newly adopted, couple questions

Hi everyone,
I have a few questions about our newly adopted sheepie, Molly. She's doing great and adjusting well and she's been to the vet. But since then I've noticed a couple things... for one, a small, probably dime sized lump on her back. It's just below her collar exactly center. The lump is kinda squishy and moveable. Her appointment to be spayed is coming up in a few weeks but until then any ideas what this might be?
Another thing... she's kinda smelly! She was in heat when we brought her home, I was cleaning her belly and girly parts daily, but now I'm noticing that she she seems to be leaking from her anal glands. I'm guessing that's what it is from reading on here. Her tail area gets kinda wet and it's a really bad weird smell. If she is leaking, is that normal? Is she always going to do that or is there something that can be done to prevent it?

I'll be sure to post some pics of our pretty girl soon and do a formal introduction. But for now, any insight is appreciated!
Thanks,
Jami

Welcome Jamie! I'm glad you're here.

(Your welcome email just bounced back to me. Would you kindly update your profile with a working email address? Thanks.)

I've never had a puppy! I hope that others will jump in with their experience.
She may need her anal glands expressed!

The squishy lump on her back is more than likely a cyst that
they can drain or remove when she is spayed!

How old is Molly?
Congratulations Jami on your new girl.

Definately sounds like her anal glands needs to be expressed and the vet can do that when she goes in. You might have to take her in earlier if that area is really bothering her, like she is trying to bite her back end or she is scooting on her butt or just generally uncomfortable, means they need expressing sooner rather then later.

Lump at the back of her neck just below where her collar is, either a cyst or it could be if that is where the needle/vaccination site is from that, if that is the case it can take a long time to subside. One of mine had that with vaccinations came up like a jelly pea at the needle site and took ages to go away.

If it is a cyst no need to do anything about that unless it starts to increase in size then removal is better down the track or when she is getting spayed. Your vet will be able to assess what he thinks it is at that time, my tip from where you said the lump is, is from where a needle went in.

The position of the bump I would not at all suspect any thing nasty as far as the lump is concerned but best to let the vet feel and advise you what it is.

Welcome and look forward to seeing photos of your new girl. :D
Oh geesh, how rude of me....

Welcome and congrats Jamie!

Sorry I was doing a quickie post
I don't get too concerned about soft lumps that wiggle about, usually cysts. The one on the neck in middle is more than likely a reaction to a vaccination. Also I wouldn't worry but keep track of them.

On MO, her cysts count is now 5, Jack is now 3. Willie Lump Lumps both.

Now this next is not something for the faint of heart. It is a quick vid on how to express anal glads. The pixs are bad enough, fortunately the stink doesn't come thru. You are catching a sniff from the oozing from the butt. These glands are probably impacted, but they can become infected which is serious. So make sure the oozing isn't pussy or bloody. Ready:

If she was recently in heat and now has discharge that smells bad it could also be infection which can be quite serious so I would at least take her temp and see if there is a fever too...

Welcome to the forum :)
Thanks everyone! After a trip to the groomer today the smell is gone! It was indeed the anal glands. And thanks for the reassurance about the lump, I'm sure it's from her recent vaccinations!
I haven't really figured out how to add pics yet... but you can see our girl here: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?fbid= ... 190cb80dd3
