Matties been whining all night

I don't know whats wrong with my baby girl. She got me up 2x last night to go outside. She's been panting all night. It's 6:45 am now and she's just laying by my feet crying. The vet opens at 8. I considered taking her to the er vet but thought i'd try to wait. She goes outside and squats alot to pee. She isn't drinking much so it's not like she she is having trouble controlling her bladder. She slid and fell yesterday, we got some snow and her and Frankie were chasing each other and she slid down our hill and summersalted. Maybe she hurt herself.
I'm worried.

Lisa...Poor Mattie... :( ..I think you are right to take her to the vet. Maybe she pulled a muscle when she slipped.

This is the worst part of owning a pupper. Your gut tells you something is not right, but since they can't tell you, you have to go with your feelings.

Please keep us posted...hoping that all is well ~

Poor Mattie! Let us know how she gets on at the vet. Fingers crossed that it is nothing serious.

If she isn't drinking a lot and still going outside to squat a lot, then perhaps she has a urinary tract infection? She could be whining and uncomforable from a possible UTI?

Poor baby. Let us know how it goes with the vet. If this is a potential option, then you would need to catch a sample of urine to take it with you I would think.
Poor baby. I hope she feels better this morning. I'd definately take her in. Let us know how she is please!

UTI would be the first thing I'd think too... the whining
and frequent squatting and panting. Maybe pacing too?
Hugs to your baby girl and you.
Omigosh. This is "Pile On Lisa Week", isn't it? Or is it "Pile On Lisa Month"?

:ghug:

Hope Mattie is doing okay.

After all of this, you deserve a schooner of wine and your feet up on the couch!

The panting would worry me too, hopefully not bloat or an obstruction.... hope it's nothing serious and that they can make her feel better quickly.
My 1st thought was something with her new med (the di drops) was out of whack.

Hope she checks out OK today. :crossed: :hearts: :crossed:
I thought of the eye drops too, hope all is well.
I keep coming back to check for an update... :crossed: .
We are back from the vet.
Mattie has a really bad UTI alot of blood in her urine. The vet thinks it could be because now that her kidneys are starting to function properly that they just don't know exactly what to do. He's hoping she's not prone to them now. He also suggested cranberry concentrate pills.

So off to the pharmacy for antibiotics. He would like to see her get 3 doses in today. I did ask the vet if he could euthanize me, all he could offer was a 6 pack. :)

I'll keep everyone updated.

Go for the 6 pack... we would miss you dearly!!

You don't know how long her system has been out of whack... it's likely the reason she was
surrendered in the first place. You might pick up some ph strips to monitor her urinary ph
levels on occasion. I think ph levels rise when there's an infection brewing.
:phew: :phew: Glad to Mattie is on the road to recovery.

Izzie gets cranberry pills everyday. She has been prone to UTI's her whole life. They do seems to help :D
Take the six pack and give Matty the antibiotics. Hope she is feeling better soon. You sure have had a busy week. Ok take two six packs.
:phew: Hope you are all feeling better over there soon!!!!!

Jaci's mention of the ph strips reminded me of something. I was housesitting a friend's dog, and the dog started peeing in the house. I called her and asked her if Coty was prone to UTI's. The answer was no. I took her to the vet and she did, in fact, have an infection. At any rate, the vet gave her an antibiotic, but also another prescription to immediately balance the ph in her system, which was supposed to ease the painful symptoms quicker than the antibiotic could kick in. I have no idea was it was, and maybe this is what the cranberry is supposed to do, but it worked like a charm. She was much more comfortable immediately.

I have also been thinking about Frankie. How is he doing?

several years ago I had a sheepie named Mandy who got UTI's that would cycle apromimately every 6 weeks. I could always tell because her urine started to smell like dead fish before blood showed in her urine. I kept begging them to do a culture but the vet did not until I SCREAMED at them to do it! I was fed up with Mandy having to suffer with this all the time and constant antibiotics. The culture showed she had both strep AND staph infections. Each time I was given a scrip that would hit one or the other. I finally received a med that took care of both. I cannot believe it took all those months to get the right drug. I also gave her cranberry juice in her bowl. She loved it plus it gave the light pink tinge to the hair on her face. :cheer:
I hope she gets better very soon. Also, did the 6-pack the vet prescribed for you have plenty of refills on it? :yay:
Since Googie Girl Glacier is on Proin the vet warned about UTI's We've gone thru one already and I should take her to be tested......I keep forgetting. Glacier would not show pain unless it was very, very bad.....super stoic. Anyway, I use a cranberry powder on her food each day.....she's not thrilled but will eat through it. I should try the juice, except I'd hate to share....
I am wondering if yogert would also lower the ph of the urine. It might be more tasty than the cranberry powder.
Glad your baby is doing better. Hope the 6 pack kicks in soon and you too feel better. :high5: I had no clue about the cranberry pills and such. Learn something new everyday on here! :clappurple:
Glad Mattie is feeling better!
Her and Frankie must stay busy brain storming on all the
ways to keep Momma on her toes!
Glad you now know what Mattie's problem is! Enjoy the six pack!
Make sure the cranberry juice is 100% juice--not added sweetners. You can also use Apple cider vinegar with the mother--Braggs makes one. The mother is natures prebiotics that help balance the digestive tract which the bladder is at one end of.

You can add either directly to the drinking water too or an top of food. You can also consider swapping a couple of kibble meals for canned food. Canned is 80% or so water and the contents are more easily and fully digestable than kibble. Just makes it a bit easier on the whole digesstive system.
