Simon is TWELVE years young today!!
 I was showing Simon in rally class when I met Kristine and we started our talks about getting a puppy. Simon and Kristine's Belle were in the same class, as well as Gale with Aunt Bebe.  Then we came back out to pick up Chewie when we were at our Basset Buddies Rescue big event a month later. Simon was his 1st big car trp riding partner for the 7 hour drive home. The went to classes together, shows together, therapy dog visits and road trips together.  Then Simon had his big health scare this past winter, and I thought he wouldn't make his 12th birthday  He has stabilized, thank goodness. He has permanent heart valve damage, and chronic pain....but with meds, he seems quite happy again! He came to our family as a 6 yr old rescue, and now has lived 1/2 his life with us. He attained all 3 rally titles - with no NQ's along the way. (good for any dog, and exceptional for a basset! ) He excelled as a therapy dog, I retired him at the end of this year d/t his health issues.He came with me to class Monday night, and was SO happy. He got to demo to the new beginners and even did a perfect off lead recall across the ring - he was so glad to show off and play obedience games Happy 12th birthday, Simon!!  Out walking with puppy Chewie -  competing in Rally -  and winning awards!  After Chewie's 1st St Patrick's day parade - hamming for cameras!  showing basset humor at a therapy dog visit   attending Sheepipalooza 2007 -  even went to the OESCA National Specialty in Michigan - in the UP, on the boardwalk -  and now retired, hanging out at home!  I love you Simon!!!  |
