I hate doing it, but....

...its getting hot, so its time to shave down Tonks and Luna.

I HATE hate hate it more this year than before. I've been good about growing them out, and grooming them this year. We've got 13 months of coat growth going on! But the temperatures here are climbing steadily, and we have quite a few business trips ahead of us. If we shave them down, then they can swim at the kennel, and I won't have to worry about them getting over heated, or coming home from my trips to days and days of dematting.

Still, I hate having to do it!

I brushed the girls up for this past Sunday's Sheepdog day in the park- you can see how much coat we've managed to grow. I know they're not as nice as a show dog would look, but for me its the best we've managed so far!

Their top knots don't seem to be a huge help- they still have some hair growing in on the bridge of their snouts, between their eyes, that is too short for the rubber band to grab. I'm going to have the groomer leave their heads long, and not trim that snout area, so we can try and grow it our entirely.

Tonks to Roscoe, a new foster dog in our Rescue: "You look really comfortable in that snazzy hair cut. Will you puh-leeeez talk to my mom? This heat's killin' me! "

aWW,,,,Allison...

I know what you are saying. You spend time growing coat and brush and dematt...only to have to shave them for their own comfort...

BUT~~~I think your two are cute in ANY coat~~~ :hearts: :hearts: :hearts:
oh i got you on that it started turning in the 90's and poor boys just won't stop panting i did duffy the other day about the worse shave job i needed a new blade but he feels so good next is dreamer !! they will be happier love the pics they looked great
I am taking Guinness and Molly to the self bath dog wash next thur I will brush them out and blow dry But next go I am clipping them down It is not so bad and they are cooler. By the way your dogs are beautiful!!!!!
Ah I can understand your reluctance so much work done and they do look adorable! You can always move up north, it's been hovering around 32F all week here!!
They are such gorgeous girls. I enjoyed the pictures!
I think you will be surprised Allison how nice their coats will look with a fresh puppy cut. You don't have to go super short. I just gave Harry his about three weeks ago and he will get another one after Sheepiepalooza so he can have a carefree summer.
I emailed my groomer photos from OES.org of puppy cuts I like. I'm hoping we can keep an inch on the girls. I'd like 2 inches, but the groomer says the best she can do with the razor is 1", and she seems reluctant to scissor them.
Allison--your girls look great! I know it is tough when you have worked so hard--but you are right the heat and humidity hear in the southeast is rough on them! They will be adorable in their new dooos!!
Sad to do, but they will still look cute!

And they do love that pool!!

They love that pool like crazy! And we have 3 business trips back to back coming up. The girls will be kenneled a total of 17 days in 6 weeks. If they can be swimming, and I don't have to worry about trying to de-mat them between stays, I know everyone involved will be happier.

They look beautiful! I'm taking mine for puppy cuts tomorrow. We have had a few days here lately in the 80's!
its 10:30pm, and I'm drinking coffee and trying to get in the last of my de-matting before tomorrow. I got some nice pictures of the girls today at the park, so I can post before and after photos. Of course, how the look tomorrow will all depend on how much more I can get thier legs tangle and mat free. :headbang: Seems so counter-productive, brushing my dogs like mad, so that it can all be cut off. :?
:crossed: :crossed: :crossed: for a good groom job tomorrow!
I know they'll look gorgeous. :roses:
Looking forward to the photos.
I wept when I dropped them off. I didn't bawl, but I teared up. That's never happened before, and I take them in for summer cuts every year. The groomer offered to put the hair in a bag for me. I said yes, and I kissed Luna's coat good bye. Not Luna, her coat. Pathetic. (Tonks had already gone back and hopped into the bath).
I can't wait to see pictures! I know you'll miss the coat, but think of how much more time you'll have when you don't have to groom 2 full-coated sheepies and how much happier they will be in the hot, humid GA weather!
Drum-roll, please..... :rimshot:

They are gorgeous girls. They look velvety soft!
I think they look great!! Your groomer did a fabulous job! :clappurple: :cheer:
I was really relieved picking them up- I thought Tonks was going to be much more of a hack job. She went in still pretty matted, even after days of my working on her legs. The groomer dematted the rest of it, did the cut, and didn't charge me for the de-matt. I tipped her BIG time. Last summer we had to do a much closer shave, due to matting and my surgery. This was last May:

They look awesome!!!!
Awww they both look gorgeous!!

I was impressed with their legs they are a lovely length and you said that they were the trouble spots. :clappurple:
The girls look really nice. :clappurple:

I bet you were SO relieved when you picked them up!!
Oh they look so nice! Now you can enjoy your warmer weather & they can too!
They look terrific! Your groomer did an amazing job. Love the length on the legs!

Did you have the belly shaved?
They still look fuzzy and adorable, I'm sure you were very relieved! I would smother them with hugs (if they happen to show up at Sheepiepalooza... :sidestep: )

Belly and armpits- and Tonks has down the inside of her legs too. She chews there, and the mats were just too bad. But you don't notice it when she's standing or playing, just when she rolls over for a belly rub!
They look great. We get Butchy's belly and inside legs shaved down too and makes life much easier because the brush is not his friend.
