And the adventure of PLUM continues.....

Plum's mom and dad decided to take a long weekend to a bed and breakfast leaving the two youngest, Gia and Leo and of course Plum in my care.

AND THE FUN BEGINS!!!!-----

At 4:15 Aunt Maureen brought the 3 to my house. After getting the pups settled we decided to go to Walmart and out to eat.

At 4:30, Maureen got a call from dh Dino. He came home, and Plum shot out of the front door, ran to the other side of the street and sat down. Dino called for Plum to COME!!! and of course, she did what any 1 year old sheepie would do...she quickly ran down the street. He was out looking for her.

I turned the car around and with Leo and Gia asking what is wrong, I raced back to my neighborhood.

By the time we made it to the HILL, (my neighborhood), a call was made to Joey and Lenny (the parents). They were going to dinner and then drive to the B&B. They took both cars and began driving the streets looking. Maureen got her car, so in total there were 5 cars touring the HILL looking for a gray and white pup, IN THE POURING RAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!

I spotted her going the wrong way down a one way street. I could not back up, since there was a car behind me, so I had to circle the block to try to catch her. As she passed me, I saw her veering to the street and running in the middle!~!!!! :( :(

I put an all points bulliten out to all the cars directing them to where Plum was last seen. As I was rounding the block in hot persuit, Gia, began to cry...'Grammie, I have to potty~~" ME..."OH, Gia can you hold it?" Gia..."NOOOOooo"...ME..."Well just go in your pants"....GIA................*beginning to cry harder....""NOOOOooooo!!!"""
ME..."okok..I'll take you to the house"..(by this time, Dino was back home, nursing a bad bruise on his knee which was given to him when Plum slammed into him and then out the door.)

More searching and cell phone calls...AT 6:45....Joey called me.............
((FYI...I live about 2+ miles from my daughter. and there are a couple of major streets with heavy traffic especially on a Friday evening... :| :| )

"Mom....I know where Plum is. A man called and told me that he just put Plum in our yard. I can't believe she made it to the house. I guess since we are always walking ALL over the neighborhood she knew how to get home. OH...and you know how pretty she was, since I just washed her and trimmed her yesterday????....Well she is solid gray and black now..."

I didn't care~~Plum was safe and on her way back to my house......~~~~I am contemplating leaving a leash on her ALL THE TIME, just in case!!!!!!!!

Now Plum is laying here, exhausted,,,, probably dreamng up ways to have a new adventure tomorrow.......

Have your nerves settled yet?
Oh dear PLUM!! You sure do know how to generate excitement on a rainy Friday afternoon! :D :D

This reminds me of a stunt Baley pulled when he was about a year old. It was pouring rain and he ran out the door as poor David was coming in--and took off at top speed. I still chuckle at the sight of my poor husband chasing a sheepie that thought he had the best game going. Just as poor DH would catch up to him and think he was about to get the leash on him--Baley would take off again and stay 'just out of reach'. This went on for about an hour until Baley tired of the game and ended back in our yard and then just walked into the house as if nothing had happened. We obviously had to work on the 'come' command after that one!

Glad that Plum is safe and sound at your house. Have a wonderful weekend and hopefully no more antics. I had to laugh at -- "just go in your pants'!! :D :D :D Have to prioritize-right!!
Oh my gosh...... how traumatic for YOU and all the uprights. :twitch:

I know it seems like poor Plum BUT she knew where she was going. She had no idea how dangerous it was to make her own way home. Of course you guys did.

This happened to us once when we were watching my brothers dog.He escaped from the backyard. We were running after him and Jack was crying "what if he gets hit by a car". When my brother got back from wherever they had been that weekend I told him I couldn't watch his dog again. I think it bummed him out but it was just too stressful for us. His dog, a beagle, is still a runner to this day. However at the time I didn't want his demise on our watch.

Not that I think this will be Plum's MO. In fact I think this is an indication how much she loves her new mommy and no way is she going to give her up. So even though she gave you a scare and it could have turned out very bad it shows how much she loves Joey.

Of course, after this incident Dino may tell you "No more dog sitting" even if the next dog is a couch potato and master beggar staying at a house with two couches and lots of good things to eat...... thus no incentive to go anywhere :lmt:

Hopefully Dino won't be changing the house rules

You two need a couple of stiff drinks and an ice pack on his knee.

:ghug:
So happy she got home safe and sound! You make it sound amusing in hindsight, but I know it must have been sheer terror until you got her safe! :ghug:
Yep, sheer terror is the way I would describe it.

Coming home from obedience class, I had both dogs and I opened the back of the SUV, out they both come and headed for the door. Suddenly Gar bolts...I shoved Simon in the door and take off after the fuzzy butt that was heading for a semi-busy road. I run as fast as I can and scream Gar's name and he just keeps going. I don't know if it was me screaming or the dog heading for the road but I can see cars start to slow. He made it across with me still in hot pursuit when he stops to smell a bush.

I was shaking like a leaf and ready to kill him at the same time.
How frightening!!! Poor Plum, how terrified she must have been while on the lam. Glad it all came to a happy ending. Thank goodness sheepies are so identifiable and easily recognized. What a wonderful gesture to return her to her home.
:phew: :phew: There is nothing more scary especially since a friend just lost her deaf OES to being hit by a truck.....same scenario......scooted out the door, but this time deaf dog couldn't respond to a recall or hear traffic........

You bet your boots, certain things come first!! Hope Dino is OK.
Very scary!!
I'm sooo glad Plum is safe.
I agree I think she just wanted to get back to her family that she loves so much.
I am so glad all worked out for Plum, how scary was that? It puts your heart right in to your throut. A few years ago my son had a friend vacationing at our house and I had been out to the store. When I arrived home I saw the garage door opened, and the door leading into the garage opened as well. I immediatly thought"those dogs better be in the house." So I run in and look around and can't find Violet. I yell to the boys "Violet is gone". So, they in their panic, starting running down the street calling her name. My hubby and I take off in seperate cars to look for her. We have no idea how long she had been gone. I finally turn up the street next to us and there she is outside with a bunch of kids and their Dad. The Dad said he knew Violet belonged in the neighborhood, but wasn't sure where, but had saw us out walking often. Anyway, we roll up and I slid open the side door of the van an Violet, comes running up and jumped in like this was a common happening. You can only imagine how relieved I was to get my girl back safe and sound. The boys did learn to keep the garage door closed at all times.
Bet you don't want to see a replay of this again! I can imagine how scared everyone was. All is well tht ends well. But now I bet your brain is working on ways to make sure something like this doesn't happen again. :phew:
Very scary :(

What a grandma - I can so see little Gia having to go potty! 8)

I'm glad this had a happy ending :hearts:
Yes...I am a very GREAT grammie!!!!!!

About the Gia thingy.....Awww...I was only kidding and I HAD to try~ didn't I??? I mean...I was hot on Plum's TAIL...(so to speak)~~~~~~
One of my biggest fears, especially with a deaf dog. Glad everything turned out fine.
