Peeing in his Crate

Hello, I am new her and have been a OES owner for 14 years. We just lost our Isabelle the day after Christmas with what we believe was a stroke. It was the first time I ever had to put down an animal. Very sad!!! My 6 year old OES (Lizzy) was so sad and wouldn't eat a full meal for 10 days.

WE got a beautiful puppy (Bentley) my first time with a male 12 days ago. He is doing great with using the potty out side and has an occasional accident inside. He is making it 8 hours through the night in his crate by our bed, but when we leave him for 2 hours in his crate during the day he always pees in it. I don't know what to do. Thoughts anyone??

Welcome.
We had a heck of a time with our male Frankie in his crate. We would leave around 9 am and the dog walker would get there around noon. The crate would be wet. We found that Frankie had a UTI. I was told it's not very common in male dogs, but the tested him anyway. It was a continuous battle for quite awhile. I never thought he would get potty trained. It's a thought. Good luck with your new baby.

2 hours might just be pushing it for him during the day. He's awake and moving around rather than sleeping at night so he may be more apt to go. Usually, they can only hold it for as many hours as their age in months (plus or minus one depending) so he may just be one of those dogs who doesn't hold it long yet.

Is the crate made as small as it can be for his size? During the potty training stage, it really only needs to be big enough for the dog to stretch out and get up and turn around. if you give them extra space, they'll pee in it!
Thank you for your comments. The breeder suggested I get his urine tested for a UTI. Yes we have an expandable crate and it is sized just for him to be able to lay down and turn around. There are only a few toys in it and no blankets. I'm going to get a sample tomorrow morning and take it to the vet.
