People hair vent: Bangs

I bit the bullet and got my hair cut off. Well, it wasn't hard since it has been breaking off at an alarming rate. I wear my hair pulled back from my face, most recently just kept back with combs, the rest to fall behind.

Well anyway, no matter how I requested my hair to be cut they insisted on bangs. I hate hair in my face, touching my face, etc. They said my forhead was too tall. I finally consented to some sideswept bangs....yuck. (at least they will be long enough to comb back soon!)

Why do we need bangs ladies? Guys don't. Between thick glasses and a fat face I think the extra skin up top elongates the face, maybe reducing the chubbiness. Perhaps too many years of my mother's anti-bang campaign and long hair parted down the middle.....think 1960's has colored my "glasses."

You really should post pics ...but I'm sure you were expecting that comment to come. How can we really understand what you're talking about w/o one??!?!

I have the biggest head ...which also means forehead in the world, and I don't do bangs. I DID do bangs for the first 17 years of my life. I thought I HAD to have them b/c I was so embarrassed I had a big forehead, but I think it made it worse. It did take me awhile to get used to my "new look" but I'd never do bangs again. BECAUSE of this experience, I notice girls who "shouldn't" have bangs a lot more now. Some people look great with them though!
Im working on growing out my bangs right now. Ugh! the in-between look is really, really bad!

Ive had bangs for years, and when I first had then cut in, everyone said they made me look MUCH younger...so hey, who's going to argue with THAT kind of positive feedback??? 8) I have never seen why this should be so, however :? .

Now, though, between the fact that my gray hair is coming in like twisty little wires, and having frequent hives/swelling on my face (yes... :( still!) Ive joined you in the *cant stand hair in my face* camp.

Bobby pins are now a staple of my hair styling routine

Good luck with the grow-out! :high5:
I haven't had bangs since my paternal grandmother took it upon herself to take me to her little old lady hairdresser when I was two-three years old and they apparently put a bowl on my head and cut around it. Talk about chubby cheeked and good grief. It was not a good look for me or anyone for that matter.

I haven't had bangs, or short hair, since. I can't exactly remember the fallout that must have ensued when I was returned to my mother, but I imagine her fury at my grandmother's boldness probably helped shape my hair dresser phobia :sidestep:

Fortunately I was born in the sixties so the long, straight hair with a part worked just fine and I haven't wavered yet.

And I still won't go to a hairdresser. I just realized that Sunny and I are both going to the Chicagoland specialty and when she mentioned that a friend had asked her to trim her dog for her I remembered that I was badly in need of a trim myself so she's penciled me in between getting dogs ready for the ring    8)

Oh, and I have a high forehead too. It's necessary to make room for an above average sized brain, which I refuse to either apologize for or hide. It is what it is.

Kristine
I am with you on this. I am trying to grow my hair out so that it is not constantly in my face. I wish I had never cut it. I look like Mady without her hair up.
I've never been able to wear bangs because I have a collick (widows peak) at the front of my hair, so bangs would never lay down. I always wanted to wear bangs as a kid, all three of my sisters could, and two still do. :D

I think most women who wear bangs do so because the bangs bring attention to the eyes. What I've noticed, however, as some women get older they seem to grow their bangs right into their eyes, which doesn't hide the aging of their face, which I think is what they are trying to do, only seems to emphasis it. Kinda like the infamous "comb over" that guys like to do. I've only really noticed the bang thingy because I've become very conscience of my own aging. :D

Anyway, most people who wear bangs look very nice with them.
to all us big headed (imagine buying a hat that fits 8O ....and being married to a guy with a size 8 head.....and you ask why I didn't have kids  ) unite!!

I tried on wigs and the lady sighed, "We could have one special made for your head size." I wish is was to hold more brain......

Thank you for your support......as for a pix, go to my file, find me, add 40+ years and about 80 lbs and make that hair platinum blonde/color of the month.
I definitely look better with a fringe (that's what we call bangs here in Aus).

This is a pic of my sister (the one in the middle) and I. Even though she is heavier than I am she has a very similiar shaped face to mine and I think my face looks better, I have the same forehead as hers. She must disagree however so it's probably a matter of taste. Although I do remember reading something about proportions and face shapes to decide if you should have bangs or not. My Mom wouldn't let us have bangs when we were kids because she hated trimming them and couldn't afford to take us to the hairdressers to have them trimmed.

Looking at the pic I agree that the bangs seem to accentuate my eyes. The bangs are actually a bit too long in this pic but I was on vacation and couldn't get to a hairdresser. I'm just about getting to old for long hair and probably bangs too so I'm going to have to figure out what to do for a new look soon.
Hahaha, you girls are so funny with much truth among you.

I love my bangs, they are the camo in which the forehead furrows can hide. The older I become, the longer the bang. In a few years, I'll be one of those owners who looks like her pet!!!

That said, I'd say whatever is the most agreeable and pleasing to you. What does it really matter? We sacrifice enough to be a woman sometimes..
Side swept bangs are cute. Same with the straigtened, straight bangs that go across your forhead right at your eye brow line.

As long as you arent curling them at the bottom toward your forhead or fluffing them up (ick, so 80's and 90's) bangs are fine.
My bangs hide my forehead wrinkles....At least thats what I like to think.
I just had to add to this one...even though it's late and my alarm will be going off in 6 hours :x

I like bangs, but I am very picky about them. I absolutely hate long, heavy, blunt bangs (like the Beatles 8) )
I have super thick hair, and had them a time too often as a kid at the mercy of my mom's scissoring ability. I think they are masculine looking, and a person needs to have the right face and build to carry them off well.

For me, a wispier look gets the #1 vote, then no bangs, and dead last a straight heavy bang.
I cut bangs in a couple months ago and absolutely hate them. I can't stand hair touching my face so they've gotta go!
My hair grows really fast though so I think another 6-8 weeks and they'll be long enough to go into a pony tail.
