Possessive of water bowl

The past couple times we have been to the dog park with Khloe she has been really possessive of the shared water bowl. If she is drinking and another dog comes up she will get really snappy. There are usually 2 bowls side by side and she doesn't want another dog drinking out of either if she is there. It hasn't caused too big of an issue yet. We just get her away from the bowl, make her sit and get her doing something else. I am just afraid she will snap at the wrong dog and it wont be pretty. Any suggestions on what we should do????

Hi Kari........
I kinda had that problem with Oliver. He would show his teeth and snarl. Since I also didn't want any kind of an incident at the dog park, I just bring my own water and collapsable bowl. They aren't good at sucking water out of a bottle. Ollie likes to play with the other dogs but the water is a different story. Actually, it's the simplest remedy and it works out just fine, for everyone.

Thank you!!!! We will give that a try. She also loves the dog park and plays well with others. The water bowl has been our only issue.
Easy take your own water and bowl for her, then that stops any guarding of a communal bowl.

I must be abnormal because I dont like at all any of my dogs drinking from a communal source of water, I think if any dog that has any sort of bug or problems, slurps in a communal bowl and after yours drinks you can pick up anything.

Great collapasable bowls that you can get now and also just when you are at the dog park take a screw top plastic bottle of water for her and dont let her near where every other dog has been slopping and drinking from. JMO. :D
Mim, I agree....I don't like communal bowls. Chauncey is UTD on all shots and is regularly taken to the Vet, but not all are. We don't have a local dog park but a few local shops will have bowls or buckets. I just prefer to take a collapsable bowl and a bottle of water.
