Okay, in Edmonton we have mild winters lately, and we keep Remy indoors. But I am getting asked about their lives as an outside dog, in cold climates like Yellowknife.

So is okay for this breed to live their...or should that person stick to husky/st benards kinda dogs? If a sheepie gets wet in Yellowknife and doesn't have a heated house to warm up....who would do better staying warm a sheepie or a husky?

How weather proof is a sheepie coat?
In my opinion an oes shouldn't be an outside dog at all, they love their people too much, but aside from that, no, I do not think an oes can withstand those kinds of temperatures. I'd say they should stick with breeds adapted and acclimated to that kind of climate.
Thanks, that's what I think too. I was also thinking that when we have snow, and she is wet then dry...I have tiny little matts on her feet, and legs. And it takes along time to dry a full coat.

I just get alot of questions when I go to the dog park, or anywhere I have her with me. People know they were originally meant for living outside with sheep...so they think they can live out there 24/7. I just didn't know how to tactfully say they are wrong.

It helps having a second opinion. I just know from having Remy, she ejoys being outside, but not as much as being with me. Now if I could sleep outside she would love that....during the summer months...not winter. And from what I've read about Yellowknife it's a dry cold like here, but last alot longer, and gets alot colder. I'll just tell the Yellowknife family, they should consider another breed.

I'd love to visit in the summer months, it has some interesting things to see.
