FRANKIES HOME

Frankie is home. He did very well. I haven't even had a chance to look at his incision. He has his leg bandaged up. They left his IV port in so they wont have to put another one in Friday. He's pretty loopy and very whiney. He's in his crate hopefully he'll fall asleep soon. I'm going to give him a little dinner in a few minutes.

I'll repost Friday after they do the implant.

Thanks for all of your wonderful thoughts and prayers.

What did Frankie have done??
Frankie had stem cells harvested today. He has hip dysplasia and he's just 2 years old. We are trying a new procedure.
You can read more about in the post Frankie has an appt for his stem cell.

This is so exciting and glad to hear so far he's doing well. Really looking forward to hearing how things go tomorrow. Did your vet say how long it would be before they knew if this worked?
Good luck Frankie! :hearts:
Big hugs to Frankie, what a courageous guy. I really look up to you for taking this step that is so new. That being said, I would do it in a heartbeat to help my Oliver as well. Praying he feels better soon, that his cells do what they need to do, and his hips feel better in the end. Thanks for keeping us updated, I know I appreciate all the real-life experience information I can get!
So glad he is home Frankie rest and let those stem cells do their job!! Hoping he gets relief from his pain. Hugs to you both and keep keeping us posted

Wishing Frankie the very best.
I again wanted to thank everyone for your thoughts and prayers for Frankie. We don't have alot of friends or family, so it really touches my heart to know how all of you care for him.

Thank you
Lisa
Good vibes being sent Frankie's way today. :ghug:
Will be anxious to hear how things turn out. Good luck Frankie.

:ghug: Best wishes to Frankie and the whole family today!! :ghug:
thinking of you both today
??? You have LOTS of friends!
Frankies home again. :clappurple:

Everything went well. The oncologist(thats who administers stem cell) said that the next 24-48 hours were going to be very very rough. When you inject something directly into the bone the bone expands and causes severe pain. We have tramadyl and rimadyl both to give him. Unlike when a dog has surgery and they have to keep confined and quiet, she said short walks will help with the pain. He came home I fed him a small meal walked him and now he's sleeping on the couch. :aww:
Doesn't seem to be in any pain at all. He actually came home chewed his bone sucked on his zeebie and played with his kong saucer. I think pain is the norm for him. So with any luck it wont bother him to much :crossed:
The next step will be in 6-8 weeks to have his hips xrayed. We should start seeing major changes.
I'm so glad this step is over. I have a terrible cold of which I came down with a couple of days ago. UGH...

I'll post some pics of his battle scars later.

Lisa Frankie and Mattie
:high5: So happy to hear that Frankie is home! Can you also post pics of his X-rays? It would be interesting to see the progress. Give him a hug and kiss from Oliver, Lucy, and I!
Great news!!! Makes me start the weekend with a smile and hopeful heart

Please give Frankie extra hugs and kisses from all of us!! :ghug: :ghug:
Been watching all day to hear the good news! So glad this is over for both of you. Hugs to you and Frankie!!! He's such a trooper, he'll hopefully breeze right through. :crossed:
I've been watching for updates too. :D
I'm so glad your baby is home. These kids often accept a
higher level of pain... some level of pain is seen as normal
for them. Hoping for wonderful results.

:ghug:
I hope he manages ok and it helps a lot! :crossed: :crossed: :crossed:
:crossed: For major changes in his x rays .

Give Frankie a hug from me and I hope you soon get rid of your cold :)
So glad to hear he's home and will keep fingers crossed that the x-rays look good.

Had the cold the last two wks you have, miserable and takes awhile to get rid of.

AWESOME
:cheer: :yay: :cheer: :yay:
Good news! Give him hugs!
:phew: So glad to hear that Frankie got through the treatment and tolerated everything.

A couple of things about the pain meds. As Rimadyl can be pretty hard on the tummy, I'm sure your vet told you to give it with food. If Frankie is having digestive troubles, you might want to give him famotidine tablets (Pepcid AC) as well. (Oscar gets 40 mg per day.)

Snuggle with your baby and give him some gentle rubs for us.

:clappurple: Good news that he is home and doing well. :clappurple:

Just a little update on Frankie.

Last night Frankie went out at about 8pm and wanted to play ball with daddy.
I said to Troy Do you think they really did the procedure.

On his last potty break around 10 pm he was moving really slow. He came in the house and went right into his crate. From then on if he would get up or roll over he would whine just a little bit. He beat me up in bed. Then got down as soon as I got in. Around 4:30 he wanted back up but I told Troy no.

He's been fine today more interested in licking his IV spot than anything. He's played a little ball, and walked around the yard alot. So the pain has been easily managed. :clappurple:

Hopefully tomorrow will be even better.

So the pain has been easily managed.

Yay!! :D Hoping for great results. :crossed:

But grab that toe-less sock to cover up the IV location
(Unless he's a sock-eater... then consider a long sleeve shirt.)
I swear the IV shave down can be more bothersome than the
procedure that was done sometimes!

I can't wait to hear more news on how he's doing.
:ghug:
:clappurple: :clappurple: :clappurple: Way to go Frankie!!!! :hearts: :clappurple: :clappurple: :clappurple:

Hope all of you had a good night!!! Gentle hugs to all of you! :ghug:
Thank you for the update. I was wondering how Frankie was doing.
Thanks for the update, things are looking good.
So happy to hear that Frankie is not in terrible pain! All paws crossed for continued good recovery and good xrays!
Glad to hear the update. What a great boy!!! So happy that he's doing so well. :cheer:
