recommendation for groomer in atlanta area

Hi all!

Olive-dog and i had a bad experience with grooming last summer, where the words "puppy cut" were translated into "shave." I'd hate to re-live that again, so if anyone has any suggestions, they'd be greatly appreciated!

I live north of atlanta and am willing to drive for a great cut!

Thanks!!!

Deanna

One of our members lives in the Atlanta area and just had really nice clips/trims done on her two girls...oh Allison.... :lmt:
Did someone call my name????

I have a GREAT groomer! She was recommended to me by another board member that doesn't post all that often anymore. I will say they aren't inexpensive, but you get what you pay for. I can show my groomer photos of what I want done, and she does it. She will also de-mat (though I feel guilty and I know its a chore) a dog where most places see mats and just shave them down or cut them out.

here are the photos of Tonks and Luna before and after their summer cut downs:

I happen to know that Tonks is AWFUL at the groomers. She wriggles and cries and squirms and is generally a monster. Denise is always so positive about it. This past time when I asked how she was, she said "well, she's stopped snapping at me"-- we've been going for three years and I never knew Tonks snapped at her! She never said a word, until Tonks stopped doing it.

Ask for Denise at Allure Pet Salon; you can read reviews here on Kudzu.com:

plus all of the contact information, plus a map on how to get there is included. Tell her Allison with Tonks and Luna sent you!
beautiful dogs!!! thank you for the replies and posting the photos...i will be calling denise today - she's only about 45 minutes from me, that's perfect!
She's about 30 minute drive for me, and completely worth it! Good luck!
a few extra words of advice- Denise told me that what people think of as Puppy cuts is essential "shorter, but the same length all over" but it doesn't specify the actual length. She did my girls with the clippers, but managed to leave about an inch maybe 1.5 inches all over using a comb, and then leave the heads long. She scissor cut the area where the heads transition to the shorter hair (she called the short stuff "thinning" the coat) I believe.

Hope that helps while talking with her!

thank you. i need all the advice i can get after last year's disaster...i left the groomer in tears! granted, i'm a little emotional as it is, but after all those hours of brushing and hard work, it was so sad! i'm so glad i logged on here to ask for help...this year will be better for sure. have you already done summer cuts for your two pups this year? it's going up to 90 this week, so i suppose it's about that time:( by the way, it's nice to speak with other sheepie owners in GA!
I was emotional too when I dropped the girls off- I worked really hard this year to grow out their coats. It was our first real year with adult coats, so I was able to manage to preserve most of it. Denise saw me get a bit teary when I said goodbye to the girls coats (yup- not to the girls, but to the hair!) and she offered to bag it up for me, saying she knew that some people had theirs made into yarn.

I cut the girls down about 2 weeks ago. We've been traveling a good deal with business, and when the girls kennel there's a pool for them to swim in. I don't let them swim in full coat, so I knew if they were going to have fun, as well as relief from the heat, that it was summer cut time.

We have quite a few GA sheepie owners- we just had our Springtime Atlanta Sheepdog Day in the park. About a dozen sheepies came- you should join us for our Summer Solstice one!
sheedog day in the park?! AWESOME. i will def have to come to summer solstice...where can i find info on it?
Fiona, from OES Rescue Network of the Southeast organizes it; you can drop her a note through facebook (if you are on there) and get added to the mailing list.
