My baby girl in the hospital

We took Mady to the vets yesterday, she was extremely urgent about going out in the morning, at least an hour earlier than she usually goes out, and had diarrhea. That alone didn't worry me too much, but at lunch time she had even worse diarrhea and there was some blood in it, so off to the vet. She is eating her food and otherwise seemed pretty normal. The vet put her on some antibiotics and she is on a strict easy-on-the-stomach food. This morning however, she threw up (on our bed of course  ) and there was no kibble but what looked like some toy-stuffing. The vet had asked us to call back with a followup anyway, and the throw up with the stuffing combined with the diarrhea made her worry a bit and (knowing the kind of dog owners we are) asked us to bring her in to stay at the vets today and she will be getting a barium x-ray just in case.

She's probably fine, but we're still worried sick.

It's good that she's being monitored so closely, intestinal obstructions can be scary! You'd be amazed what they CAN pass though, one way or the other  I have a pic of a giant hairball Panda barfed up yesterday. It's gross and I'm amazed it came out, but I promptly shaved her down just to be on the safe side. I also keep cat hairball remedy around just in case.....

Oh no... how scary!!!! :( I hope the x-ray doesn't show any obstructions or something worse and it's just a bug that will pass!!! Poor thing. Hope your girl gets to come home soon. :ghug:
Fingers crossed for Mady's quick healing :hearts: :hearts:

It is so hard since they can't tell you what is wrong :ghug: :ghug:
HUGS to all of you!!!

I am so sorry!!!

Please keep us posted on sweet Mady!!! :ghug: :ghug: :ghug:
Sending healing vibes to Mady. I'd be worried sick too, glad Mady is in good hands right now.

Keep us posted.

Fingers crossed it passes quickly and easily.

But in the event that it anything more serious, you've done exactly the right thing. By having her at the vet they can intervene if needed, at a time when minutes can count. I've been there with Rudy. He went through the worst, and it was the vets running him right into the OR that allowed him to be okay.

I'm sure it's nothing like that with Mady, but it's good to know that if she needs anything at all, she's in the place where she can get it.

Let us know when there's news. Fingers and paws are crossed for you here.
You're doing all the right things, and she's in the best place for the help she needs. All you can do now is keep your fingers crossed that things pass quickly.

Don't forget to check around to see if the half-stuffed toy is still available. You don't want her tempted again when she gets home.

Sending good energy to Mady!

:ghug:
Poor Mady and you!!!! Keeping our fingers and paws crossed here that everything is okay and you get to bring her home tonight!
Sending a big hug to all of you....I know its going to be a very long day for Kim and you! :ghug:
Oh, poor Mady. I am so sorry. :ghug: to you, she'll be in my thoughts today.
Hope not an obstruction, but classic symptoms. May whatever pass back out......in any natural direction.
Fingers crossed for Miss Mady...

As the former owner of habitual "eating what he shouldn't have" dog (RIP Biggie), those are the signs that would always strike fear in me.
Hoping all is well and you can update soon. :ghug:
Saying prayers for Mady and all of you. Fingers and paws crossed.
Hugs and kisses from Nancy, Abbey, Gracie and Oliver
I know how worried you and Kim are but at least she is in the right place. Keep us posted please.

I guess so far we've been lucky with Butch, he tears his toys up but so far leaves the stuffing for us to clean up. We do have to watch him tho because everything still goes in the mouth.
i am sure Mady will be ok :plead: Thinking about you, Kim and sweet, sweet Mady :ghug:
Fingers crossed for you and Mady :crossed: :crossed:

Hugs too!! :ghug:
Oh No :(

I just logged on today....I hope things are going OK. Any updates???
Hope Maddie is ok. Please keep us posted. :crossed:
:lmt: :lmt: :lmt: :lmt:

David...have you heard anything yet??? I can't stop thinking about her...and you and Kim, of course... :ghug:
So far good news. The vet has run several barium x-rays and has found nothing so far, she wanted to do the last one at 3 p.m. so still waiting to hear about that one. So I'm hoping whatever she may have eaten she threw up this morning (on our bed!) :crossed: :crossed: :crossed: :crossed: And I still don't know whether this happening and the diarrhea is a coincidence or related. I miss my baby girl (more than usual). :|
I hope all is well with your sweet little Mady and she is home with you soon!
Glad to hear things are looking up. We'll keep our fingers and paws crossed just a little longer.

Once she comes home, continue to keep an eye. Some things are too soft to show on a barium series, and you don't want to let your guard down until you are sure things are moving properly. (I don't want to scare you, just a suggestion to be extra careful.)
Good news no blockage :clappurple: OK, now you have a tender tummy pup who will have to be on special food for awhile........She probably hasn't eaten since her throwing up on your bed. It takes at least 24 hours for the tummy to settle down during which NO FOOD.

Hope she returns home soon and recovers quickly. No more eating toy guts!
Thinking of you guys! Poor sweetie... Glad it's good news so far. Hoping for the best! :crossed:
Oh nooooo.....I just read this.....it was painful reading through the two pages of posts......hoping for good news......

Please keep me posted. Hugs to all three of you. :ghug:
It does sound good that nothings shown up on the x-rays.
Hoping she's gotten rid of what was causing the problem
and that you're sweet baby will be her ol' self again soon.
Oh my. Just logged on and read through the posts--glad the news is good so far. Special thoughts for all of you! :ghug:
Oh poor baby girl! hope she is feeling better.
why do they always throw up on beds or sofas!
Paws crossed for more good news! lots of sheepie kisses to you!
My baby is home. The vet said there was nothing left inside her, she probably did poop/throw it all up, which is great, but there were some signs of irritation from whatever it was. She should be ok. She had a good poop on the walk home and even ran into some friends for a bit of play. :hearts: :hearts: :hearts: :hearts:

Thank you for your thoughts.
:clappurple: :clappurple: Wonderful!! :clappurple: :clappurple:

Glad you got good news. Too scary. :plead: :hearts: :clappurple:
What a long long day. I am so happy she is back home and that there was no serious damage. A few things happened today to remind me just how much we love this girl of ours. This morning she threw up on every part of our bed that she could. Feather comforters and pillows. And we didn't care. Not one bit (although I am curious as to why dogs seem to throw up on soft stuff and not on washable floors  ). And then we spent $900 at the vet, and again, I don't care because I am just so happy that she is well. I had to close off my mind all day to the thought of them having to operate, or worse. David dropped us off part way home from the vet and we walked a bit in the sunshine and I could have cried I was so happy.

I still don't know where she got the stuffing from, so I will be inspecting all of her toys. Thank you all for the kind messages-it helped knowing we had our sheepie friends out there! :ghug:
I am so happy that all is OK.

Now a nice non-irritating diet for a day or two! Just not stuffing soft, please!
Glad Mady is ok! :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:

Georgie was scared she was not going to make the play date tour! 8)
So happy that Mady is home! You guys did the right thing, I would have had her at the vet in a heartbeat too. Big hugs to Mady!
I am glad Mady is okay. That can be so scary when your baby is sick.

Some nice quiet time is in order for all three of you.
I missed the whole trauma! That thread was like reading a suspense best seller that I couldn't put down :phew:
Thank goodness Mady is okay and doing well. Definitely a nice glass of wine without Mady's cheese tonight. :ghug:
WOW what a time, glad your little possum is OK and check those stuffies and make sure no holes for her to de-fluff them.

Syd does that and every now and then I have to go through the toy box and check, if there is a split in one, either a repair or sending the stuffie to stuffie heaven, he loves to pluck the stuffing out and we have had interesting poos, that and toppy knots is his forte!!! I worry about a blockage too and can so easily happen without us realising what the little Sh**ts have gotten up too (Ooops meant darlings     )

Soft diet mady but that does not include Stuffie stuffing, feel better soon possum.
I just caught up on this news tonight and glad to hear all is okay now :yay:

You are EXCEPTIONAL parents! It was so smart of you to get her to the Vet. Even if all her tests came back negative, they probably kept her on fluids which is so important.

Inspect all her toys. Sometimes its a little hole and the stuffing came out. We inspect toys on a regular basis for small tears or holes that might cause a problem.

Hope Mady continues to improve. Ad I hear you on the money doesn't matter as long as tour babies are okay. But, you might want to look at pet insurance. They would have reimbursed you most of that 900 bucks...
:yay: :yay: :yay: :yay: :phew: :phew: :phew: :phew:

Lots of love, cuddling and more love...That is what you ALL need right now!!! I am so happy that Mady is home !!!!

Keep us posted ~~~ :ghug: :ghug: :ghug: :ghug:
Sleep well tonight, Kim, David and Mady too. I am sure it was a very stressful day for all three of you. Glad your girl is home and is healthy.

night, night,

peg
So glad she's OK. :clappurple: Sounds like you're all exhausted - here's hoping for a good night's sleep for everyone!
Wow I'm just coming across this thread. Poor Mady. So glad she is well. Give hugs to Mady from Mattie and Frankie.

Lisa Frankie and Mattie
Yeah!! :yay: So glad all is well with Mady! Tough day but a great outcome! Lots of hugs and kisses for Mady tonight!
Wow I missed all this.
I'm so glad Mady is ok. The good thing about missing it is I didn't have to spend the day worrying if everything was ok like you guys.
Take care Mady.
Hope all three of you got a good nights sleep!!!! How is Mady this morning??
We just had the best snuggle EVER. Yes, we will be late for work but it was worth it. This weekend we are doing a big spring cleanup at home. Mady doesn't tend to be the kind of dog that chews or eats stuff she shouldn't and I think that we got complacent about things. As for the toy, it was the smallest little hole but I could see that some stuffing had been pulled out. How can something so soft do damage?
So happy Mady in on the mend~~~~~ :clappurple: :clappurple: :clappurple:
Happy to read she is doing better!
I am so glad Mady is okay . :yay:
:phew:

Glad all is well.

I never got on here yesterday and missed the whole thing :phew: I would have spent hours and hours hoping that everything was ok.
SOOoooo???

How is sweet Mady today????? and how are 'mom' and 'dad'??????

She is her old self, except for kind of weird barium poops. She played hard with a German Shepherd last night and was so very bouncy it made us all giggle. I had been thinking we should cancel our pet insurance and this has made me realize that it does come in handy at times! I do think that Mady is wondering why we are all over her with hugs and snuggles. I think that we should get her a puppy as a present, to celebrate her recovery!
Kim~~What an EXCELLENT idea!!!!! :cheer: :cheer: :yay: :yay: :excited: :excited: :cheer:

I promise not to tell David ~~~~YOU can TRUST ME~~ :crossed: :crossed: :crossed:
