picky eater

Hi,

I have so many questions about my pup. She's just been spayed about 6 days ago. She had an adverse reaction to the anesthetic. We've been through pain shot, nausea shot, and explosive diarrhea for 5 days. Finally brought her back for more meds and she is almost back to normal. My problem is that after many days of hamburger and rice she is only taking about 1/4 cup of food per feeding(I feed her twice a day because she is under weight). Plum only weighed 50 lbs when she came too live with us. Now she is(was) 60 lbs about a month later. We don't know what food she ate before she came to us so I've through about 3 types of food already. She gets really excited to eat and then looks in her bowl as if to say "what the heck is this swill??" Then relucantly eats it. Now after her steady diet of hamburger and rice her appetite or picky behavior is worse. I give her treats throughout the day(her fave!!) But I don't want to ruin her dinner. She is now on Taste of the Wild bison flavor. Does anyone have any feeding or food suggestions? The hamburger and rice diet is becomming time consuming and expensive. My kids are starting to complain I cook more for the dog lately

How about some plain chicken stock (Broth) on the dry food? Or beef broth? I have used just the canned stuff in the past. It adds a little flavor and soften's the dry food a little.
Maybe add a little cottage cheese, shredded cheese or canned pumpkin as a flavor enhancer? Not sure if she would like it, but, it may be worth a shot of you have it at home.
How about filling a kong with a mix of her dry food, treats and peanut butter? Maybe this will entice her to eat it all? I don't know. I am just trying to give you things that I have tried in the past.
I hope she starts eating regularly soon!
You need to transition her off the beef and rice. Few dogs will readily jump back to kibble after the good life.

Start mixing in dry food in place of some beef. I try for 1/4 cup dry at each feed. Life isn't fair, but ground beef and rice don't have all the nutrients she needs.
