Nu Groomer after 4 years!

My groomer who we've had for almost four years ( going every 4 weeks) had to leave and relocate and will not be able to groom my dogs anymore

So, I spent last weekend "interviewing" other groomers in the area and after going to about four or five, I found one I am willing to try. Our appointment is Tuesday...Just so worried with a new groomer...Keep paws crossed for us!

Know that feeling. Paws crossed for you here.

Have you considered it might be a sign to learn to do it yourself? ;-)

After years of schnauzer/poodle looks I learned that even my pathetic efforts are better than most groomers. HOWEVER if you get a good one...let people in your area know :-)

Kristine
Kristine,
I tried the DYI route. My poor dogs looked like they had an airline runway along their back! They are kept short but my former groomer kept them so neat and clean and EVEN looking...With nicely rounded feet and rounded butt...He did such a beautiful job.

My main concern with a new groomer is hurting the dog. Lots and lots of groomers are not so nice. But after interviweing this new one - and I later found out she is a friend of someone I work with - I liked her. And unlike my prior groomer which I travelled 45 minutes to go to, she is about five minutes away....I will be so nervous Tuesday....If I can figure out how to post pix, I will!
We just went through the same thing. Our groomer had been with us since the boys were pups. She is having some real problems with her hands and wrists so she is taking a break from grooming until she can heal or find out what is causing the problem.

She gave me several recommendations but I did not feel comfortable with any of them--none had experience with sheepies.

I called Aussie Pet Service. They come to the home and groom in our driveway. We had one session and so far so good. My boys do not yet need to be clipped or scissored so it was just bath -blow dry-ears and nails--with a minimal brush out. I liked them and the boys were fine with them. They show a sheepie in their ad and sent a groomer that was familiar with sheepies so so far so good.
The reason I am posting is that they are in several states so you might check your area.

All remains to be seen at this point--it may be time for me to build a grooming station and begin to do it all myself! I do love the break so I am keeping my fingers :crossed: :crossed: that they work out long term or at least until my groomer can resume!
Hi Karen,
I actually used Aussie a few times when my older dog couldn't go to a groomer due to an illness. I liked the first groomer they sent but she got hurt and left. I tried them a few times after that and they sent a different groomer each time. I felt my dog needed a regular groomer they can get used to so I did it myself with the one until he was able to get back to our regular groomer. Which is the one that has now left

Hope you continue to have good luck with Aussie. :crossed:
Diane
Hi Diane-
I wanted to give you an update--Aussie came again today--I requested a different shampoo and conditioner and they were fine with that. All went well again today and I am very pleased. I asked the groomer (she was the same one as last time) if I could request her ongoing and she said all I needed to do was call and put in the request which I will do.

So far so good and I am keeping my fingers crossed that they will continue to work out--as I really do like the fact that they come here to groom. My previous groomer would pick up the dogs and bring them back and with my schedule that is a big deal! The boys look great today and seem to like the process--
Hope this helps--maybe if you just set out your preferences up front they will work with you again to your liking.
Yes, I did request the same groomer but both times, they got hurt and left between the time they saw us and the next appointment. You sound like you have a keeper. If I had that luck with the at home groomer, I would love it too!

Tomorrow is my first appointment with new groomer. She is convienet - drop off on way to work, pick up by lunch time. Just hope she can handle them okay :crossed: :crossed:
Hope all went well today with your new groomer!
Yes! All went well with new groomer! :yay: :yay: In fact, they sent her home looking like an OES from a show! Top knot and all fluffy...We usually cut around the eyes for "bangs". And we usually trim down the legs and all around. I didn't tell them to do that so they kept her fluffy and made a top knot with a little bow/barett sticking up. Looked so cute and I will post a pix. Its on my other computer right now. I combed her through to make sure they didn't just do the outer coat and leave the rest as a matt and she was fine! They said she was a love...licking the groomer's face the whole time...Yeah!!!!

Now, my next OES. Her brother, twice her size and not as nice and "licky" ...if you know what I mean!
Diane
:aww: it sounds like she is adorable!! Glad it went well!
