Possible Urinary Infection? or WTF

Hey Guys,

Let me explain the situation Buffy has been acting weird for about 4-5days since I cleaned up her vulva of hair it was all stuck together and hard i took it all of very carefully did see some white discharge very little cleaned it all up but what got me to look there was that shes keeps trying to reach down-there while she walks like something is bothering her down there or poking her something is causing her discomfort.

Yesterday my wife asked me if I smell a finny scent coming of her behind i check and yes there was a little smell I cleaned it all up with a baby-wipe noticed that she has a fold on her vulva but nothing is swollen and no discharge, no blood... but shes keeps acting funny when she walks like something is biting her and she keeps turning and spinning and eventually sits down and looks up at me were so worried!

Took her to the vet today explained everything they shaved her down found nothing told me that possibly the tail bud got her irritated which I thought was the dumbest thing i ever herd from the doctor he gave her 2 shots in the back side 1 anti inflammatory and 1 antibiotic second 1 he stuck is very unprofessional the dog yelpt and cried out as we were coming out she was spinning and trying to sit down out of control ran home.

Now shes home not even getting up and if she does shes tries to reach to her behind and sits down i don't understand whats going on?? possible the doctor put the needle to deep ? damaged something? or this is a bad urinary infection case? Ahh

Did they check her anal glands?
Does she scoot?
Was it a "fishy" smell?
Sorry for all the questions, just wondering?
As Kathy said. ^^
Full or infected/impacted anal glands can cause discomfort. Licking, scooting, the dog may even snap at their fanny. I'd have them checked to be sure they don't need to be expressed.

I'm wondering if they might have shaved her down too close. If you shave the vulva hair with the wrong blade, the dog will sit down real quick... sometimes take a few steps and sit quickly, lick, maybe scoot. Did you try to wash her down, maybe apply a little baby powder?

If they didn't find any irritation or infection, I wonder why they gave her 2 shots? If she isn't any better tomorrow, you might get a second opinion.

The doctor check the glands if they need to be expressed he said they look fine so i take it they don't need to be squeezed this is the first time i hear about this problem... but shes laying down now if she gets up she instantly runs almost and then sits and lays down breathing really fast... she scoots she spins she turns everything snaps and her fanny she cant even reach there to show us where it hurts :( were so worried I guess doctor gave her the shots as a precaution i hope she feels better by tomorrow we just put a lot of baby powder in the area she seems to fall asleep now poor baby :( Thanks guys!
Oh, don't worry too much...if she was shaved close it is irritating!
I was shaving down Finn yesterday in
"those areas"..even though he is neutered you would have thought
I took it all away from him again!
He ran around and scrubbed every part of his body on everything!
I bet she will feel fine in a few days!
Good Luck!
I am going through a UTI with my female dog, age 2 years. I feel your pain!

If they shaved her down too close, it does feel wierd and can be a bit itchy and annoying to the dog. Some ointment, like bactricin or a anti itch, maybe monistat, can help the itching. I got something from the vet called Dermacool, spray. helps with inflamation and itching. Is she peeing more than normal? Peeing in the house when she usually doesn't? Attempting to pee and stopping? Looks like she is straining to pee?

I never noticed blood in my dogs urine but I wipe her with an antibacterail wipe and saw tiny specks of blood. Took a urine sample to the vet and found out it was a UTI. She is on antibiotics now...second round as the first did not seem to work...

Hope your baby feels better soon....
hey guys,

shes fine now all good and happy antibiotics worked and shes back to normal no spinning or sitting down but her tong and gum's become a bit pale is this something to worry about? other wise shes happy and hungry is she missing some type of vitamin?
The color of a dog's gums vary from dog to dog. The color also changes on a single dog throughout the day, depending upon activity level. A dog's gums will be a lighter pink when they just wake up, as opposed to when they have been active.

Keeping that in mind, pale gums can be a sign of anemia, which can be caused by many things, including dehydration, internal bleeding, or a blood disorder. If she's been on oral antibiotics, it might be causing bleeding ulcers in her digestive system.

Since she is acting normally otherwise, I would call the vet to see if this warrants a visit.

My little male Buzzy has exactly the same symptoms. I thought it was anal glands but now I think it's an infection since you said the antibiotics seemed to work. He has been on antibiotics for a grass seed infection and maybe he needs more? Anyway did you end up finding out anything more about it because I have noticed these symptoms over the years in the past also.
