Looking for a Mesothelioma attorney

No I'm not looking for a Mesothelioma Attorney, I just want to vent for a minute.

I did find a good website that has good definitions of just what Mesothelioma is, what causes it and maybe even resources on what to do if you're diagnosed with this horrible disease. The website's name is Meso What?. www.mesowhat.com

I can't believe all of the television commercials from different attorneys looking for patients or family members of patients who had mesothelioma.

This is a rare disease, generally thought to be caused by inhalation of asbestos particles.

All of these personal injury lawyers -- are they providing a needed service to the community as a whole, keeping us more safe from badly designed products, or are their activites bad as a whole.

Or... who can tell?

What do you think?
I think they may bring some concerns into the limelight, which may provoke more caution on part of the medical system to be more careful when relaeasing new drugs. (I know not to do with the asbestos thing, but it's the same lawyers pushing people to sure for personal injury etc)
Mostly, I think they're just makin money.... can't blame them for that....
Class action lawyers can make millions of dollars suing large corporations. I think sometimes they dangle $ in people's faces and "nudge" them to sue. One of my customers is a personal injury attorney and I know he tells anyone and everyone they have a great case and can get lots of money if they sue. The one getting lots of money is him.
Although they are now allowed to advertise, to my mind the personal injury lawyers are jerks, preying on the the vulnerable, inciting panic where it's not warranted (at least not to the level they want you to believe).

Reminds me of the old joke: What the difference between a catfish and a lawyer? One is a scum-sucking bottom dweller, and the other is a fish.

This reminds me of a giant billboard I see every morning as I drive to work in downtown Detroit. All it says is:

1-800-I SUE BIG

Thats the Law Offices of Dewey, Cheatham and Howe
right????
Personally, I can't stand the personal injury attorneys who advertise on TV. There is one in particular here in town who I know for a fact has battered his own wife in the past. We had contact with her through the batered women's shelter where I used to work. What scum! Also, when my father was in a car accident, this same attorney was contacted by the parents of one of the kids who broadsided my father's car. They wanted to sue to get money for his broken leg. My father DIED as a result of his injuries! Talk about despicable! To this day, I still get angry when I see this shyster's ads on TV!
Deskwench, your stories are heartbreaking. You should let people in your town know about this rat. I loathe and despise the scumbag lawyers who will sue doctors over anything and everything (I've worked with doctors for over 20 years so I know how often this happens). And we end up paying for it in the form of higher insurance premiums! On the other hand, I have great respect for many lawyers (like defense attornies). I can't say they are all bad.

They wanted to sue you when their stupid kids killed your father?! *steam shoots out of her ears!*

They were trying the same **** when these two punk teens were drinking and driving and knocked my uncle off the road! He also died and they were trying to get him as well... thank goodness those two brats are behind bars!

Some people!
I'm glad the people responsible for your Uncle's death are paying for it. The 3 kids who ran into my father are still walking around..... They were chasing after a woman who had honked at them when she thought they were going to run into her. They ran through an intersection and got my Dad. It was a horrible time. My Mom was a very strong person but after my Dad was gone, things started going wrong with her health and she lasted only 2 years. I've always thought that car crash really killed two people. Sometimes I take Truman out to the cemetary with me to visit them. My Dad never knew him but I know he would have liked him (who wouldn't!) We always had dogs while I was growing up. My Mom always referred to Truman as her "grandpuppy." It's been hard without both of my parents as we were always a close family. I still have 2 brothers left and a wonderful husband, an aunt who is just 8 years older than me, step kids and grandkids so I consider myself lucky. Life goes on.....
Hi,

Oh my gosh did this post hit close to home. Before I start I want to express my condolences to Deskwench and Intergra. I'm so sorry to hear about the tragedies in your families and would find it hard to forgive those that caused you the pain. The families of those involved should have been begging you for forgiveness not trying to sue you Deskwench. I'm at a loss as to what was going on in their minds.

The reason this post hit close to home is I was exposed to a toxin a few years ago and ended up having very serious surgery as a result. I once arrived home and collapsed inexplicably and was rushed to the hospital. The news I recieved was very grim. I was told it was one of three things - all life threatening and each diagnosis was terifying. I ended up having a second operation and 2 surgeons cut across my lungs and I woke up to find myself hooked up to 4 machines. Unable to get up from the hospital bed and then later given the grim prognosis that I was only going to live aprox 3 months.

I recovered slowly and kept the diagnosis a secret which was hard to do as I was really fatiqued all the time. Shaggy never left my side - the great dog she was. More test revealed that the diagnosis was not as severe but it appeared had what looked like crushed glass all over my lungs and it was inoperable and they are unable to remove it.

I have to say that I didn't fall apart through it all keeping a positive outlook and mostly concerned about my children, especially the youngest whom was only 10 at the time. I kept thinking he's so young he still needs me. A wonderful thing happened too as a result - I belonged to a group of 5 , all of us had recieved horrible prognosis. A beautiful young mother with three young kids, a dedicated teacher whom worked on behalf of Amensty International, a father and husband, a famous radio announcer and myself. We'd send emails back and forth to each other mainly jokes and would get into the most wonderful conversations about life in general. In fact, the most memorable and open conversation I've ever had was with one of them. All of them died within the year. I got better.

In fact, I was then told my prognosis had been a bit harsh and not as serious as first thought. I had lost 60% of my lung capacity but those that know me well we often joke "Can you imagine if I had 100% how hyper I'd be?" As even with only 60% I don't breath heavy, take several long walks each day with various dogs, garden , do home reno's and everything else.

What was it from you may wonder? Turns out it was from baby powder! Yup believe it or not. When I was a professional clown I powdered my face with talc to hold the makeup on so that even if I brushed my face the makeup would not wear off. Canadian talcum powder contains silicone which when inhaled caused tiny glass like particles to coat the lungs. No wonder they had have warnings not to powder baby butts for the last couple years!!!

No I didn't sue but have mixed feelings regarding if companies should be held liable for damage their product causes. I wish I had known and who woulda thought powdering my face would have caused me life long repercusions? I only have troubles when I get a cold or flu which then limits my lung capacity a bit more and then I feel fatiqued - I still never considered suing as that's not my style. Still I do see both sides.
