Lambs!

Spring must be here, Todd just texted me at work to say we have our 1st lambs of the year. :clappurple:   :clappurple:

A set of ewe lambs, mom and daughters are doing well. Tails banded and in their lamb pen with mom. :D

I work until 7pm, then right to agility after work (Todd brings Chewie into town  ), so I will need to check them out late tonight.
And back to work Wednesday am 7-7...so likely no pictures until I'm off Thursday. :(
BUT - Maybe there will be MORE by then! :D

I will!
I need to have a few more born and let them get a bit older - that's when it's really fun to watch!
When they are a couple weeks old.... if you can wait that long
Update! :yay:

New text from Todd, we have another birth

Another ewe lamb, still awaiting to hear if this one is a single, or another one coming....

Of course I can wait! I love to see lambs acting like their legs are pogo sticks.
Can't wait to see the pics! AND the video!!
The 2nd birth ended up being a singleton. All are doing well. I went out last night at 10pm when I was home and checked them out...so CUTE!!! :hearts: :hearts:

No more yet today.

I will be out there getting pictures tomorrow morning! :cheer:

Hummm... I never knew lambs did this. Just FYI this is actually called "stotting" and is very common in the antelope family. Quite a lot of the deer family species do this as well. I always love watching the antelope on the nature shows stotting along, it always gives me a good chuckle so I too am looking forward to seeing the video.

I wonder what Virgil Tiberius and his little girl Dawn Eline would do when faced with lambs, especially stotting lambs???? :lmt:

Thanks and Cheers

Carl

:sidestep: (without the stotting)
The word stotting isn't at all cute, I say we stick with sproinging
Waiting to see those sproinging babies :excited:
I think it's called pronging in some countries.
But I like sproinging best too. :D
More lambs :D

Todd just updated me here at work. Another set of twins, one of each this time.

So 3 moms, 5 lambs so far...... :cheer:

PS - Todd calls it pronging as well. 8) I'll tell him he'd make a good Aussie.
:cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: How exciting!!!! :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:

Dawn: Do you name the lambs?????
tapping fingers.... tapping fingers....

Not usually, unless they are unique in some way. Behavior, looks, etc.
The ewes we keep often get names, but right now we have 10 or more that are virtual clones.... 8O The other half are at least distinguishable from each other!

I'm at WORK!!!

I'll cheat - here are Speck's babies from last year....she is still one of the pregnant ones this year...

Will that tide you over another day?? :sidestep:
Are twin births common in ewes? And does mamma have a harder time with twins than with a singleton? And a few years ago didn't you have a black lamb that was Chewie's buddy?
Yes, twins are most common. Probably 80-90% twin rate for us. Then singles, then triplets.
It is usually the young ewes that have a single their 1st time. And that's not as good as it sounds - as a singleton is usually a larger lamb than a twin.

No new lambs this morning. I'll go out and take pictures after Todd comes in from chores....someone has to stay in the house with William and Norah!

Is that wrong?? 8)
^^^

I love lambs. Growing up we had friends that had a sheep farm. We always knew which lambs she would keep and which would...well...you know. The ones she kept were the ones that the ewe couldn't take of. She'd keep them in the laundry room and bottle feed them. It was always fun going over there, we even went ram riding!
