Guessing Game: OES Nail Grinding "Accessory"

So... here's my invention for Old English Sheepdogs and shaggy dogs and
I'm sharing it with the world for free! <snort> 8)

PURPOSE: To hold back the foot hair while grinding nails.
MATERIAL: It's made from a relatively cheap product already on the market.
QUESTION: What is that product?

 My hands were so dry when I photographed this. We had Bumble
down to MSU to see the dermatologist so I can again use hand cream!!
Jim's and my poor hands have suffered this winter because we have them
in water so much.

Is it one of those jar openers? Probably not.
That might work too! :D

That was my guess, too.

OK, guess #2: Some sort of a liner for canning?

I did test it on a new jar of pickles and it works well!
It likely would have several "creative" uses.

Interesting! Buuuut... not a canning product.

Want a hint?
A really, really thin slice of salami? :excited:
I'd have said dental dam except they're square and thinner.
Come on 'fess up.
Is it a circle cut from an artificial chamois? I use the rubbery kind sold for drying cars both for dog-bathing and papermaking.

My other guess was going to be a piece of sandpaper from an orbital grinder, but it looks too rubber-like for that.

My dogs are voting enthusiastically for Gigi's salami version!

Ah... noooo. Can you imagine how many slices of salami you'd go through every time
you ground nails!? 8) If we put it to a vote, I'm sure all the dogs would LOVE you're idea!

Now I've got to look up what a dental dam is!!
Oh, my... Wikipedia has a scary one! THAT would
probably work great too! :D

Ooook... here's some hints...
The local dollar store has them for a buck (hence the name of the store )
They can also be found in the toy section of stores.
It's a gag gift. :P

I wonder if that would work too? :lmt:
Probably just about anything would work as long as it held
the hair back and wouldn't get twisted up in the grinder.
A whoopee cushion???

Whatever it is, it really looks like it hold back the fur great.

peg
My vote is a Whoopee Cushion too, now that could be interesting grinding the nails and having all sorts of noises happening while grinding away. :twitch:

Blame the dog then

What-ever it is great device to keep the hair back from the nail :yay:

The Whoopee Cushion... The Poo-Poo Cushion 8O  ... The Raspberry Cushion... And the world's largest- "The Big Ripper".

That is a great use for a whoopee cushion. But HOW did you think of using it for the nails???

peg
 Yeah, like I'm going to buy a "fart bag" Whoopee Cushion, let alone several of them. I'll stick with the jar openers.....but also need a Dremel.

With several dogs, I do a lot of nails. I got to thinking it would be nice to have something to hold the hair on the toes away from the grinder disk/drum. The material needed to be lightweight, pliable... something that would conform to different size nails so it needed to be somewhat elastic. Something that could quickly be put on and taken off. I had one in the drawer (it was a gag gift I never sent out), I tried it and it worked for me. :D

Kobuck's velcro-raingear/oilcloth-potty-pants were another thing I made to make things easier.
(But I'd probably put "feet" in them if I had to continue to use them).

Oh, Susan... have you no sense of adventure!?
The jar opener may be a thicker material (the one I have is) but I'd think it will work fine too. Anything with rubber that will hold back the hair and conform to the nail. They probably sell something like it at the fabric store too... rubber-something... rubber sheeting maybe? You probably just need it thick enough so it won't twist up in the grinder shaft.
Really? Was the answer a whoopie cushion??? I didn't think anyone even had them anymore! Ha ha...

I think it was Ron who once posted about using a cut off nylon stocking...Cut the toes out of a nylone and put it on the dogs paws and it will keep the hair back from the nails...
You're very resourceful and creative using a gag gift! I wish my mind worked that way.

Not my idea at all... but a great one!

Besides, sheepies look great in nylons.
