Dark spots on Rudy

We're in the process of shaving Rudy (our rescue) down again. His fur seems a fairly even grey, but when you shave him down he looks like a washed out dalmation. Lots of white with grey spots all over.

But...he has several (six so far) irregularly shaped areas where the skin is nearly black...sides of his back legs, along his ribs, etc. One in particular is quite large, about four and a half to five inches long.

With all our sheepies, whenever they had a cut or a surgery the healed area always grew back darker (assuming it was in a grey area). I always thought of it as a roadmap of their owies throughout their lives.

I know Rudy was a rescue, and that he'd spent time on the streets. I'm guessing that these may be the scars of his wandering days...or possibly marks from run ins with other animals...which could definitely explain his attitude toward other dogs when we're on walks. I was just wondering, though, if I could be reading way too much into this. Do some sheepies just have these marks naturally?

I think the one that's really bothering me is the biggest one along his side. If it is from an injury that had to be a pretty big gash at one time, and that makes me sad. I know he's fine now, and (as Cesar says) living in the now, but it still makes me wonder...which always means an extra cookie for him (and by default for Hudson too) so neither really minds when I get silly like this.

From my limited experience with two OES, it seems to me that the dark spots indicate skin trauma, but not necessarily anything overtly "traumatic". In addition to surgical sites, Quincy and Oscar both grew black spots where they'd had seborrhea or a simple skin infection. Oscar has two really dark patches on his butt right now, which have never bothered him. When I looked at the skin underneath, it was flaky - seborrhea. I hit it with Sebolux shampoo once or twice, and the roots are growing in light gray.

I'm sure Hudson doesn't begrudge Rudy an extra snack or two..... :D

Oh no, since I have this insane need to keep things balanced, any snack that Rudy gets results in Hudson getting one too....he strongly encourages that!
^^^^^^^ :D I'll bet Hudson strongly encourages that!!! :D
