Anyone know about the Havanese Breed

I am a now a 'glam-maamaa"! My daughter has a new little Havanese Puppy. After fostering several different breeds--she finally decided to get a puppy of her own. She really wants and OES but her space is limited and she has roommates so she decided to go with a smaller breed for now. I am not really familiar with this breed but thought some of you might be.

His name is Neyland and so far he has been a joy!

There are 5 Havanese in my extended family (belonging to 2 different aunts, one with 2 Havanese and one with 3)

They are all really sweet natured little dogs! Personality wise, they remind me of Llasos Apsos(pardon my bad spelling)...reasonably calm, attention loving and cuddly. If I ever get a little dog, these guys would be high on my list.

Congrats on the grandpuppy! :hearts: :yay:
I think Sunny has one.............
Love the name and he looks like a complete sweetie!!!

They were high up on my list too and there's nothing about their personality that I didn't like. :)

Congrats to her!!!!!! :yay:
I don't know much about the breed in general, but my inlaws have one, and she's really sweet. Her name is Katie and she wears a pink snowsuit all winter, but despite her upright Mommy's taste in doggy clothes, she's still pretty awesome.

Although, my husband who is a die hard OES daddy does still feel the need to describe her as a slipper.

Hudson loves playing with cousin Katie, and she whips him into shape in no uncertain terms.
They are fun dogs.
I have a few experienced dog friends who did sports with larger working breed dogs who have now downsized to havanese in their OLDER age 8)
They really enjoy their havanese, as they don't act like "little dogs". :cheer:
And way better than a lhasa apso or a shih tzu.
Congratulations on Neyland , he sure is cute :hearts:
Thanks so much for the input. She did a lot of research but was not successful in finding anyone she knew that had a Havanese-so I told her I would post and would probably get some good information so keep it coming.
She was very uncertain about a small breed but liked what she read about them and had an opportunity to get a puppy so she went for it. He does seem like a laid-back little cuddlebug :hearts: but he is still very young.
She is hoping that he really is a 'big' dog in a little body :D :D
We spent last night visiting folks who are getting an OES and they also have a Havanese. It was great to see her and Mady interact. She is 10 years old and was great considering this big 17 month old stranger puppy came leaping into her domain. She was very snuggly and adorable and I quite easily could have scooped her up and taken her home. They had also had a Bouvier who passed away and they said that the two dogs got along well. There was also a Havanese at an agility drop in class that we attended. It was cute too and did well at agility.
My next door neighbor has four Havanese, and our neighbor down the street (who recently moved) has three. All active, friendly, and sweet. As a breed, great temperament. Poor Oscar would get swarmed when he walked past their houses.....

Tracie, I loved your husband's description of a Havanese as "a slipper". We are BIG DOG SNOBS!!!!

Laurie and Oscar
I personally love the Havense breed. A friend of mine has three and they are all in obedience and agility and getting titles and doing well.

Congrads on your new grand doggys!
I think they are great dogs. I have done quite a bit of research into them and spoken to a number of breeders. They were one of the three breeds I narrowed it down to and considered when thinking of adding a 3rd & this time, smaller dog, to our home. Congrats on your new grand-puppy!! :cheer:
Love the Havenese! Wonderful and smart. Would have one but I am a Shih Tzu girl (for my little dogs).
I have a 3 year old havanese female. She is very busy and rarely slows down. Keeps up with our big dogs just fine. Our girl is pushy and dominant but not aggressive . This breed can be lap dogs but prefer to be active and love to play. A bit delicate for young kids as our girl is 9 lbs . Lots of fun and very smart and trainable .
