Adoptable OES With Low Thyroid in Oconto, Wisconsin

http://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/19403062

I saw this girl on Petfinder today. She is at the Oconto Area Humane Society and Animal Shelter, Oconto, WI.

Maybe someone from the mid-west or someone from rescue can help find this girl a new home. She certainly could use some extra love and attention!

My name is Neeya and I am a Purebred Old English Sheepdog who was surrendered to the shelter because my owner could no longer afford to care for me. I am a happy seven year old who is very playful despite the extra weight I am carrying..I am a big girl at 123 pounds! I am already spayed, current on my vaccinations, and housebroken....and would make the perfect family pet! Whoever considers adopting me should know that I have a thyroid condition that requires daily medication...which is fairly inexpensive and I don't mind taking at all.

Yes, she appears to be grossly overweight at 123 pounds but she sounds like such a nice girl. There is a beautiful baby that will emerge when she's at a healthier weight. Hoping someone here will see great potential in Neeya and consider adopting her. :hearts:

Not sure what dosage of thyroid medication she's on... Darby & Emma's Soloxine costs $8.40 per month, that's $4.20 each. She's almost twice their size so she may be on a higher dosage for now. We divide the daily dosage in two and give half in the morning and the other half in the evening to keep the level more constant in their systems.

Whoever considers adopting me should know that I have a thyroid condition that requires daily medication...which is fairly inexpensive and I don't mind taking at all. My adoption fee is $75. Please come in to meet me during any of the shelter's open hours! The adoption fee for our puppies and small dogs is $80, spayed or neutered adult dogs are $75, and the fee for an unaltered adult dog is $55 (with additional spay or neuter surgery costs to be paid by adopter). We require an application from each potential adopter. Please be patient with us during the application process as we have very limited staff and it may take up to 5 days to complete your application. Purebreds must be spayed or neutered before adoption and pets 8 years and over are 50% off! Many area veterinarians are offering a spay/neuter discount, free health exam and/or free fecal examination. Please call us at 920-835-1738 with any questions. We are very rescue friendly, so if you are a verifiable rescue group and would like to pull one of our pets, please contact us for more information. OAHS is open Mon/Tues/Fri/Sat from noon until 4pm, and on Thurs from noon until 7pm. We are located at 150 S. Katch Avenue behind the Oconto Veterinary Center in Oconto, Wisconsin. From Hwy 41, go west onto Hwy 22, north onto Van Hecke Avenue, and east onto S. Katch Avenue.

I saw this earlier and was shocked at how overweight she is, poor girl. She looks like she has a wonderful personality though, and Jaci is right, with a lot of love, diet, and proper exercise she will be beautiful.
I'll mention her to Joan just in case she has anyone who is looking for a dog she can send up there.

Wow...big girl. 8) Do love her expression though.

Kristine
Thanks Kristine!

I'd love to see pictures after someone's had 6 months to help her gradually drop some of that extra weight. I bet we wouldn't realize she was the same dog in a year's time! Did you notice how nice her teeth look? :D
Oops... I'm so sorry. I didn't see you had posted about her.
Maybe Ron can combine the two posts together under your
thread... I'll send him a note.

I'd been gone all day and was trying to catch up and didn't
take time to read what had already been posted...
Thank you for combining the two posts! :D
Just a quick update on Neeya in case someone is hoping to adopt a nice companion.

I contacted the shelter today to see if they might be looking for OES rescue assistance. The shelter is rescue frieldly but Neeya is currently doing well right where she is as she continues to await her new family. She has lost 20 pounds during her stay with the Oconto Area Humane Society. :clappurple: Someone out there must also be able to see the beautiful girl that Neeya is and will become with love, patience and guidance. This girl has got the sweetest face... and the whitest teeth!

Highlights about Neeya-

Has quickly become a staff favorite.
She is a very happy, go-lucky girl that does not mind calling the shelter home for now.
It sounds like they've made her kennel special too with a nice bed and toys plus a large outdoor run that she has access to during the day.

She was resting by the director's feet as she wrote and enjoys playing with her best buddy Jill who's a small terrier mix.
Thanks for the update Jaci!!!!!!!!!!
She is adorable!
she is as cute as can be!!!!!
I am having a hard time with this. Oconto is 40 miles south of us and she looks like a beautiful girl. Our only issue is Tripper, the basset, he's getting old and he's not doing very well so bringing in another dog would not be good for him. He wasn't all that impressed with Butch, he liked him just didn't think he needed to come home with us. Butchy would love to play more and Tripper just wants no part of that anymore.

My husband didn't help either cause he said do you want to go see her, just can't but yes, I want to.

Can see where the people couldn't keep her anymore, this is a depressed area so probably just couldn't afford it. Who knows what she was eating to cause the excessive weight.
Remember Glacier came back to us at some horrible weight.....132?? and now is 72. So tubby here can be a pretty girl again.
Thank you for the update Jaci.
Glad to hear that she is in good hands and her weight is going down.
Her face is so precious. Look at that smile. Melts my heart
