a real fear when he sees Pearl. He will walk on the other side of the room to avoid her..... :cow: :cow:

Heart has been Snasp 3 times...once when she was about 10 weeks and tried to eat Pearl's food, while Pearl was eating!!!!! (she got clipped on the mouth and cried and cried...saw blood, called Ali and suggested that maybe Heart doesn't need to be abused in this way. Ali assured me that Pearl was trying to teach Heart to be polite, and have her learn what is and is NOT accepted in her new home.

The second time...Heart kept aggrevating Pearl. She would not give up. Pearl turned and SNASP her...Heart screamed and ran into the bathroom. I followed her and saw blood on the floor from the tongue bite~~~

The third time was just a couple of weeks ago...Pearl had a bone and Heart decided SHE wanted it. I guess she forgot that Pearl won't give it up like Cozmo...and she got SNASP quickly..no blood this time/...... :phew: :phew: :phew:
Well Tiggy was lucky enough not to get shurtled or snasped on the weekend. But then she had 3 year old Disnae to harass so she kinda left Harriet alone even if it was by accident
I believe that Judi may have accused Izzie of shurtling over Sheepiepalooza weekend 8)

I know that she does have jaws of death  and you have to make sure that she takes her cookies gently or she may take a finger or two also. When she plays she does do the snapsnapsnap noise. I just always thought of it as her warning music....like castanets...those little finger cymbal/snap things :D
   Amanda!!

What a lovely way of discribing shurtle song~~~I like it ~~

I didn't know that Izzie and Heart are cut from the same mold.

Next year, we really need to get THEM together.

I don't think I have ever seen shurtle to shurtle sheepieplay~~~

Would be very interesting to watch.

Maybe we could sell tickets for a rescue donation??????

A "cage match." Two Shurtles go in, and two much smaller Shurtles come out....jaws snap and fur flyies everywhere :lmt:

I think we could sell more tickets if we recruited 2 puppies and had them play for awhile :wag: We could have a reality show...Who will be the next Charm & Teddy? :cheer: :cheer: :hearts: :cheer: :cheer:
Ahhhhhh~~ Amanda~~~you are a Sheepiepalooza chairperson in the making~~~~~

 :ghug:      :ghug:
Izzie and Heart might both be Shurtles, but they are so pretty that they can get away with it!
I like it..a shurtle match. Charm is a little shurtle in training. She scares my older children when they visit with her chompchompchomp!! I tell them that it is a sheepie thing, but they are horrified. 8O
Sheepie horror film...

Shurtle Zombies take over Sheepiepalooza 2012  :excited:

Our heroines (Izzie and Heart) bravely defend the crowd from the zombies using their own shurtle abilities. SheepieShurtles Unite

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^OK
Even for me!!!! this is wayy OUTTHERE!!!!!!!!

Tiggy wants some of the bling with stun capacity. :twitch:
Anyone else struck by the fact that only bitches seem to shurtle? :cow: :cow:

I have a shurtler as well, in Mad. Not with treats, but she takes great pleasure in air-snapping at young, obnoxious relatives. With a big grin on her face. It's obviously a sport for her

They do in this house, poor Syd, shurtled by sis and momma.  Even though he is a good 10 Kg's heavier then the girls, we call him our Giant squishy marshmellow. Girls RULE THIS HOUSE !!!!!   Even though there is now one with a full set of Dingle Dangles in the realm :P
I need to see video! C WILL take fingers or a hand with his "I just pottied outside treat"

He will also make noises and fuss if Cooper tries to eat at the same time he is eating... But I refuse to do separate bowls, so they work through it an no blood haas been drawn.

This is the first I have heard of this, and need more evidence to determine our sheepie has this behavior....

All very interesting!!
