I surrender!!!!!

I just tried grooming Pearl and, although she did not fight me, or try to nip, every time I dragged the slicker through her hair, she shook. I have to admit, I have not been the greatest at grooming her in the last couple of weeks. She has some mats and needs a bath.

I have decided the best, kindest thing to do is to shave her down. I am not happy about this. For most of her life, Pearl has had a beautiful long full coat. I feel like I am claiming defeat.

But, I am hoping that she will be much more comfortable with the summer months approaching... :crossed: :crossed: :crossed: :crossed:

This is not a defeat!! This is a loving gesture to a dear old friend. Plus, sheepies are gorgeous full coated, puppy cut, or shaved down. They are just cute no matter what and Pearl will be just as adorable. I can't wait to meet her and give her a cuddle.
You'll love the velvety feel of Pearl once she is shaved down. It will be fun to see if she bounces like a pup again.

Its the absolute worst feeling when they shake as you drag a brush through their hair.

Simon did that last time I brushed him. I felt like the most horrid person.
What'd I tell you, Val? Remember......thin skin. See if she is matted if they can shave her with a 7 blade. It will take it a bit closer than a 3-3/4 blade but it will get under the mats. No sense in making her go thru a dematting only to shave it all off. In 6 weeks you'll be loving how she looks. And feeling better about what you did for her. :)
Thanks everyone...I am planning on shaving everything...including her face, ears..she will be skinned!!!!!  But I know she will feel better...and therefore...I WILL FEEL BETTER TOO!!!!!!
I was heartsick the first time I had Henry shaved. . . This year, I am looking forward to getting my hands on his velvety sleek little body. I can't wait to see pictures!
I had Caly 'clipped' shorter. not quite shaved. She didn't come home embarrassed, I had a T shirt all ready for her to wear, however she was
P I S S E D O F F to put it mildly. I guess i shall let it grow back out............

Pearl will love being clipped down. It will be easier on both her & you. She'll be way more comfortable with short hair.

I sure hope so!!!!!! :crossed: :crossed: :crossed: :crossed:

I made her appointment for Thursday so expect pictures that evening!!!

And I will ask Joey for one of Leo's old sweatshirts in case she gets cold, thanks for the idea, Ali~~
It's not defeat... it's just life. I HATE to shave a dog down when they have a nice, longer coat. I'm not kidding when
I say I have to force myself to make that first pass with the clipper. But when they're all done and I see how
they're no longer panting, drooling, seeking out cool places to lie down, can play outside longer AND like to snuggle
again, I think it's all worth it. Less grooming time too, they dry faster... and, here anyway, they run around like loons
enjoying their nakedness.

Hoping you'll share a picture! :D
I bet Pearl will be a happy camper once she is used to her new look.

Oscar is shaved year round, mostly because his multiple health issues require so much intervention on my part, that the longer the hair, the more torture I have to put him through. (I bathe him fully every 7 - 10 days, and partially every day or every other day - paws, face, butt, "undercarriage".) More hair just means longer rinse and dry times for him, which amps up his anxiety level, which can lead to an IBD flare-up......a vicious cycle that I do my very best to avoid.

In your neck of the woods, looks like it's been "toasty" lately, and only going to get "toastier". :) (Up here in the hinterlands of northern Illinois, we are expecting rain/snow over the next couple of days.) Pearl might enjoy taking off her fur coat heading into spring/summer.

  Happy Grooming Pearl!
